I NEED HELP... I posted a while back about my spouse's inability to get the open work permit the second time. However, on October 30th, I submitted another application for her and the (3) children. I decided to apply for a visit visa for the children (great mistake) and an open work permit for my wife. On December 30th, my children were all refused because they are of school age; therefore, they were supposed to apply for a study permit. Meanwhile, I have applied for a study permit for them in the previous applications. But my wife received her open work permit. Now this is where my problem is; I will be graduating this April and applying for PGWP. Can I apply for a work permit extension for my wife when applying for my PGWP? How do I navigate this? Has anyone been in this particular situation? Please, I need your help. NOTE: My study permit expires in September 2025.

kobobay:Once you have secured your PGWP and have a job offer, you can apply for WP extension for your spouse, her present WP will be valid till Sept 2025 I believe. Congratulations |

Bobomaigida:My concern now is, PGWP application takes time before it is approved. A friend waited for 7 months after applying to get his approval. |

kobobay:Start on time, ie apply for the PGWP once you have your completion letter. |

IRCC na wah oh, last time I checked you can still qualify if you have job in TEER 4 and 5 so I was surprised they were refusing peeps with TEER 4 and 5 NOC code. They already changed the standard but left it in the IRCC website to mislead people. Thank God they have come out open to make it plain. 1st: To qualify for SOWP, your spouse must have a top skill in TEER 0 or 1 Occupation....which is hard to get for students just graduating or the spouse must have TEER 2 or 3 Occupation that is in critical sectors like Natural and Applied Sciences, Construction, Healthcare, Sports, Natural Resources and Military sectors. These are professional jobs that are not easy to come by. (Student with IT/other non-critical sectors with Teer 2 to 3 Jobs cannot make their spouse qualify for SOWP. It's really crazy) 2nd: After achieving the above, the timeline on the PGWP must be 16 months in length for a spouse to apply for SOWP. (The truth is that most Spouse will take like 6months to a year to get these jobs after the graduation if you remove 3 yrs permit from that duration, the timeline on work permit is further reduced).

adesbaba:No, the SOWP is dependent on the SP, so the PA would have to start schooling first before spouse can start work, because the main reason for going to CAD is to study not work. |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Bobomaigida: 9:42pm On Jan 16, 2025 |
Jeboy:What I understand is that Natural and applied sciences covers IT related professions, but lets wait for them to release the list of occupations on the 21st to see the ones that are eligible. Also, I think the 2nd point relates to TFWP, not the PGWP. |

I pray so. By tomorrow this time, we should have it clarified all things been equal. https://www.cicnews.com/2025/01/ircc-to-implement-restrictions-on-family-open-work-permits-in-january-2025-0150500.html#gs.jvkme1 Bobomaigida: |

Only three NOC appeared to fall under IT under the SOWP qualifying job role via PGWP. 22220 Computer network and web technicians 22221 User support technicians 22222 Information systems testing technicians

If your job falls under Care or PSW, your NOC code is 33102 Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates and it's one of those that qualifies your spouse for SOWP. Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates assist nurses, hospital staff and physicians in the basic care of patients. They are employed in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted care facilities for the elderly and other health care establishments. Emergency medical care attendant are employed by private ambulance services, urgent care centers or other health facilities. Illustrative example(s) • health care aide • hospital attendant • long term care aide • nurse aide • nursing attendant • orderly • patient care aide • patient service associate • personal care attendant - medical • psychiatric aide • resident care aide - medical Inclusion(s) • emergency medical care attendant (non-paramedical) • emergency medical responder (non-paramedical) • first aid attendant • medical attendant - patient transfer The TEER 2 and 3 Job codes that qualifies a spouse for SOWP are attached below.

