Quite impressive. Lovely.

Learning accents doesn't make you inferior. It doesn't mean those kids won't be able to speak pidgin too if they want to. I am talking from experience.

Bless ya!

Ye ye Netizens, what is wrong here. Aren't we all happy when our kids speaks English through the nose. Go to all these American and British schools in Lagos and Abuja were school fees is in dollars. They teach them this.

i no so. If an igbo man who wasn’t born in yoruba land speaks Yoruba you can tell from his accent. Same with a yoruba person born in uk and speaking yoruba you cant tell also
You have a point, bro👍 but when you, as an Igbo man, speak Yoruba, your intention, aim, or joy is to be able to speak exactly like a Yoruba man. You wish to speak Yoruba in such a way that anyone who hears you will praise you for speaking it so well or even for trying to sound like a Yoruba person. No one will mock you; instead, they will be happy to see you speaking it. And since we adopt the language in the first place, trying to sound like the people we learn it from shouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Or should we just stick to speaking our local dialects and forget English? What do you think? 😁😁😁😁

There’s nothing wrong with teaching diction, but these children aren’t speaking with any recognisable accent. They’re just using their tongue to mash it.

Some decades ago we used to have professional broadcasters who spoke good Nigerian English without pretence. Don’t know what is happening now o

Viral Video of a Nigerian School Where Students Are Taught to Speak in a Foreign Accent.

A school in Nigeria has gone viral across several social media platforms due to its unique approach to language learning. In this school, students are specifically trained to speak in a foreign accent, which differs from the typical Nigerian way of speaking.

The video has sparked mixed reactions, with some people criticizing the practice, arguing that it may not be beneficial, while others see it as an interesting approach to education.

Watch the video and share your thoughts in the comments. Do you think this practice is problematic, or should it be encouraged?

I will tell you for free; they do. Those ones are paid so have to be professional. The average English speaker will tune out if they don’t understand your first three words.
I have told them here in UK severally that their accent is not audible

This is not unusual... It's called phonics
No dey lie!🙄🙄🙄

They are teaching the kids to speak with a foreign accent, a skill which will come in useful since as things remain in Nigeria a vast majority of them will eventually have to JAPA to find a good life for themselves. And before you claim that having a thick Nigerian accent abroad is OK, I advise to you realize that the vast majority of misunderstandings that people experience abroad have to do with the difficulty in communicating clearly to those around them. undecided

Sounds good in Nigeria ... but when abroad ...locals know off the bat you're faking it. It is the reason many celebrities speak in a " foreign accent" when home ... but drop it when abroad... people be looking at them sideways. Eg...one with "American accent" in the US. People in the South speak differently from those in the North and it is even further broken down locally....then here comes Mr American speaking all together. Imagine an American going to Nigeria with his Nigerian accent .... he starts to speak to you with a Hausa accent then drops the Yoruba accent and finishes off the sentence with Igbo accent..... would you really be listening to what he has to say?....or be saying to yourself who be this confused one? Mixed up priorities.
The only celebrity I have seen with a bona fide British accent is Burna boy. He can on it and off it on demand, as rough as he looks 😂 the rest of them are just pretending.

➜Why not Spanish, German, french or latin.
➜Because I know opportunity can come from anywhere. Most of the people from the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria teach their children their dialects, correct me if I'm wrong but yes see, South south, or even people from middle east and other minority groups they hardly teach their kids their dialect. They will just be speaking English, I used to tell my students "English in school, at home tell your parents no English! Just speak your language to me".
Let's stop telling this lie already! English remains the most economically viable language out there and works wherever you find yourself in this world we live in. Even in China, Russia, Japan, etc. Their students learn English as a second language. undecided
