So what’s the complain now about net migration and where is the almost 1 million data coming from? Or is someone lying?

This is the argument I was making sometimes last year when all those bogus figures were being thrown around. I have always maintained that migration figures should be well segmented according to visa classes which is what you have just done here. All the hue and cry last year was about student visas and healthcare visas which were born out of valid needs. I said then that if we looked at skilled workers visas the numbers were much lower.

It’s obvious politicians chose the stats that will always favour a particular narrative now the conservatives have to show stats to prove to the public that they brought down figures while Labour have to show their own stats to prove that it was the Torries who increased net migration. Nonsense

Uk has never been that generous with skilled workers visas. It was the care and student visas borne of Brexit pressure that was used to score political cheap points last year.
Net migration is lagging data. The 1M (906,000) represents net migration in the year to June 2023. We'll have to wait for future ONS releases to see the impact of the measures introduced by the last government on net migration , although Home Office data indicates that there has been a sharp reduction in work and dependant visas.
Below graph shows monthly skilled and health care visas from 2022 to Nov 2024

I can’t answer o me myself am confused. May be those that got their visas approved can explain
The rule is still in place but remember it doesn't apply to NHS health and support workers. Only 2 occupation codes are banned from bringing dependants. NHS staff have a separate code and are allowed to add dependants to their application.

Also the Home Office is granting discretionary exemptions to applications involving children and approving dependant visas in these cases.

She only got one passport, and it's a weird colour of blue (not green)...... 😁💙
What's the difference between Kemi and Tiamiyu? It's looking like she lacks practical examples to back some of her statements and so resort to denigrating Nigeria to prove her points. She should stop bad-mouthing Nigeria.
Instead of specifying Nigeria when talking about negativities, why not just say developing nations or third world countries.

Imagine saying people from Northern Nigeria hates Israel citing Chibok school girls kidnapping and liking it to Hezbollah attack on Israel. So because one terror group kidnapped people, Northern Nigeria don hate Israel?

Oh, people may be fiddling the benefits system, but that's not what I was driving at. I'm focusing on the issue of health and care worker-led immigration.
I'm talking about the fact that Farage and co are able to bang on about high immigration and the government keeps playing into their hands. They need to defang Reform by actually doing something along the lines of: Here's an increase and improvement in pay and benefits for care workers, taking them up to NHS HCA levels, for instance. We'll take away the H&C visa for care workers for 6 months and watch and see if the already resident population picks up the slack. That sort of thing.

Otherwise, leaving Reform to keep making the running with this issue of immigration is going to sink Labour, while they continue to tinker around the edges. They can increase deportations of out-of-procedural options people as high as possible, but the public is not paying attention to that. They need to do something along the lines of when Sunak shamelessly came out to announce that they were whacking up IHS to pay NHS staff. Maybe they could have tied their non-walking people NI increase to that, for instance. Effectively you tell the people that managing immigration means everyone has to step up.
It’s all politics and no one or politician will ever come out to say the truth after all dependents of both students and care workers are no longer allowed, salary thresholds for skilled workers are sky high so what’s the next thing they want to cook up or cut again.

We are just dealing with lazy and intellectually bereft politicians who see nothing but immigration to latch on to rally up their base for votes and it won’t stop soon. Just like Trump who said today that the economy was not the major reason for his victory but the border. Already he’s already admitting that bringing down inflation will be difficult to do after all the grammar. phew

It happens with your first job, especially when starting towards the end of the tax year. Your pay has been estimated to be within your tax allowance.

This woman really is crazy. It's good that it's becoming clear to everyone though.

Imagine being so out of touch that you'd lump all of 'people from northern Nigeria' together, as being a haven for Boko Haram islamism. Apart from the sheer ethnic, religious and cultural variety in the North, the people up there have been the greatest victims of terrorism yet she's making it seem all of them are terrorists.

Also, I'm shocked that she's still thinking in terms of "ethnic enemies" as her reason for not wanting to be linked with Northerners. It's crazy. What about Scots, English, and the Irish? Wouldn't it be insane to hear Keir Starmer talk about how he considers the Irish his ethnic enemies because of The Troubles?

