Just to share this again on UKVI reaching out and the style they use, that can make people speak erroneously

I remember when putting out our application in November last year, I stated that we were not paying for accommodation, as I would be staying with my elder bro for some days and others with my uncle.

When were gisting on 24th December, 2024 in Essex he said he received a call with private number and the conversation goes thus

Caller with Private number: Hi, Are you expecting anyone in your house?
Response: No, I am not expecting any visitor. May I know who I am speaking with? (the person still did not talk)
Caller with Private number: Are you sure no one is coming?
Response: Coming from where and to do what?
Caller with Private number: Did you invite anyone to the UK?
Response: Yes, of course I did, my younger brother and his family. May I now know who I am speaking with?
Caller with Private number: This is a call from UKVI calling to confirm if you actually invited anyone and you are ready to host them, be the guarantor, to assure us they would not remain in the UK illegally after visa expiration
Response: He responded and told them many stories including what I do, my company profile and involvement with so top British Oil Companies, that with what I do, it would be silly of him to even attempt to remain illegal

Call ends and few days later, we got a mail from TLS to come pick up

The way they ask questions can make respondents loose guard.
My brother, he wanted to hang up, since the called ID was hidden

In this case of Nysckits, they may have told Providus a wrong name due to pronunciation and Providus may have said that the name is different and the balance in that person's account is not same as what they have given.

The issue should not be entirely on the Bank.

However, when applying, make sure any information you are stating is the fact and that anyone you drop their contacts, have communication with them, as UKVI may choose to call for confirmation.

Here's my simple advice. Go to the bank branch and print out the same statement (exact dates as submitted during your application), have it stamped and signed by the bank. And send a PAP to UKVI. Include both your online generated statement (the same one you used for your application. DON'T CHANGE IT), in addition to the one obtained at the branch. Hopefully an investigation will be launched and the ban lifted.

Nysckits:
I need urgent advice on what to do at this point.

I am a business owner doing well in Nigeria, but I have never traveled out of the country before.

I submitted my bank statement and other supporting documents to the UK embassy for a visit visa. It seems they contacted my bank (Providus) to verify my statement.

The statement was generated directly from my internet banking platform—it’s a heavy statement with a clear financial track record. Shortly after, my account officer reached out to ask if I had submitted my statement to the embassy, which I confirmed (as seen in the images below).

Despite this, I just received an email from the UK embassy informing me that I submitted a false document and have been banned for 10 years. I am completely in shock because my business account details are 100% accurate, and I have never falsified any document.

Providus Bank never reached out to me for clarification before responding to the UK embassy. My account officer is fully aware of my business, the legitimacy of my transactions, and my financial standing. However, she is extremely slow and does not act promptly.

I have never traveled outside Nigeria before, and I wasn’t even planning to stay long in the UK. My goal was simply to use my passport for the first time and keep my travel history open, knowing that I am financially capable of travelin.

@Jolene, @Davodyguy, and everyone in the house, what can I do to appeal or defend this 10-year ban?

I have already sent a strongly worded email to Providus Bank calling out their unprofessionalism, but I urgently need a solution to this problem. Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

Those UKV normally ask bank for the balance in the applicant account?

Dear All, please everyone, all of you with a proposed solution.

I am completely at a loss and don’t know what to do anymore.

After thorough investigation, I have discovered that the error was from the UK embassy. I was shown the exact statement sent to Providus Bank for verification, and here is what happened:

I submitted two business accounts (both with Providus Bank) and clearly explained the details of both in my Letter of Explanation (LOE). My main account has over 1,500 pages, while the sub-account has about 38 pages. Due to the large volume of pages, the UK embassy extracted only the first two pages of my main account statement (which included the correct heading, date range, available balance, and all relevant details). However, they mistakenly combined it with the last two pages of my sub-account, which has a significantly lower balance.

The embassy then sent this mismatched document to Providus Bank for verification along with other inquiries. Providus Bank responded accurately based on the information they received. However, the last two pages (from the sub-account) did not contain an account number or balance at the top—it was simply merged with the first two pages from the main account.

One of the key questions from the UK embassy was for Providus Bank to confirm the opening and closing balance of my account. Providus confirmed the opening balance but couldn’t verify the closing balance since it wasn’t from the same account, and they responded accordingly.

