At independence, the basis of our economy was selling raw materials and sharing the revenue. Initially we started well by investing heavily in education....but then we deralied by offering things like electricity and fuel...at subsidised rates to 'help the poor'

Resource dependent nations cannot provide jobs for their people, because overimportation wrecks the domestic job market. As a result....there are no jobs and job creation is minimal (or it is useless government job like standing in the middle of the road to catch truck driver and getting killed...up APC ). So, millions of people japa. Because it is that, or nothing doing, or menial jobs that don;t earn enough for your needs.

Nigeria needs to change the basis of its economy , or we will continue to have stories like this.

a serious country that want to increase production will pay more subsidy. Removing it has crippled the economy. All production economy was built in subsidy like china that's why things are easy to make in China compared to Nigeria.

Also tackle security. Not unsecured country has ever achieved anything productive. None.

These are the major 2 things the govt needs to do now but is shying away.

Do you know how cheap things are here?, Yes you will have to work hard to get your money but even the salary can never be compared to the peanuts paid in Naija.
For those of you who think we go there to do as***o work, sorry is your case, I work with my hands and I'm proud of it.
If I had thought about the bad comments I hear about Libya maybe I would still be hustling for food to eat.

Why not? I'm a Christian and I live and work here, there is church here sef but I don't go because of police issues.
The reason Libyan authorities are against Nigerians is that most people don't have international passport and residence permit and that is why they go through the desert, but if you have money for your passport and residence permit and you have money for flight, you are good to go.
