Residents of Aleto and the Council Boss of Eleme LGA in Rivers State, Hon Brain Gokpa have blamed the Federal Government for its inability to complete the east-west road where an incident occurred which led to the drowning of an Expatiate on the Aleto bridge, for which the remains have been recovered.

A report indicate that the incident happened while the driver of the Hilux Vehicle was reportedly trying to escape from kidnappers who targeted the vehicle along the Eleme axis of the East-West Road.

The Aleto Bridge very close to the Refinery has since been physically distressed with fear of total collapse someday.

Despite the repeated calls for its repair, the Federal Government was yet to take any meaningful action.

The east road which runs across the Aleto Bridge is a critical route for several multinational companies operating in the area, but it has been neglected by the government, leading to countless losses of lives and property at various times preceeding today's incident.

Speaking on the incident, Chief Gokpa said, "This accident is avoidable. It is a direct result of the poor state of the road, which has been neglected by the federal government despite our repeated appeals".

Chief Gokpa also emphasised that the government's inaction is not only costing lives but also undermining the economic development of the region. "It is unacceptable that despite the presence of several multinational companies in the area, the government has failed to provide a safe and reliable road network," he said.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has also visited the scene.

The details of the Expatiate remains sketchy as at press time. But there is an unconfirmed report that the deceased was among the Expatiates brought in by Gov Sim Fubara to revamp the Songhai Farm project in the State.

So sad
That road is a death trap. Last year a vehicle still fell inside that river

Most FG roads are in such a bad state, but no trillions must be used to build coastal highway. A road that host the 2 of the most important companies in Nigeria is as bad as that. You can only wonder the level of insensitive government we have.

Mr. council boss,
If you go to a local government area called ado odo ota in Ogun State, next to the president's own backyard, where so many multinational companies are located, you will understand that bad roads across manufacturing zones are not limited to your local government.
Although government really need to prioritize the fixing and construction of new roads across economically viable zones nationwide and improve security. However, this is no easy task but it can be done.

This is sad.

They were not mentioned because curbing their activities is equally the responsibility of the Federal Government that budgets Trillions for security without any tangible results

The governor should pay more attention to improving the safety and quality of lives of residents in his State.
If that is a very strategic area challenged with criminal activities due to poor infrastructure, why not intervene, rather than waiting for FG?

Some people are yet to grasp the level Nigeria has sank into. ANd another set of people are trying to, for political reasons, intentionally play down on the situation of things.

it still boils down to failure of Federal government to secure Nigeria, which has led to high level of insecurity in virtually all states in Nigeria including the FCT.

Meanwhile, was there need to budget trillions to start an unnecessary coastal highway when existing federal roads are all dilapidated?

My driver told me about Ijebu-Ode - Shagamu expressway leading to Lagos, he said it's completely gone, that all vehicles coming from Lagos to Ibadan/Ore/Benin and those coming from Benin/Ore/Abuja to Lagos now use one worn out lane which leads to road users spending over 4 hours just on that road that is less than 10 km, yet Tinubu prefers to construct an unnecessary brand new coastal highway while you his online fans continue to cheer him to doom , its wellangry

If the government were doing well in terms of securing the lives and properties of the citizens, kidnapping won't be this bad in the country. Over time we have even seen escapees from kidnappers den, telling the media of how they think cops do partner with this kidnappers to carry out these crimes. You see roads blocks everywhere, all they do is to collect money. They won't search cars thoroughly, because these kidnappers aren't invisible. Their weapons aren't invisible, and I am sure they transport them from one place to another. So it's basically government faults, and they should take full responsibility

So the kidnappers have no fault at all?

As you said the government should take full responsibility, everyone now has a reason to be criminal, the government will just take the blame for it abi?

You can join the kidnapping gangs, when you're caught, just blame it on the government and walk away.
