Nigerian farmers are the poorest with FG not partaking

no light
no water
bad roads
you'll need bribe police officers
and a lot of things

you'll wonder why food stuffs are costly

farmers in India are doing far better than farmers in nigeria

nigerian farmers are shitty , most are barely educated

Most farmers are naturally thrifty. They sit on millions but won't give anything away to suggest that. They are about one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

When I shut my mouth up was when I encountered a farmer who said he was going to harvest his 80 thousand tubers yam plantation. I opened my mouth in wild surprise. He shot a look at me and told me some farmers plant 250k tubers, some 150k tubers. This they do every planting cycle. Multiply the cost of an average sized tuber by 50k pieces and then you know how much these guys are raking in annually. The funny thing is that they're all very frugal in lifestyle.
if u can't even do commercial farming, Nigerians should be encouraged to do the basic one... Back then the beans, garri, yam wey we dey chop for house, na we plant and harvest am oh, despite my parents being civil servants, we still dey farm.... But now people shy away from anything farm work.... U go see land jst dey waste angry

In a space of a few months, less than 6 months, this is the 3rd person I'm meeting that got quite comfortable, within a short space from Agricultural and farming.
Leased a land, planted crops, harvested, made money.
It was fairly straightforward.
I know others, but these ones I know from very close, not too far, some I've known many years ago, now they now got better financially. Much much better
If you see a farmer complaining in recent years it's only on insecurity

Farmers been balling since Pbat era now

Agriculture is the way to go.

A tech bro must eat.
A Doctor must eat.
A lawyer must eat.
A pharmacist must eat.
An engineer must eat.

The beautiful thing about Agriculture in Nigeria now is that we set the price and you have no choice than to purchase it.

If you complain, we say "Tinubu Regime, Fuel Don Cost or Dollar don High" cheesy cheesy

Don't mention me to talk about the ripple effects. I am enjoying it 😀

I like when other professionals who the society applauds are begging me to sell my yams to them like their life depends on it (of course it does 😉).

All those things they do to me in the hospital when I need medication, I do it back to them. I even tell them to get out of they don't want to buy my goods. Lol

Like every other profession, we put in the work when it's time and reap the rewards with time.

Most of us have gone into warehousing, storage and hoarding.
See the nonsense you saying..... Hoarding and trying to out price yourself and you proud.... It's low people like you society should target because you part of the cancer

You are right. That's the basic training and orientation you get while on internship.

You must not show off your wealth, regardless of the situation. You must be "down to earth so the earth will always bless you with bountiful harvest".

There is also a security reason for that. Remember, even as we make millions, we also put it back into the business and save some for unforeseen circumstances which will definitely happen. Situations such as kidnapping of farm staff, destruction of crops by herders, altercations and disputes with locals, chief settlements etc.

Also remember that we work closely with the locals and If you don't behave like them, they will hurt you.

Agriculture is the only sure investment that can give you back 100% ROI if done correctly and you put in the best practises.

They have sent them for propaganda. I'm not saying don't farm but don't let this propagandist push you into something you are not prepared for
lipsrsealed When a thread is going one side, you will know that they have been sent.

If you want to go to into farming, make your research very well, I know someone who is farming that has made losses, he even studied agriculture at the university.

Insecurity is the biggest challenge, the second challenge is lack of education in financial management. Do your due diligence before venturing into something that might drain all your resources because of paid influencers on nairaland.

Even in Benue that produces yam.... I have met more farmers that farm for self consumption.... We made order couple of weeks ago.... The transport cost alone to Lagos nearly eroded protected margins.... Now if we reject the yam... What other markets can the Farmer go to.... All these senseless topics
Move your produce in bulk. Connect with other farmers who are plying same route and enjoy discount on logistics.

I know this is a major problem but we use empty cement trucks. It's like crowdfunding

I won't dignify you with a response again. You sound like you are going through a lot.

Indeed, farmers go through a lot. But yours will need medical attention.

You are depressed 😔

Nope son.... I am actively planning to crash the price of yam.... And I know it's only a matter of time.... Na why hoarders and price fixers disgust me

As if they direct farmers sell at that average cost per tuber!
Sometimes, selling them is even a problem
Na so una dey calculate wrongly to mislead people.
I was once as doubtful and hesitant as you. I'm not also saying this to impress you. Some of these big farmers own trailer trucks that convey their produce and no longer use middlemen. They hoard and sell during scarcity at a premium. Ask yourself why virtually all retired military officers from the north are into large scale farming.

Face of farming has changed o. Foreigners from west end central Africa now come in to buy grains from the north.

Forget all these nonsense talk.... What crop are they planting??

I have meet many hausas that are farmers that left because of insecurities.... Met many middle belt people who left because of insecurities.... And all have in common is that timing of rain is essentially for certain crops.... Now I ask myself how many hecters of land do this so called rich folks harvest..... What is the demand and supply equation... Don't just put lazy topics and think everyone is gullible....
My gate man came from southern kaduna when I was still in naija and from a family of farmers.
Forget propaganda.

What they experience everyday is shocking.
You will plant acres of corn, when the corn has reached a certain maturity, you sell it to a fulani man or a farmer who dine with the authority. And they sell is really cheap. If you refuse, one day, fulani and their cattle will feast on it and you dare not say a word.
Every month, farmers pay levies.
They will flog you in front of police and nothing happens.

Most of them abandoned their lands and ran. The abandoned lands are taken over by the fulani.

It is hell on earth up there.
And you will never see this on the news.
Talk and they will set your entire generation on fire.
Believe this @op at your own risk.

We still doing tht.... But EU standards are very high.... And don't forget you competing with others.... Indians now actively do garri and sell to Europe but we don't know this.... Their standard is of processing have higher acceptance rate.... Maybe due to better due diligence

This is the point am trying to make.... There are many moving parts that make the whole farming is lucrative talk bullshyyytte.... So it's best you do you own small one for self sustanance.... I know a lady in a estate in lagos.... She lives at the very end of the estate.... She does fish farming.... Mostly for small customer base such as restaurants and hotels and self consumption.... She does her own fish feed

Original propaganda at work, a lot of spoken theory, take your Yams to the market and see if you will sell one without the market union calling the shots.

at 500 naira per tuber that is a whooping 250M per year.lets now use assume he use 50M for the cultivation and land tilling. He still got 200M to keep.

Tell them this too.

Few want to go under the sun to make money