I HAVE ALL MY EVIDENCE, INCLUDING THE BANK STATEMENT THE UK EMBASSY SENT TO PROVIDUS BANK FOR CONFIRMATION. I am now stuck in a devastating situation due to an error I did not commit, and the worst part is that I have no way to reach out to the UK embassy for further clarification.

P.S.: I have reconfirmed the exact document I uploaded on the VFS portal, and I am 100% certain about its accuracy.

Please, I need urgent help.

Except you did not PDF each document and saved with different file names, they will never do what you just alleged that they take one document and add to another

I submitted 3 different accounts

1 company (separate file)
1 company (separate file)
1 savings personal (separate file)

All labelled separately in separate file names in 3 attachments in PDF, that they cant mix up

If you merged two accounts together in a single file, then you are to blame or the VFS/TLS that scanned for you.

It is your duty to package yourself very well

Sir, it is whoever is going through this that understands it better. You might be experienced but I know what I am talking about.

I attached an image showing how I uploaded my finance on vsf site and it's obvious my documents are independent and explicit enough.

Furthermore, I was at the bank to take this up and I was shown and sent the statement UK shared with them to verify the opening and closing balance. It was just a 4 page document with first two being the main account while the last two being the other account.

Don't forget one of my statement has more than 1,500 pages and the other has less than 40 pages or so.

They might have limitation to size of document and decided to pick just the first two pages as they have done and the last two since that's the most important for their verification process.

My God will help me and I pray it end well.
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by giselle237: 4:22pm On Jan 30, 2025
@nysckits why are you doing this?
Who said there is no way to reach the UK embassy?
Have you gotten the bank’s own written account of what happened on a document?
Also get same dates bank statements from the bank.
Attach it as well.
Get this and attach your own explanation and send in a complaint to the complaints and the public enquiries email.
It is them you should be talking to and not us on nairaland. We can not remove the 10 year ban. I suggest you face the needful at this time and leave nairaland alone.
You have received adequate pearls of wisdom from several people. Please and goodluck.

It is good you have confirmed what happened from the bank. Now that it appears to be a problem from UKVI, you can calm down and be certain the ban will be lifted.

Send an email to UKVI explaining what you have just told us. Tell them that the statement they sent to the bank for verification was disjointed. Provide the statements you submitted to them versus the statement they sent to the bank. Highlight the discrepancy.

Email them at complaints@homeoffice.gov.uk.

Keep us posted on the outcome.

If you are certain of this, gather all documents and file a Pre Action Protocol. You'll receive faster response than sending a normal complain.

Goodluck.

These UK visa officers can be weird people. The fact that applicants have to prove every single inflow, even if it's just a 2,000 Naira inflow from a transaction reversal is really so weird.

It’s time you face the UKVI, send them email.
If you have spare money, draft a letter and send to home office via DHL those ones control UKVI.
That’s what worked for me oooo. I’ll advise anyone to do it, your own case is even more serious, so take it seriously.
Give a detailed letter to every error they made, they are humans and they can reverse course.
Take your time and draft your emails and letters and send to them, you will surely get a response.
Compile both statements and attach it.

God be with you.

Thanks a lot for this. I’m a bit relief; though It’s a return ticket from Ireland to London to another country which I want to stay for some days before departing to naija from said country. I did multi-city booking and my UK visa is still very much valid.

Meanwhile, If they didn’t allow me to fly, I’d book another direct ticket to the country from the london airport because I have no other choice. But I hope everything works out to avoid unnecessary money wastage.

Thanks a lot.

You have to declare it, if you don’t and they cross check: you’ll get the 10 years ban for telling lies. No 2 ways about it. Better to be safe than sorry.
Pls next time don’t dabble into medical care whilst in the UK on a VISIT visa for free as it is majorly for the residents and tax payers. Emergency care upto staying in Accident and Emergency is what is free for visitors. Getting medicines etc is not a free service. I am sure you know this as per the guidelines.
Thanks so much Giselle.

It was my mom she was not feeling well so we had to attend, I am now confused why they opted for her to register. We will declare it.

