I'm planning to relocate to PH next month, that is January 2025, to start life afresh. I'm confused about the best, most affordable place to stay. My major needs are security, electricity, nearness to town, and affordable housing. I would appreciate some input from PH residents here. Note: I am on a budget with 2m and intend to start up a business. I am 42 years So, where in PH would you suggest and why? |

Off odili Road.... Aeroplane Drive to be precised... It's largely safe due to many gated estate around there and police patrol : The power situation is good apart from when there is collapse of National grid and the fact they are on Band A... |

Sirchiboy:If nothing is in Port Harcourt if means nothing is in Nigeria you that? Outside Lagos which other cities can make you millionaire with zero connection to the ruling class in Nigeria? Your guess is good as mine That you failed doesn't mean Port Harcourt isn't a rip economic destination in Nigeria |

Ibtxxo:Is it 2m for house and properties or 2m to start up something when you arrive? Or 2m as both rent, properties, business and feeding make I understand? My friend from childhood that relocated to port harcourt 3months ago is currently crying , according to him said rents are fvcking expensive, self contained apartments are between 300 - 800k depending on the area, this according to him is largely due to availability of light 1bedroom apartments 800k -2m depending on areas also 2bed apartments 1.3m -2.5 And some greedy managing firms and landlords will ask for 2years payment. That’s for house alone Feeding is luxury in Nigeria currently now, then imagine what that place would look like 2m currently now is equivalent to 100k 7years ago Your 2m is just 400k in port harcourt if you ask me, just abort that thought right now to avoid asking yourself “What happened to the 2m I arrived with ? “ |

SmellingAnus:At the age of 42 he can't rent a place in off odili road and still start a business with 2m, I'll advice him to stay around choba and do business around uniport |
| Re: Planning To Relocate To PH , Advise Needed by richmond500: 11:14am On Dec 14, 2024 |
floss:This is not true. Self con is around 300-400k One bedroom is around 400-800k. But 2m in ph is too small. If ur rent is fully paid and ur room is already furnished, ur 2m will only last about 8-10months if u are on a budget. At 45 and u want to relocate to PH, u should be having at least 5m |

richmond500:Your suggestion is also good... But yes he can ... Off odili comprises of fimie/abuloma... He talked about light and security, to a great extent they have it there... A budget of 500k or less can start business in that axis... Off Odili road is not limited to aeroplane drive even though you will still get rent of 500 to 700k along that same drive cos my friend is a Landlord in one of the estates there.. Your suggestion is also not bad but with what he said he needs,, off Odili Road will be better when you have look at the ease with which you can move from there to within other parts of Port Harcourt unlike Choba that is on the outskirts of Port Harcourt... |

I have lived in PH City all my life. You can check out the rural PH places. Rent is somehow cheaper there, but the problem will be power. For example, a house in Rumukalagbor area can go for ₦300k for self con. I heard someone pay ₦600k for 2 rooms sef. Or you can go to Diobu. You can get a relatively cheap house there, but the problem will be security and power. That area can be very rough, but you'd be very close to the market. To be frank with you, your ₦2M will not last long here. I don't know how true, but I saw a stat once that PH is the most expensive city to live in (I don't think they counted FCT sha). Food and rent alone can remove a substantial part of your money. And you want to start a business. If I were to advise you, I'd tell you to move around Uniport (that's the Choba) area. Business will boom there because of the student population. But then that area is expensive sha. Very expensive. Bro... Why you wan move sef? Where are you coming from? |

Let me give my professional advice, go stay in place like igwuruta (1 bed room) you can get it 250/300k and it takes 600/800naira to enter main PH. You can get a shop for 150k/200k to sell items/tins needed in the locality. (Fast moving items are food stuff, okirika cloths first grade etc) You can also get a plot of land or two for lease, you can farm yam, casava, plantain etc on it. There land is very fatal. Please don't stay there and leave an extravagant life. The place is calm and secured too. Also try to always put a smiling face because porthacourt is the only place in Nigeria that favours you irrespective of ur tribe. |

Oga since your budget is small I will advise going to oyigbo to rent as a bedroom apartment is 150k. After a while you can move out from there when things are much better for you. Just start small to limit spending because tomorrow you go come say landlord don increase rent after 6 months. Our landlord just increased rent from 450k to 600k for 2 bedroom,we still pay sha because light dey constant. |

Ibtxxo:I lived in PH for many years as a young adult. With that budget you can go to Uzuoba or Rumuosi areas. These places have affordable housing and population for business. The power situation there is very okay now as I heard. Forget all the people here telling you Odili road etc. I was once a PH boy. There is no place I don't know there |
