I see a lot of contributions on this thread that border on entitlement mentality, and this is the problem of the young generation. A nephew that I support on school called me last year that he wanted to change his phone because all his friends in the polytechnic are using better phone. When I told him I don't have money to buy him a new phone, do you know his response? If he was my biological child would I respond that way? It's this same attitude I see this person display here. In this harsh economy your boss was kind enough to offer you some Christmas gift but you could not say thank you. That's a bad attitude. If you don't appreciate the favour men show to you, how would you appreciate what God does for you? Simple courtesy and home training demands that when you receive a favour from another person, you should show appreciation. Irrespective of your religion I believe it's important to show appreciation whenever you receive a favour. Gratitude opens many doors that would ordinarily be closed to you. I'm not talking about hero worship or flattery but simple "thank you for your kindness I appreciate the gesture". You lose nothing by showing appreciation. |

Some people always feel entitlement. Thank you sir/ma even is #5 the person gave you. To give is not an easy thing to do. The person did the right thing by firing the person. Meaning people keep learning in a hard way. |

englishmart:Lol. Proper home training should have taught him to say thank you. Even Federal Government does not pay 13th month salary in Nigeria. Just a 4 Naira text, adding "God bless you" in it for the boss would have saved him from all this. How much is a bag of rice, even if it's half cup? He should move on. If I fire you, I can't take you back because I would have taught carefully before taking that decision Woke generation!! |

'Unwritten benefits' ![]() Can only be a one-man business. Alpha and Omega mentality that's further strengthened by consistent and shameless butt-licking. |

Just that rice and oil alone na somebody salary if u no know. Nigerians are really ingrates. See supporters. So when ur mama give u food, u no dey talk thank you ma abi? Or your mama dey owe u food too? If na me, I go leave am work this January finish, then by month end I go pay everybody except him. If e complain, I go tell am say that 13th month salary na im January salary wey im collect in advance. Then im go know the real meaning of Thank you, no be me or twitter/nairaland go tell am. E get one security guard wey dey this thread wey dey talksay im no dey even greet im oga, na im duty im dey face. I be get one like you, na when e hook am for neck e come ask me for salary advance na im I remind am say for the past 7 months wey im don dey work here im never greet me nor Madam 1 or 2 even once. I tell am straight say I no get money make im wait till month end. The guy go beg Madam dem, dey roll for ground say im wife with belle no well at all and na hospital case, Madam 2 tell am to get out but Madam 1 give am the salary advance after serious begging. Na for CCTV I dey watch as im dey disgrace imself over common greeting. E bring im wife and new born baby come greet Madam, I no be dey around that time. Since that day, come see greeting, im go dey ask whether u sleep well for morning and whether traffic no disturb too much for evening. I sure say im wife don teach am sense. If you know wetin greeting and gratitude fit do for your life and how it has transformed people's lives, una no go dey talk dis nonsense. |

Some popular sayings about having a grateful heart: 1. "A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles." 2. "Gratitude turns what we have into enough." 3. "A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues." – Cicero 4. "When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears." – Tony Robbins 5. "Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life." – Melody Beattie 6. "A grateful heart sees many blessings." These sayings highlight the transformative power of gratitude in life. Hope the untrained kid has learned a vital lesson to help him in his journey through this increasingly competitive world. Wisdom is key. |

In my opinion this has nothing to do with àsslicking, some people are products of bad parenting. They find it very difficult to say..... Thank you I am sorry Please Etc. If you ain't ready to cope with the rules/regulations of where you work it's better you quit and do your own business than constituting nuisance.....Some people are just too proud and also got entitlement mentality. Even farmer wey dey work for he own farm person wey dey waka pass dey tell am well done. |

My former employer sits in his office only to receive thanks after salary payment. Everyone gets paid in cash by the manager and you go straight with the cash in your hands to thank the foolish man. |
| Re: Is This A Good Enough Reason To Fire An Employee? by Shikena(m): 1:25pm On Jan 15, 2025 |
I was trained to be grateful, at home, church and school, and I train my staff & all who look up to me to not only be grateful within but express gratitude. It drives positive energy and lifts every spirit. We express gratitude to our clients and customers even when we know it was business not favour. We express gratitude to the gatemen, housekeepers, clerks, project managers etc. Yet they are just doing their job. Every team member is encouraged to promote appreciation for even the smallest task including opening of gates. An ungrateful heart has no place in our business. Let him find his fellow entitlement mindset crowd and fellowship together while fully justifying their negativity together. lagonovo: |

Gratitude means a lot I mean a lot, even God wants us to thank him for his kindness over us. so, we need to be thankful for every gift gifted to us. Not showing gratitude to your boss for that kindness he had shown to you is nothing but act of rebel. And my boss used to say that if you box your boss you should be ready to bus your box. |

Amalekki:A key aspect of intelligence is understanding that employees don't owe their employer gratitude for bonuses or receiving their regular pay. Only truly discerning individuals recognize this. This perspective isn't tied to any specific environment but is particularly common among Nigerian employers. Try this abroad, and the company could face hefty fines or even risk bankruptcy from lawsuit settlements. |