The interesting sub-theme though, is that it gives an indication of the depth of ethnic crisis in the country, that someone as educated and exposed as she is still thinks like that, especially despite how briefly she stayed in the country. You can imagine how it is for people who go through their entire lives in the country. It highlights the huge difficulty that Nigeria still faces as a result of the British colonial government's arbitrary map-drawing and constitution-writing (AKA "underlying issues"wink, which arguably still plays a huge role today in the country's political (and developmental) gridlock. But that's a discussion for another day.

This is the original interview for anyone who wants to read it: https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/i-will-die-protecting-this-country-kemi-badenoch-on-where-she-plans-to-take-the-tories (https://archive.is/Buggu), particularly for those who'll say they can't find a source for what she said, and for those who'll outright lie and declare emphatically that she has been misquoted without even checking the source themselves.

The phrase “over-promoted and under-qualified” springs to mind. If she were an ordinary individual making such remarks, she would be openly mocked. However, as the leader of the Opposition, she’s receiving attention and stirring reactions everywhere. I find it hard to envision her path to No. 10. She lacks widespread popularity, political acumen, and the ability to read a room (lunch breaks are for wimps and sandwich is not a real food). Let’s see how she expects the Conservative membership to secure the votes she needs. I, for one, can’t wait for this chapter to close and for her to be relegated to the dustbin of history.

If I remember correctly, the Tiamiyu fellow didn't denigrate or misrepresent Nigeria? Wasn't the real issue that he revealed the truth about 'Japa' ?

Not 'the truth'. His opinion and anecdotes, which were then generalized to cover Nigerian visa applicants as a bloc. Mind you - that's what he said on Twitter (or was it whatsapp and I saw screenshots - I can't remember) - that the BBC misrepresented him and cut his interview to paint a narrative.

The truth can only be gotten from official/credible statistics/evidence - do you have any? I remember you saying the other day that a self-reported survey with tens of thousands of respondents wasn't reliable as a source of data so I'm surprised you'd consider one person's anecdotes 'the truth.'

It's like if someone gave an interview that generalized about how British people going to Cambodia and other South-East Asian countries were largely going there for sex tourism (including child abuse), I'm sure that wouldn't be considered the truth just based on the interview, despite the multitude of anecdotes that support it, going back decades.

I have some refunds (about £1k) made to my credit card. If I withdraw it, will it be seen as withdrawal from credit card with it's associated effects?

Also how can I withdraw money from Amex?

Use PayPal, put Amex in the PayPal wallet and send the amount you want to another friend who uses PayPal. Then tell that friend after receiving it to send it to his or her bank account which is free of no charges then your friend in turn sends it to your bank account.

Or as an alternative just spend using your Amex account to use the money refunded

He spoke about student visas, not about all visas or all Nigerians, at least from his BBC interview in the article below.

Can you please point out which part of his comments is untrue? Annoying or blabbermouth doesn't equal false.

Hehe.. free matter.
These things comes in waves- life itself is repetitive. Just like high and low tide, you'd have periods of high and low immigration. We might be getting into a low-tide period which is not bad... make thise wey come recently chop small. All said, one fact remains constant- immigration to the West is based on need.

Was it the unsustainable number of Europeans that forced the self-harm called Brexit? When last was the care sector fully self-reliant? Eastern Europeans came to work here and returned yet people complained that they're using the pound to develop Poland. Now, Indians come and remain, complain still choke.

The fact is KS by his policies is more likely to reasonably rein in on longterm migration that NF. The later might show some wickedness but would ultimately cause more migration if he sticks to his economic promises. Personally, I want Reform in for this stuff to go full circle. I said a while back that the next few decades would be fun to watch. Even as hell bent as Japan was, they still had to smell the coffee.

P.S. I take exception with this unskilled migrant tag for care workers. The true cost of a care worker is not what they are paid but the opportunity cost of not having them here.
