It is to call a meeting so you all can discuss it. Even with the cost of things, the increment is too much. Since you guys are old tenants you can discuss it and come to agreement on how much you are willing to pay. If he doesn't accept it, then you guys should find time and look for somewhere else.

Court how? Will they live there forever? If someone increases his rent or doesn't want you in his house, you quietly look for a cheaper or better place and move to. Why spend money, energy and time fighting in court? You can't live in someone's house when you've already taken them to court. The relationship is soiled.
Try to negotiate with the landlord if he refuses leave his property for him. Maybe he wants you out. People should stop being unnecessarily troublesome.

I remember telling someone here to build house before getting married if he had the means but he called me names. You were comfortable paying someone a million naira for 2bedroom flat and for once, it never occurred to you to start something no matter how small, even a mud house. Brother, plan to go village and don't waste your time in court. The court will only buy you time.

Guessing the landlord is not staying or not aware of things in the country.

Only those paying rent will understand.

I would say it's well ...but, how can it be well when a person is supposed to pay #3m rent per annum.

My advice: look for a cheaper apartment and use the balance to save up towards getting land

That's not an increase, it's a quit notice in disguise. An increase in rent wouldn't be more than 50% addition, which would still be negotiated but this one is chasing all of you out stylishly.

My advice is for you guys to use your free 6 months as permitted by law and move out of the house.
