Vietnam has a cheap cost of living, even lower than Nigeria currently. A cheap but decent hotel can start from 200,000 VND (around 13,000 naira) in Ho Chi Minh City including internet.

Nigerian food (rice or swallow costs 80,000/100,000 VND (5,000/6000 naira). However, fastfood rice with chicken costs much less and if you want to eat their local roadside food, it costs even least of all.

Transportation is very cheap once you download Grab app & book motorbikes to wherever you want to go.

So, you can use the analysis above to make your estimate because lifestyle differs. However, a million naira should cover your basic expenses for a month (hotel, food & transportstion). If you need a Nigerian guide who will take you round, you can reach out to me.

The biggest challenge you will face in Vietnam is language barrier because most don’t speak English.

Getting a Vietnamese tourist visa has become difficult lately, particularly for Nigerians and other Africans. However, you can apply for it yourself online.

There is no guarantee on how long it will take for it to be granted. But if granted, you will be notified via your email & your dashboard on the immigration website.

Please ensure you’re going purposely for tourism or business, there is no other hustle opportunities in Vietnam except for professionals like teachers, and even teaching jobs are not easy to get now and you must have all the necessary qualifications. Being stranded in Vietnam is the worst thing that can happen to anyone.

What you said are 100% facts. However, unfortunately, some African teachers don’t do the right thing by engaging reputable TESOL institutes before coming, instead they use agents and try to hustle through. The institute I used for my TESOL also promised to provide job at the end of my training and they’re already on it. I will be traveling to Hanoi on Sunday to validate my papers because a language school there said I have to provide it so they can commence my WP processing.

It’s foolish to pay agent 2.5 million when that same amount can afford a one month training inclusive of accommodation and job placement.