Does anyone know if It is possible to be on Open Work Permit and still hold a study permit at the same time? I intend to write a professional exam called CPA but I was informed I will need a study permit to write the exam. Jeboy Bobomaigida please help. |

Hello all. Please, what is a reasonable amount to show as proof of funds for SOWP for the spouse of a worker? The worker is on PGWP and has a good job with an okay salary. I can't seem to find POF information specific to temporary foreign workers. |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Jeboy(m): 3:34am On Jan 23, 2025 |
Let your spouse show proof of pay cheque (slip) and bank statement with like 10k CAD and you can show equivalent in naira or other currency to make 20k CAD total to be on the safe side. I think that should be good to go. Kainos22: |

The two visas contradict themselves. That means they don't consider CPA as a part time study. Try to get PR so it won't be required of you to have study permit. Most people that did CPA I know as immigrant did it towards the end of their study permit period ( the 1 to 3 month window period immediately after school) Shukusheka: |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Bobomaigida: 10:26am On Jan 23, 2025 |
Shukusheka:SP is needed for CPA, course is only allowed for in Canada applicants. most people just use their regular SP to run the programme. |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Shukusheka(m): 10:35am On Jan 23, 2025 |
Jeboy:Meaning with my already approved work permit while residing in Canada, my application for a study permit will be rejected by IRCC or my current work permit will be rescinded? Bro, it is really tough getting an accounting/finance analyst job in Canada without CPA oh. |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Shukusheka(m): 10:37am On Jan 23, 2025 |
Bobomaigida:So, invariably I can't hold a SP and a SOWP at the same time? |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Temas: 6:02pm On Jan 23, 2025 |
Shukusheka:You can have both permit... https://ircc.canada.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1618&top=15 |

Please help a brother. I'm confused and I don't know what to do right now. My children were refused study permits again based on insufficient funds. The total funds used for the application is $46500 for three kids. My wife cannot leave these kids. They have waited for so long for them to be left behind. It's frustrating. I'm just confused right now. Please what else can I do?

| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Bobomaigida: 3:16pm On Jan 24, 2025 |
kobobay:Sorry about the refusal, how were the funds raised? How many months statement did you submit? In whose accounts were the funds deposited also did you get the GCMS notes for the last application refused? |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by kobobay(m): 4:05pm On Jan 24, 2025 |
Bobomaigida:This is personal savings. The fund is in my account, and I used 4 months' history. I didn't request the last GCMS note because it clearly stated that the children are supposed to apply for a study permit instead of visiting. We didn't see this coming at all. |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by kobobay(m): 8:01pm On Jan 24, 2025 |
Bobomaigida:I used 4 months statement |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Bobomaigida: 10:17pm On Jan 24, 2025 |
kobobay:I think the issue is how the funds were raised in the account. Lump sum deposits and lack of documents to prove sources of income. |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by kobobay(m): 2:04am On Jan 25, 2025 |
Bobomaigida:Thank you so much. Can I apply as soon as I can provide those documents? How soon can I apply again? I used the IRCC portal, and it's difficult to compress files to 2m. Any help I can get, please. |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Believepls: 5:31am On Jan 25, 2025 |
kobobay:Hi, your kids stand a good chance of getting approval, since parents were already approved. You just need to convince the VO this time. -Include all documents you could use to convince a layman about your financials as stated by @Bobomaigida, -Include a letter of explanation to back this and show your emotions to some extent in this letter. -You could compress files using iLovePDF site. -You could use the secure account portal this time. This allows up to 4MB. -You can apply as soon as you’re able to achieve the stated above or any other tailored contributions from this forum to this case. Best wishes! |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Bobomaigida: 9:34am On Jan 25, 2025 |
kobobay:Why not apply through the GCkey as advised by @Believepls, also if you decide to still go with IRCC portal, you have to do so before 25th March as IRCC will be shutting it down. Get the documentary proofs and revamp your SOP as well. |
| Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by kobobay(m): 1:54pm On Jan 25, 2025 |
Bobomaigida:As I was going through the questionnaire on GCkey, I don't know how to answer this question since they all children. Are you applying for another family member? My oldest daughter is 10. When I said yes, they requested for family representative, use of family members form.
