Someone gave me a large plot of land to farm. Apart from cassava, I have no experience with other crops. Some people have suggested vegetables, okro, maize, cucumber, tomato, pepper etc I also recently met someone into fish farming. He is seriously encouraged me to forget about planting and start fish farming. I really want your help guys. Which one should I go for? I want to sell some of my properties and raise like 250k to 300k. Please help |

Don't go into fish farming yet. Feed will be a huge problem for you. Plant cassava. That's the area of farming you know very well and it's really good. Maybe some time in the future you will start adding other things. Do what you know so you don't lose this initial capital. |

doggedfighter:The only way he can save that capital is convert it to dollars. Otherwise inflation will kill it. |

Op, plant plantains and/or pawpaw. They don't require much experience to grow, plus they yield fast too. Especially pawpaw. Pawpaw trees bear abundance of fruits in than a year. |

Versitee:What's your plan for irrigation? If you don't have , forget about planting anything this year (this is mid-Nov and rain is bidding farewell in the South already). Whatever you plant now will get burnt/dried up by Dec/January drought. You can start something by March/April next year. But if you hav irrigation set up, from the available options provided, okra is your best bet as a newbie. Tomato and cucumber are not for newbies. With the current price of fuel, Its not economical using irrigation for maize, cassava, pawpaw...but if you prefer any of them, you may hav to wait till next year when rain resumes. Shalom |

Versitee:Cassava. You need just 80,000 Naira or so for that land size. You can start cultivation by March next year |
