It Doesn't Feel Like Christmas. by snowland(op): 11:46pm On Dec 22, 2024
This will be my first Christmas in Nigeria in 15 years but sincerely it does not feel like Christmas at all.
Besides the cold harmattan weather in the morning that normally characterizes this time of the year, nothing else smells festivities.
I remember with nostalgia what Christmas used to feel like. Seems a whole lot has changed.

Apart from the economic situations, what else could have caused this?

Welcome back Sir, both to Nigeria and Nairaland. It's been a while.
Insecurity and lawlessness in Nigeria has also contributed to the lackluster "celebrations" this year.

Well the social synergy has changed from physical to VIRTUAL. 15 years ago social media had a young presence and wasn't as dominant as it us today.
Major activities happens online nowadays rather than happening in physical gathering... This explains why Christmas vibes has a huge presence on social and networking sites than the streets nowadays...
Its all good and it's all fun

It's simply the economic situation and nothing more. There isn't much money available, so it can't feel very festive at the moment.

I'm apart from the economic situation I think it's because we are no more younger, once you've experienced some periods, there is a high tendency to not feel hyped like we used to..
.. Christmas is still special and the few days around it feels different

The shift in Christmas spirit could be due to urbanization, declining traditions, security concerns, and the influence of technology and globalization, which have changed how people celebrate. tongue

Additionally, personal nostalgia and evolving cultural practices may make current festivities feel less vibrant compared to the past. kiss

Alot has really changed all thanks to the economic hardship.
Growing up, my parents were not too rich but we always had new clothes and shoes for Christmas.

I entered market today to arrange one or two things for my children, after walking up and down negotiating from one seller to another, I just respected myself and came home.

It's well
