I do not understand everyone's problem, including the useless lawyer who wrote this rubbish. Dele organized a press conference to stand by what he wrote in his book. Do you think Dele will ever beg Afe Babalola? He stated that he is ready to meet him in court, and the process has begun. What the heck is everyone's problem?

Is Afe Babalola a god who cannot be touched? Some people, including well-known lawyers, are clearly undermining our legal system. If Afe Babalola is one of them, he will be disgraced and go to his grave as a bull crap person unless he repents and makes restitution. And if Dele is wrong, let him dance to the music he played. So, what is everyone's problem with being the judge in this matter?
Guy I dey feel u, let the drama begin.

Is God not wonderful?

Speed Darlington, an Igbö man, is in prison. Igb0s are not speaking up for him.

Their Eze is in prison in Yoruba land. Igbòs are not speaking up for him.

A Yoruba man arrested by another Yoruba man for defamation.

Igbøs are all over. They are using clout-chasing to denigrate the Yorubas.

Now ask yourself why? The reason is in what the Yoruba man has said about them and what he has said about his own people.

A Yoruba man who talks down and denigrates his own people for the Igbós is a great asset to them, someone they can use to penetrate and divide the Yorubas.

For Igbōs to sing your praise, you have to first denigrate your ethnic group and praise the Igbōs.

They will see you as a potential tool to be used against your own people.(copied)
U know sense is far from u
How u will speak down a whole tribe because of some online miscreants who might not even be Igbo baffles me, and makes u no difference from them

He should come down from his high horse and apologize as he can't back his allegations with proofs
Leave him let him continue in his folly, all those hailing him now will not be there when the chips are finally down. As for his lawyer, that one allegedly defamed someone few days ago and quickly reached out to apologise keeping himself out of court, but speed darlington matter and this forotimis own he encourages them to be strong headed to their doom.
As I said few days ago, if you know anything about litigation, you will know a good lawyer is one that keeps you out of court ie one that settles your matter without it getting to court. This SAN just proved it with what he did for Dr Usoro.
Will forotimi eat the humble pie and make things right by apologising, begging, pulling down his book? If you ask me, na who I go ask?

Let Obidients and foolish people buying his book continue pushing him to prison. Anyone Obidients support always regret it. Go to court and prove what you wrote. No sentiments or protest can save him They would soon. Deny him like they did to Ojukwu and Ekpa

The argument that the Ekiti state laws retains defamation as a criminal offence has been debunked. That perhaps explains why fresh charges have been filed again at the Federal High Court (which is the competent court to have reviewed the matter).
Debunk by who. It's a criminal in Ekiti. You people will push these man to.prison

Uncle Dele really fvcked up. You don't have enough or tangible and clear evidences to fight the person of Afe Babalola in court on the defamatory case you blew out yourself.

Had it been Alafin Oyo, Iku babayeye still alive now, I would have love to usher uncle Dele to the palace to see the king and beg Baba Afe on your behalf, but......

I pray God help you because there's nothing obedient people or uncle Sowore can do on this hot soup you put yourself into.
Is Afe Babalola untouchable? Is he God? Why is the need to beg him? The matter is in the court already. If I were in Dele Farotimi's shoe, I'll rather go to prison than beg Afe Babalola. I know he will do such too. I believe everything Dele said about Afe. He is right. Afe is just one of the big corrupt lawyers we have in Nigeria especially the way they messed up the judiciary. Why do you think Buhari send DSS to arrest some of those judges in 2018? You people are just funny with your comments up here.

Yes you mean the reputation built-with Nigerian corrupt systems?

Why are you people so afraid to put the reputation on test if it's a reputation built in sincerity?

I know people from your region have a tradition in criminality and crime, so why shouldn't you support criminals?

Go out and ask the rest of the world about Tinubu your president?

Criminals everywhere.
Criminals everywhere indeed.
First of all , criminal defamation is a federal crime, a misdemeanor at that, and falls under federal jurisdiction.
There is nowhere in Ekiti criminal code that makes defamation a criminal matter.
Ironically , this is a shining example of the very corrupt and criminal judiciary that Mr Forotimi is writing about .

These issues arising are clear examples of how the Nigerian Legal System works alongside, police intervention. Pertinent questions need to be asked. First of all, did Farotimi conduct his press conference in Ekiti? Did he publish his book in Ekiti? Why did the police have to transfer him to Ekiti to prefer the charges in Ekiti? The answer is very obvious. It is a simple case of forum convenience. The complainant resides in Ekiti and is perceived to be using his influence to have Farotimi tried in Ekiti. Also, is this offence not bailable? Why has Farotimi been incarcerated since his arrest which is almost over a week now? It is only a bias individual that would not see anything wrong with the complainants actions and the judiciary.

Another issue is the case of Nemo Judex in causa sua. The allegations made were also against the judiciary and this is the same body that will try Farotimi. How can he expect to get justice? While at this stage, Mr. Farotimi benefits from the presumption of innocence, he should be released so he can have the time to mount a strong defence.

Is it the truth or fair to mankind that justice we all know is being procure or bought by the elites !??

Unfortunately, they all belong to the same cults and its the masses that are suffering from a cursed Nation !!!
If you believe in "justice" not jungle or mob justice, then you must also believe in evidence.
Dele has no shred of evidence other than his fictional narrative prowess.

Or should we just pack all the elites into a house and set it on fire to ensure "justice"?

Chai, so many ignorant posts.

The case is between the Federal Nigerian police vs Dele and not Ekiti state government vs Dele Rotimi.
What you call a misdemeanor actually carries up to 2 years imprisonment.
The complainant can in addition can sue for damages if he so wishes after the criminal case
is concluded, conviction or no conviction.

Even if there is a law in Ekiti that states that publishers of libelous article should be rewarded
with money, such a hypothetical law won't save Dele from federal crime prosecution.

Interesting narration of event that happened in the past and could become a precedent in this case of Dele Farotimi vs Afe Babalola and others.

I must admit that allegations against the judiciary is grave and sensitive because it has tendency to ridicule, damage and discredit the judiciary in Nigeria. You must have evidences to proove it. If you don't, I am so sorry. Little wonder that the judge remanded the lawyer in prison rather than grant bail immediately.

But like SAN Kenneth Ikonne suggested in this humorous and captivating article, Dele Farotimi may have a way out by "taking his words back", adopt humility and apologize.

I don't know if he would have to withdraw the books or revise the book for another round of sale.

Sorry but you obviously don't get not to talk more of agreeing with the writeup going by your follow up statements. I say this because going by this case Farotimi has nothing on Afe! Nothing! Just words of mouth that some of you want to elevate as Facts that won't stand the slightest test in the court of law!

This is real world, not Nairaland, not twitter or even a podcast!

You can't in a bid to seek justice, go down the route of illegality! Defamation won't produce justice and not even in this case! Corrupt jugdes must be brought to book but it won't be through some illegality!

Soyombo is one investigative journalist I have come to have deep respect for cos he painstakingly builds empirically verifiable evidence concerning a matter before coming out not all the likes of Dele who yes, are angry with the system, and truly, we all should be but emotions doesnt produce change!

I see Peter Obi and co going to dobale and it's the right approach I must say cos...hmm
