The Landlord of the undeveloped land has a long way to go, provided the land is not developed. It will continue to be a dumping site until he developed it. Especially if the Land in question is located in areas that LAWMA does not operate.

Make all of una gather money hire lawyer to sue the landowner and the DPO of the police station where these officers are coming from. What arrant nonsense

@ OP .....where do you put your garbage? If the landlord/ housing complex doesn't provide enough bins for garbage then you should be reporting it to the authorities. The Police is wrong to haul in everybody .. and I don't see why you were willing to pay ...or participate in the clean up. What can you possibly be charged for if you don't? Never start what you don't want to continue. The land owner has just found a cheap clean up crew

Why are you surprised? This is the One Nigeria that most of you love and support. It is a hopeless and useless country where your police act unprofessionally and with impunity. In any civilized society, the police would investigate and find out who was involved in illegally dumping trash on the complainant's land. But as it's typical of a jungle that's Nigeria, it arrested every citizen on site.

So September last year 2024 he got an apartment and moved in. The place was lovely and bubbling until one night he heard knocks on the door.

He thought it was armed robbers, but it was police. They packed guys in the building, (3 storey building) to police station.

After all done and said, the issue is about an empty plot of land besides thier building.

The man that bought the land about a year ago has been harassing occupants of the lodge because they dump refuse on his land.

Now to be honest not everyone does that, but with instead of them to fish out who's guilty and make him pay, they pack all of them.

He has barely stayed 3 months there in his new apartment.

Just yesterday when he came back from Christmas travels he was told that police came again and packed few guys that were around because of same thing.

What's your suggestions please.
The guys in the house should organize a meeting and discuss among themselves how to stop that rubbish.
Same thing happened to my land, they turned the front to refuse ground,I wanted to involve police but I gave it a second thought. I don't want have issues with my future neighbors. I don't blame the man.

You guys should contribute and get a dual view standalone solar powered CCTV. It should be installed in such a way that a camera view will be covering the concerned area.

That way it will be easy to track the person dumping refuse.

People still dey look for food to eat you dey tell them to go install SOLAR POWERED CCTV NOT EVEN ORDINARY CCTV TO GO GUARD DIRTY. Or na so court case easy reach? U knw how much to hire lawyer? or the number of times they will have to be appearing in court just because of dirty? See, the best thing to do is to involve the landlord and the tenants. The tenants in collaboration with the landlord should dig a pit where tenants can throw their dirt. Once it is filled up you burnt them. Strict warning and eviction notice should be used as threat to whosoever is caught carrying out indiscriminate waste behaviour.

Why will people be dumping refuse in another person's land?

If I were the owner of the land I would also do the same thing so I don't blame him for the action he took

Impossible because people will come from far and wide. I remember earlier stages of hustle, one area close to my yard we normally go there to dispose our refuse dump. You see all caliber of people from different street, some will be doing drive by throwing. It was just a land that appeared not to be ready for development.

Your water is your responsibility, not the government not any other person.

Government did not send you to generate that waste.
Trash collection and waste management is the responsibility of the government. What are people supposed to do with their trash if there's no proper trash collection system put in place? They dispose it in undeveloped plots of land! Some burn the trash which is a form of environmental pollution. If the government cannot manage the trash collection, they should involve the private sector as is done in Lagos.

This is Paris France when garbage collectors went on strike just last year shortly before the Olympics. No sane government should make waste disposal the responsibility of the citizens

Your trash is your responsibility.

Think of how to dispose your trash before you generate it.

When looking for a house, why fo you look for one with toilet and soak away, why didn't you say it is government responsibility, or is your excreta not also classified as trash .

If government wants to make waste disposal Thier responsibility, it should not be billed and fall solely under social amenities.
Good luck with that.
What government should do , is open up recycling licenses and make indiscriminate trash disposal a criminal offence.

With this people will reduce waste generation and become far more environmental responsible.

Government should not do business with it's citizens and should reduce welfarism

If it would be easy. No one stands 24/7 in the land monitoring it.

Some people might sneak out when no one is watching to dump refuse there.

Besides apart from the lodge being big with many tenants, there are numerous other lodges closby so they too might be dumping refuse there.

Why won't he put CCTV camera on the land to grab the people red handed.

Why pack the whole lodge for crime of one or two. It's unfair.
The man na didirin now. He should have used the money he is dolling out to police to develop the land.

Public nuisance is a civil and not a criminal act and shouldn't be within the purview of police action. You all should come together and bring an action in court seeking restrictive and injunctive orders restraining the man acting by himself or through his agents from harassing you people. To restrain the police directly, you may join them in the suit. That way, the harassment will stop.

Yours was more laughable. Deploy the instrumentality of law to extricate yourself from police brutality. When the matter is in court, the landowner himself will seek a truce and a way out, by then the tenants will be on the driving seat and will be able to negotiate meaningfully

You can get cheap standalone solar power CCTV less than 100k. It will serve as security device for their compound while overlooking the space.

Do you think they walk out of police station without bailing themselves. Police will continue to cash out as long as they dump refuse there.

is there any post on the land with the inscription of “do not dump refuse”? If caught one will be fined? If not, it makes no sense!. Our security agencies are full of misplaced priorities that even vigilantes are better off than they are. Na wetin dem pay them to do be that? Lover of bribes

Ok let the government shutdown olusosun dumpsite and all the other dumpsites and make the people handle their wastes themselves. Let's see if you won't drown in grabage within the space of a week.

A society that leaves trash disposal as the responsibility of the people will be faced indiscriminate disposal of trash, as experienced in the op.

Are you saying Nigerians are lazy and irresponsible and can't handle Thier trash.
That's indicative.

Look we need to deviate from the old ways.

Government need to come up with sustainable policies, not feeding bottle policies

Maybe we need government to wipe our ass after excreting, so that we don't have people going around with SmellingAnus.
We need government to come and wash our plate after eating so that flies don't abound and cholera breaks out.

The right things is for government to make recycling policies and punish any offender.

How do you even fathom at this stage people coming out to throw trash into drains, and no one is giving them premium 2×2
