For me, I think she has done what’s expected of her, they just want to take it up from there and further build on her narratives so in case they meet any brick wall they have a reference they can fall back to justify whatever. My opinion!

I totally agree with you. I can’t but feel sorry for her 🥲 when she was thinking she had arrived.

Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by TV01(m):
Mixed feelings about our Kem.

Starting from the desirability of her actually leading the conservatives and potentially the country. She wasn’t an anchor-baby and isn’t technically an immigrant, but that sense of her being here as a result of gaming the system won’t go away.

I think anyone with a homeland of their own would question this. But, she is married to a native, and if Sonia Ghandi could do it why not? Many also seem to think her point of origin makes her taking a hard stance on immigration somewhat hypocritical – although I don’t agree. Her positions should be for the best interests of GB, regardless

Strategically, I think she ran for leader too early in her career and at a bad time given her party’s recent history. She has 14 years of non-delivery to explain – for a government she served in. I suspect she’ll serve to bolster the Tories DEI credentials, take a few hit’s for the team, provide cover on some big issues (repatriations etc.), and then be forced out for someone Jenrick or Jenrick–like to take over. Where's Bojo these days grin.

Four year is a long time in opposition from her starting position as leader. Her task is to rise above a few false-starts, deal with internal questions about her leadership style, put forward some cogent, hard-hitting policies and grow into a more statesman-like figure (the whole Nigerian brouhaha, for example should have been avoided). All this whilst trying to sound more Reform-like than Reform, who are making a charge from lane 8 like Sha ‘Carri. A huge ask.

In another sense, I don’t see her as any different from the vast crop of politicians we have now. Very little political nous or real character. Mostly shallow with a jobsworth style of governance.

Great post!
I don’t think the question of if she will be deposed as leader before the next GE but probably when? My bets are after the local elections in May. Tory backbenchers should have enough to nail her by then. Last round of the leadership contest was almost a 3-way split, so she had about 2/3rds of them vote against her from the get go. Add that to her “false-starts”, Tories tanking in the polls and her inability to land a punch at PMQs….Game Over!

Fair enough. I don’t agree with your definition fully, but it’s six vs half a dozen anyway.

Fair call. And not one I'd gainsay. I don't follow closely enough to picture what's happening at the grassroots. Unless she performs really poorly, drops an absolute howler or, something dark comes out, they may stick with her for a while yet. Other aspirants will face a number of the same hurdles and pitfalls.

Giving a strong performance with an opposition brief, making the right noises on policy and then looking to strike about 2 years in from the next election (after which a further leadership change would be somewhat dicey), would make sense. We'll see. It may all be obviated by Reform continuing to make ground. I think Labour will be in a worse state then than the Tories were after their last stint.

It wasn't my definition, it's as defined. Qualifying with the term "isn't technically", was to give leave to nuance and the perception of her particular situation. Hope that's clear.

Pressurising yourself that you have to pass is a recipe for failure. First question is have you done enough lessons? Has your driving instructor confirm that you are ready? If Yes to the above, try to visit the test centre with your driving instructor to get familiar with the driving route. Then afterward relax. If the first two questions are NO then you are in for a failure my friend 😌

God bless you madam Zahra, I’ve identified a job code that matches my business.
I don’t know how to prove I don’t work more than 20 hours but I should be able to defend it if it comes up especially as I haven’t breached or worked less than my contracted hours.
Thank you.
You're welcome

Sounds like you're good 👍
I suggest keeping a simple diary/log of your weekly business hours and corresponding activities. It'll help you ensure that you keep within the 20 hours and serve as detailed evidence if requested by the Home Office.

Agreed. The Tories have already priced in a blistering performance in the local elections so it won't be a surprise to anyone, unlike Labour who are bricking it that they will have a very poor showing so soon after an electoral landslide.

Kemi won't lead them into the next GE but I agree they will stick with her for a while longer - perhaps another year. Which I daresay she'll be pleased with: she'd have outlasted Truss by a wide margin and done as/almost as much time as Theresa May, so retiring on her cushy benefits as former Tory leader will be pretty good innings. And they'll replace her with someone like Jenrick or Philp, both of whom will make Kemi sound rather moderate and immigration friendly.
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Thewritingnerd(f): 9:24pm On Feb 15, 2025
Hmm.
Goodenoch:
Funny thing though is that she has the best odds of winning. If I were a betting man I'd be betting on her to be the next leader but never actually become the prime minister. The conservative establishment know it would be great to have her be the mouthpiece of al the Farage-esque things they'd like to say to appeal to the Reform/Right-wing conservative crowd but can't, whereas she can do so freely (for obvious reasons) and is clearly willing to do so nonstop. It doesn't really matter anyway because they don't have a shot of actually winning the next election and likely the one after that. By the time there's a reasonable chance of them winning an election, she'll have been replaced as party leader by someone much more palatable to the base.

Who would have thought an immigrants with a knack for culture wars was only demarketing herself.

Thankfully she indentifies as a "strongly integrated british" citizen.

If I ever want to vote a hard right, I will simply vote reform. Why would people vote a reform-wannabe, when reform is there.

Hehe...

The issue here is why would the average right-leaning Brit vote for Kemi over Nigel?

We already know the current Labour government would have a stronger 'grasp' on migration than Boris et al had. So she can't really campaign on cutting migration given that Labour would be quick to remind her of their last result. Starmer also appears calculated and is unlikely to have too many slip-ups (usual caveats).

She's tried to build trust among traditional Tory voters by giving vibes of 'I'm not like these other migrants' which as expected, hasn't stuck. Doesn't help that her way of reminding folks of her Nigerian roots has been by demarketing the nation (and herself in reverse).
Her anchor baby situation would always be in the news especially with Trump seeking to end birthright citizenship. Nigel would soon be quick to remind her that her much castigated carers would contribute far more to the British society by the time they are citizens than many anchor freeloaders like her did.

I wish her the best.

Tick Tock…. KB’s running on borrowed time.
I can only imagine how Nigerians would rejoice when she’s no longer leader of the opposition….even more than they did Abacha’s death 😂

Hello everyone, a friend is in urgent need of advice. He claimed asylum in the UK in 2023. Last year, he met a Nigerian-American, and they have been making wedding plans in the UK. Vendors have been paid, and deposits have been made for the wedding venue. Invitations have gone out as well. Please note that this is a genuine marriage. He proposed to her in October last year.

However, in January this year, his asylum application was refused and deemed unfounded, with no right to appeal. His wedding is scheduled for August, and he is feeling very confused. Has anyone ever experienced a similar situation? What options does he have so they can go ahead with their wedding as planned? They plan to relocate to the US afterwards. Please help.

The marriage would not take place, the relocation on present circumstances, would also not take place.....

I hope funds already paid, can be refunded(although I wouldn't hold my breath)...

Way forward..... Head back to Nigeria, conduct ceremony in Nigeria, then she files for him, from America.... This is the only solution my church mind thinks is the only pathway ..... ⛪😊

It's simple, he should go to Nigeria and marry her there. She will file for him.

That will put a heavy question mark on the failed asylum application. I guess he applied for asylum because his life is in danger in Nigeria, so going back to the same country means that the asylum application was fraudulent
