Bangladesh owes her citizenship by descent. Her father was born there and also lives there.

The reason they don't want to give her a passport and allow her entry is the very same reason the UK government does not want to allow her back.
Hahaha No, they don't. Nobody is disputing that. Not even the UK .

Only you on Nairaland.

Yes because nobody wants to associate with a terrorist, i'm wondering why you think its a good idea to have her back to the UK.
Because she is a UK citizen.
Because other countries have accepted their brides of ISIL. They haven't set off bombs or been involved in any criminal activity. 🤔

You're absolutely correct. My bad.

In that case have you thought about creating a government or change.org petition to bring her back? You would be able to explain to those outside of Nairaland why this is such a huge travesty of justice and why Brits should welcome and pay for her to come back.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/new

#funfact - did you know that in the UK, petitions are apparently the 2nd most effective way to drive policy change? Second only to voting, and it only takes a few minutes 😊

That conversation of building and getting Africa working that you all don’t want to have will one way or the other come to hunt us. “Let me mind my African business”
Civil conversations are welcome. I don't get the feeling anyone here is against having that conversation- certainly not me. Why not bring it up?

Many here are doing what they can to support the economy and initiatives back home

Zahra29:
The ready supply of immigrant labour has contributed to the low wages in the sector. Unfortunately too many foreign workers are settling for minimum wage and poor working conditions in exchange for a care visa, and too many care companies are getting a free pass even though they can afford to pay more.
Which is why I dont understand why the government continues to leave the care route open. If its closed and there's good shortage, employers and subsequently councils are forced to pay more, people would spend more weeks in hospital waiting for their care package, elderly folks may die alone without care e.t.c. all this would force wages up. Same can be said for even the NHS. If the government stopped taking foreign nurses, perhaps, the NHS would have since been forced to pay local ones 80-100k for starters. Foreign health and care workers are to blame for low wages in the sector

"Descending on the benefit system with vengeance" - lol, if there's anything left. Reeves is bringing in new cuts very soon, benefits are already very squeezed and it's only going to get worse. One has to be practically homeless (with young children) to qualify for a council home, and on a very low income/unemployed to qualify for universal credit or housing benefit.. Child benefit is capped at 2 children and starts to reduce if one parent earns more than £60k. Right to buy will soon be scrapped in all but name due to stricter requirements.
What other benefits are there?
Even the state pension is on shaky ground.
Na ne u dey ask?
Ask the millions on state benefits what they're claiming. As you said, the money don finish... so I wonder why the Torygraph is then worried about potential new entrants

Why would you want to liquidate your shares into your friend's (a lady) bank account? Your nor fear say she fit enter voicemail after the money hit the account? That should be your main worry and not what happens to her account.

I would advice sourcing for alternative fund option and when you get here, liquidate and settle the loan back home. I'm not a financial advisor do your due dilligence shaa cheesy

I don't understand. Could you please shed more light on this?

expensive007:
No. I don't have any UK bank account, because I'm still in Nigeria.
Most of it could be sorted by speaking to the brokers.

Were you resident in the UK before when you bought the shares? If you bought them via a Nigerian stockbroker/platform, then I doubt they'd be able/willing to pay it out to a third party in another country.

Are the brokers willing to liquidate your holdings and send it to a third party's account?

If you want to retain your £ purchasing power (as youre planning on a reasearch course), you could utilise a dom account

Hehe.. money good oo.

Someone is courting your wife in public, saying you're unfit to be a father. You response is 'we're still friends'?, 'I'm travelling to his house to mend fences'. I wonder how the conco would go. I wonder if Farage would be offered a sit in Musk’s presence. grin

Asked whether the two were still friends, Mr Farage told Sky News: “Of course we’re friends. He just says what he thinks at any moment in time. Look, he said lots of supportive things. He said one thing that wasn’t supportive. I mean, that’s just the way it is.” “ I am confident that whatever has been said we can mend. I really think we can. He said what he said… Of course I want his support, of course I will talk to him in America in a few days time, of course I want to mend any broken fences that might exist. I’m sure we can do it.”

it's difficult to unfriend the richest man in the world, it's what it is. Many out there are dying to be in Farage's shoes so bro need to behave or be sent packing

Just imagine if it was Rishi subjugating himself to Andani Brothers or if it was Kemi frolicking over Dangote. The likes of Farage and the general public would have been up in arms about unwanted interference. Now it's Elon... na siddon look we dey. When I look at the UK-U.S.relationship, it's not very far off from the way Elon and Farage ride.
All said, the reach of Elon is becoming dangerous. One person should not weild such power.

Struggling to hold onto Michelle? In what way?
That is a true power couple. They met in Harvard, both top notch lawyers .and even at obama's scarily good levels of public speaking, she is better than him.

That's a partnership. Bet Obama did not bat an eye when she said she wasn't going.

Thanks for the clarification. They insisted I have to use only account details with matching names with government IDs. I have a domiciliary account, but I actually wanted the money to remain in UK till I get there. However, as it stands now, I'm using my personal account.

PS: I have used her account to receive monies from some foreign remote gigs several times and she's a trusted well-to-do friend with a good image to protect.

Thanks for your insights!

They were not willing to transfer funds to 3rd party account. Moving forward, I will be using my personal account for the receipt!

Glad to hear that. Have you looked at other options like Wise and Grey accounts? Both are known evils but might come in handy if desperate to keep funds in the youkay. All the best to you.

I actually have both of them, but they are not functioning currently in Nigeria. Apart from that I lost some of my money with Grey sometimes in late 2023 & early 2024. I have accounts with some of these online banking system, GeegPay, Payoneer, etc., but Nigeria factor is affecting their activities.

Investengine is now offering 0% fee on SIPP accounts..... This offer is the best for people interested in opening exchange traded funds (etf) portfolios......

Remember, HMRC would pay you 25% on each contributions, into your SIPP account. You can claim more, if you're a high income earner (via your self assessment portal).....

Nice one. For the next tax year, I'm in search of a decent broker offering no fees and a switch bonus.

I recently made a payment to my SIPP and for once took the time out to properly read through Vanguards investor document. I have always sought out cheaper fees but it was shocking to see that over a 30year period, fees alone would have have shaved off almost 20% of my returns.
For reference, fund fee is 0.23% and Vanguards platform fee is 0.15% of the invested amount capped at £375 pa.

Infact, I'd likely ditch Vanguard and switch to a cheaper global fund.

Hehe... also have a few to sort- holes made while fitting blinds.
The thing never fill my eye but YouTube is quite good for these things. There should be a filler kit and small spray paint available at the likes of B&Q.

I have shutdown my moneyfarm portfolio and selling my positions in T212 & Webull.... Would move most of the funds to investengine SIPP (and go spend some of my portfolio growth in Nigeria next week)...... 😂🤣

I tried shutting down my Freetrade SIPP and move to IE (its about £120 per annum). But IE does not do individual stocks (would monitor position).... 😁
