Not a biggie Even if dem no teach them Phonetics, girls dey always adjust their tongues in their 20's to sound foreign That aside, I listen to EPL managers post match conference(Amorim,Iraola,Emery and Arteta), and i noticed native English speakers have no issue with other people's accent and that they dont make fun of it |

This will make front page. Surely. Make I post here first. Ehen, we’re here. I don’t see a problem. Bored Nairaland kids surely will. They don’t have anything going on in their lives. If they saw a Chinese school teaching children Yoruba in the proper accent, they would clap and type praises for a fortnight. |

EmperorCaesar:I will tell you for free; they do. Those ones are paid so have to be professional. The average English speaker will tune out if they don’t understand your first three words. |

The easiest way for students to master a foreign accent is to employ a teacher that has that accent. If the students are young enough, they will effortlessly pick up the accent. I went to an international school. We had many Nigerian students who stopped studying in England when their parents could no longer afford paying their school fees. A few came back with a snooty British accent. It was from them i naturally mastered the accent. I also mastered the Indian accent as my home economics teacher was Indian. Lest I forget, you must be of the age where easily mastering accents come to you. I regret not mastering the calabar accent. My biggest regret till date. |

Why not Spanish, German, french or latin. Because I know opportunity can come from anywhere. Most of the people from the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria teach their children their dialects, correct me if I'm wrong but yes see, South south, or even people from middle east and other minority groups they hardly teach their kids their dialect. They will just be speaking English, I used to tell my students "English in school, at home tell your parents no English! Just speak your language to me". |

ednut1:Lol. You think so? To be honest, some of these private schools here are doing a great job. Their school fees may be very high, but the value shows. Remember Faith Odunsi? The young girl dubbed the 'Mathematical Machine' and named the youngest math champion? Check—she is a product of a private school in Ota, Ogun State. You should hear how she speaks too. I don’t think anyone would laugh at her… After representing Nigeria at the Global Mathematics Competition, defeating China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and others to become the world’s best mathematics student, she has earned respect. She will always be respected, no matter how she speaks or where she is in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeO9GjpfB-8 |

It's when you leave Naija that you know how much we don't rate our own at all. When you listen to some native accents in the UK, even other UK citizens don't understand themselves, but they largely understand our well spoken "African" accent, yet we are in Nigeria teaching a narrow accent. Please stop that already! |

The worst among tribe is Yoruba, several children can't speak Yoruba language again, let alone inculcate Yoruba culture into the blood of their kids. We always do our thing beyond normal in this country. |
