What's happening with the free train ride now? I heard there's a lot of irregularities. Our politicians are not the problem of this country. Na the ordinary Nigerian be the problem. Everything must involve corruption

Update: I tried to book a ride early this morning and even with the free seats, I can see "maximum 0 seats". Those guys at the backend are working with the other staff to sneak passengers in. They have set it in a way that one can't register. Nigerians are too corrupt. Even when the government does something good, the people would still use it to extort themselves. Chai! grin

I successfully booked the train ride from Lagos to Ibadan and also return tickets. While at the train station yesterday, 27th of December at mobolaji Johnson, I noticed the crowd wasn't as much as I expected. the process was actually very quick especially if you have booked online, you'll be attended to on the spot instead of joining any queue. highly commendable. as I wanted to use the elevator, I noticed one female staff came to meet me to ask for Christmas tips in form of cash. it was really disgusting but I just shunned her. I used the escalator instead. there was generally no rushing. people behaved in an orderly manner. many of the seats were even empty. I was in the business class. Mehn, the train ride was sweet. Fully air conditioned and the train is being maintained properly. security operatives were also on standby throughout. it took about 2hours 30mins. I disembarked at Obafemi Awolowo station in moniya. the cab people were charging madly for a trip to university of Ibadan. I later had to pay 800naira from the train station to UI where I then proceeded to the zoo. it was fun but the happiness wasn't complete cos there was no Lion there. On going back to Lagos, the station at moniya was overcrowded and people rushed into the train way ahead of time. a lot of people also occupied the seats of others in some coaches especially in the standard class. the policemen had to intervene. A lot of Nigerians are actually goats in human bodies. it was a nice ride as well and overall I can say the even when the free ride stops, I'll still be paying to get this great experience over and over again. if you still want to board the train, pls do and don't allow rumors from people discourage you. Pls book online 24hrs before and don't buy ticket from anyone at the station to avoid embarrassment. the ride is free pls don't encourage corruption that you have been complaining about.

The online tickets shows fees to be paid. Hope it doesn't matter?

it doesn't matter. all they'll do is scan the QR code on your ticket and you're good to go.

Rather than all these free trains or buses, why can't the Nigerian government give accessible business grants and employment opportunities to the masses? Our problem in Nigeria is poverty. We need money left and right, seriously.

Early this week news were going round that that the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared that all train travels in Nigeria will be free from the 21st of December to the 4th of January. So I said let me try it out. I created account in their website and booked the train. At first it wasn't successful because I chose standard class, later it went through when I booked the business class. All in all this is my experience.
Bro, I'm trying to pick a seat but i can't, please can you help me out?
1. Booking: Booking the tickets was hitch free. All you need is to create account at https://nrc.gsds.ng/login
Log in with your details. You need your BVN and phone number to book online. You can also book for friends and families once you have their BVN.

2. The Station: The train stations are still well maintained and many of the facilities are still in pretty good condition. However they are been underutilized. Maybe the NRC should let out some of the building at the stations to food vendors and shopping centres.

3. The Journey: The journey from Obafemi Awolowo Train Station to Ransome Kuti Station in Ebute Metta Lagos was fun. It took only 2 hours 30 minutes. I think the 30 minutes was for the stops at the stations along the way. The AC was chilly all through the journey and food is available for purchase in the train as no food is allowed to be brought on board.

4. Security: There is adequate provision for safety both at the train station and on the train. Nigerian Army personnel and NSDCD officials were all on ground.

5. The Vibes: The Vibes at the stations and on board the train was cool. The government should be commended for the free train as this is one of the benefits of being a citizen.

Lastly, the government should extend the train tracks to other parts of the country so that the dividend of good governance can be felt by all and sundry.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Please does anyone know how much they charge for carrying luggages?

are there extra charges for carrying maybe traveling bags or luggages or it's free?

my sister is going from Lagos to ibadan with her 2 kids and she wants to know the best, cheapest and stress-free route to follow (whether train or bus) because she has a lot of load to carry
