2020, I bought the new Samsung S20 Ultra, the phone was so good that I was almost worshipping it. Display was amazing, smooth and everything. I didn't know there's more to that phone until I lost it. I went to one of the drug stores at shoprite and forgot it there. That was my mistake but the store attendant should have demanded a compensation and given me my phone which I would have gladly paid and even thank him. Instead he turned it off and tried to play me.
But the thing with Samsung is, you can easily track it even when it's off. Especially if you take the time to set up your Find My Device settings.
I decided to leave the guy alone but I couldn't afford to drag the matter for too long cos at the end of that month (March 29), Buhari decided to start lock down. Luckily they only locked down major cities so Ondo state was not included yet so I used my wife's phone to track mine (we use the same type of phones)
Lo and behold, I found my phone, called a few thugs in my street (Thank God I have been giving them money whenever I drive by so it was easy to ask for their assistance)
We went to the guy's house with the help of the tracking map and we met him at home, he started denying and claiming I'm intimidating him even after telling me he didn't see my phone. I told him we want to search his house, he said no, he started calling his neighbors and a few people gathered. Then under the tracking location, I saw "Ring"
It came to me that I can make the phone ring where ever it is. I didn't know it will work especially since I believe the phone is turned off but I pressed it anyway and just like that, I started hearing samsung default ring tone loud and clear in the room. He was trying to talk over it so we won't hear the sound but ofcourse it didn't work.
After we found the phone inside one of his bags, the boys that came with me gave him a few dirty slaps and some punches. I told them to leave him alone and we left. I gave the 3 of them 15k and that was the end of it. I later went to shoprite to report to the management and they invited him, when he saw me, he started begging but that didn't save him. I think he was fired cos I haven't seen him at the drug store, yes I still go to the drug store 😂

The guy is lucky his name and identity is not public knowledge.

He could be working somewhere now or doing business with someone, stealing, and will deny when caught.

3 weeks ago (3/5/2023) thief climb the fence of our house and jump into our compound, cut the window netting of each apartment and takes away 4 phones including my Oraimo 27,000mah power bank.
The next day we report the case at the police station, the police asked us to pay 30k for tracking of one of the phone (oppo A55) we paid immediately.
Today the police called that they have gotten a target, someone using the phone in a nearby town, just 35km to where we stay.
The police still charged us another 65k which is for mobilization and other things.
Please share your experience let's learn.

Quite true. More reason I advised he thread carefully. I used an independent tracker and not even the Police. The Police only came in at the tail end of it, when we were ready to apprehend the culprits.

I’m a serving policeman in Osun state command and I can boldly tell you tracking really exist because I’ve done it several time even interstate . I do phone IMEI tracking,phone number tracking and IMEI retrieval in case you lost the particulars of ur stolen phone but I’ll never request for payment till your tracking analysis is ready. If you are in good hands,you can pay for the tracking ones ur phone is located and also mobilization then all your expenses will be recovered for you from the suspect(s) if u want to settle amicably or suspect will be charged to court

Those agencies are authorized by NCC to do that...no individual has power to track phone or phone number. Phones like Tecno,Infinix,Itel are all inferior phones and are not trackable when lost because criminals use computer software to change the imei number of those phones making it impossible to track. That is why we always advocate you go for quality globally recognized phones like Samsung, OPPO, Xamio, Oneplus, Nokia, HTC, Asus, Google, etc those brands have a world class software that can't allow anyone temper with the imei. So don't blame police if you pay for them to track your inferior phones,they might not get it if it got to the hands of real phone criminals. I always give clients 10% chances of getting their lost inferior phones but if its superior phones,i give you 100% even if it takes the criminals 5years of cooling the phone (according to them) we must get them.

Rephrase your statement, the word 'Suspect' seem a big deal to me here. Was the phone traced to him? If it is established that he actually stole the phone,then he is nolonger a suspect but a thief.

Yes the person stole the phone and was tracked down and told to pay 350,000 after returning the phone to the owner for tracking fee or go to court

In 2016, my counsin's wife lost her phone when she came home for a wedding. They didn't have much time so they went back to base in Abuja leaving me to follow up with the tracker (not police) who was at Abuja. The tracker communicated with me and told me what to do. When he successfully tracked the phone, he told me to go to the nearest police station and make a report which I did. I was assigned an officer and the number of the person with the phone. The tracker kept calling a guy whom the guy with the stolen phone used the stolen phone to call. He called the guy to meet him for business at a certain location where I and the police officer were waiting. Lo, the guy came. We explained to him and he took us to the guy who was with the stolen phone and surprisingly, the guy was with the Camon phone.
Police arrested the guy ... The guy said he bought the phone for about 10k from a man. We picked the man too.
They were made to pay for all the expenses of the tracking and I am sure police milked them too before letting them go.

My advice is that you guys should thread carefully to be sure the police are not trying to make money from you. But if the thief is caught, he should be made to pay for all the expenses as well as the gadgets stolen from your compound.