So what do you reckon with my moving from employed the last time she applied and her 6months Visa to unemployed now. She has stopped her tailoring business in a big scale because of relocation and health condition. But as I just checked now the business is still active on CAC website. What do you think please, even if I maintained she was self employed.. is it a must she must present a business statement of account, alongIde her personal account? She is not sponsoring her but we are..

Please 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏... inputs.. please!!

Everything discussed here several times and people are warned about is what just played out here.

It's better for you not to apply at all, than applying on a faulty foundation.

1. You work and earn ₦300,000. You want to leave this job for a while 28 days to another person's country, without having enough, as you're being sponsored. This means your own income cannot sustain you for the 28 days but that of your sponsor

2. This same issue of large deposits came up. Can you all not always clean your accounts? If an account is tagged salary account, let only your salary drop and if anything else must drop, you have to explain.

3. Officer mentioned immigration history. Have you travelled out of Nigeria before? Have you also been refused entry to UK before?

Good morning. Sorry about the ban. If you are unable to overturn it, you will have to serve the ban and subsequent applications will be more difficult.

My thoughts on the issue:

1. If it is a private visit (and I see that it is), you really don't need to upload your business account. I think that was an error on your part. It is your personal statement of account they need to be honest. Most times, business accounts are just there to prove you have a successful business you are running.

2. 1,500 pages for statement of account is a lot. In fact, it is an overkill. If I were the visa officer, I will not bother to look at it. Less is more. That obviously caused some confusion. Much as you need to prove your financial standing, don't over do it. In an attempt to prove you have the money for a trip to the UK, you have now caused issues for yourself. Those people don't have the time to read a lot of documents. In fact, the fewer documents you have, the better for you. That is my philosophy and it has always worked for me (God being the ulimate helper). Keep statements as brief as possible. Cover letters as brief as possible. They do not have time (and most likely not interested) in reading voluminous documents. And that is why in their rush, they do make mistakes.

3. When you are a first time applicant, it is advisable to alert your bank and your company when you apply for a visa - they might call or email to make enquiries. In your case, you should have alerted your account officer and told her what you need her to do and say if and when the bank is contacted. Of cos, I don't expect the bank officials to lie but they should be aware of the sort of questions they might be asked and be ready with truthful answers that will favour you in the long run.

4. I don't mean to put down some banks but personally, I stick to well known and reputable banks - especially when applying for any kind of visa. Many of the visa people know banks that are reputable and most times don't bother to cross check your account statement from such banks as they know the banks will not be involved in any shady transactions. However, they are wary of most "tier 2 banks" and will most likely check out your statement - especially for a first time applicant. Not common with frequent travellers. Next time, use a tier one bank - a bank with foreign affliation if possible. I will refrain from mentioning names so it doesn't look like I'm promoting certain banks

5. You need to take this up as soon as possible. If you have the means and time, involve your lawyer. If you don't clear your name, you will have a tough time getting a visa from the UK in future.

Good Luck!
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Cashmadam:

This is distressing. Sorry about that. Unless you can show and prove that that document is in fact genuine, you have no chance.
If you do not get any respite in terms of insurmountable evidence from Providus then lawyer up and go back to Providus as unfortunately a 10 year ban is a life ban from UK except when you are applying for a spouse visa as a spouse to a British citizen or settled person in UK.
I know 2 people with 10 year ban that got UK visas. In fact, one of them relocated to the UK with the skilled worker visa. It is not a life ban.

Providus is one of the best banks in Nigeria as of today.

Top 7, you'll find Providus

I guess, just as you said, overkill and bulky documents may have been a factor

Thank you for sharing. Hopefully, it will help others.

These UK visa officers can be weird people. The fact that applicants have to prove every single inflow, even if it's just a 2,000 Naira inflow from a transaction reversal is really so weird.
It's unfortunate. It was not this bad in the past. First time travellers to the UK literarily write an exam to get a visa. It's sad really.

Good day everyone, I need help please. While trying to book for my appointment at VFS, I was taking to the payment portal to pay for logistic but it refused to load due to poor network I believe. My profile is showing "payment is pending"
But I noticed I have an appointment time and day. How can I pay for the waybill please and is this a problem?
