A lawyer would never write like that or bash the profession in that manner. He mentioned RPC. Ask him what that means without looking it up on Google.
But we all know lawyers who are barely surviving...
Just as we all know millionaire/billionaire lawyers

*"RPC" stands for "Rules of Professional Conduct,"

Of course. There are people like that in every profession, so I don't understand the fuss about creating a thread on why most Nigerian lawyers are broke.

Okay. Good to know you're aware of the RPC.

Not true. There are no broke doctors, or even pharmacists or nurses for that matter. Not to the extent of real broke as some lawyers

To most nigerians, 200k is great money.

This explains the reasoning. I can't blame them too, most nigerians don't earn more than 150k/month till they die.

Re: Why Most Nigerian Lawyers Are Broke by gforce5: 4:03pm On Feb 21, 2025
There are several reasons why most Nigerian Lawyers are poor. 1. Lower purchasing power of clients due to the economy. The dire state of Nigeria's economy has negative impact on the purchasing power of the mass. As such, many people cannot afford the services of lawyers. 2. Due to the fact that majority of Nigerians are poor, only a small percentage of the population can afford the services of lawyers. As a result, most lawyers are competing for the patronage of that small clientele. 3. The big firms have a grip on the legal market. Most of the bigger established law firms and very senior lawyers have secured the services of that small rich clientele. As such, many young lawyers have lost out.
4. Inequality in the profession. There's a huge disparity in the earning power of lawyers due to factors such as location, the size of the law firm they are working for, the area of practice (commercial lawyers make more money than human rights/criminal lawyers) and social class. 5. The issue of social class. Social class is a big issue in the legal profession in Nigeria. A lawyer from a privileged background has a higher chance of success compared to a lawyer from a poor family. I will stop here as there too many factors to consider.

I know many doctors. All pressed for time but none is broke. I know broke lawyers who are not pressed for time at all
Re: Why Most Nigerian Lawyers Are Broke by dalitigator(m):
An average lawyer in litigation takes about 10 to 15 years before he/she starts making good money.

Reason is 6 years in school ( 5+1)

Second, to become a good litigator, you have to cut your teeth. Learn the practicals.

You have to spend an average of 4 to 10 years cutting your teeth.

You won't trust a rookie to handle a complex commercial case or a murder trial or a a complex land or mortgage case. Or even election matters.

These are were the money is in litigation.

So it takes time.

Most people do not have this patience and are not willing to put in the time.

I understand we all want sharp sharp money. Believe me, there is money in law practice, if you Sabi wetin you dey do.

That's all.

Not If other lawyers create more awareness about their services and prove to the audience (potential clients) that they're equally well trained and efficient in service delivery.

Most of them just sit at home and wait for referrals (which is a recipe for poverty).

But you were ready to call me a bushman when I made the same statement about how the average Nigerian earns less than 500k.

The hypocrisy of most of you Nairalanders stink.

Lol...so you've pushed the blame back to me. grin

The latest is I'm not good with logics. Oga you're a hypocrite. Accept it with your full chest.

You critized me for the same words you repeated. Don't try to twist it. Cos if you were a politician in a civilized country, this can cost you an election. People would see you as a double faced person. So stop trying to save face by telling me I don't understand logic and learn to defend what you stand for. That's what integrity is all about. That's if you even know what it means.

Rest biko.

I've called you out for your obvious hypocrisy you're here forming academician. You're the kind of person who can never admit when he's clearly wrong.

Well the reality of the matter is that a large percentage of average working class Nigerians under this Tinubu's administration regardless of their professional field earns less than 500k. You've admitted it so have I.

I rest my case. You should enroll for the classes cos you'd need them more.

Things You Were Not Taught In School, That Your Children Must Learn by Stepout23(f): 1:29pm On Feb 15
I remember a story I heard some years ago from a friend whose younger cousin graduated from one of the federal universities in Nigeria. When she graduated, her family celebrated, took pictures, and danced. She graduated with a second-class upper, so it calls for celebration because it is believed that her chance of getting a job was high. But a few months later, reality hit hard.

She couldn’t find a job. Her parents supported her for a while, but they couldn't do much because they have other of her siblings in school too. Rather, they were expecting her contribution to the family already since she has graduated. She didn’t know how to budget her little savings. She had no idea how to start a business or even write a proper CV.

One day, she came to my friend, who happened to be her cousin, crying, “Aunty, nobody told me it would be like this.” 💔

When she narrated her story to me, that’s when it hit me. Schools prepared us for exams, but not for real life.

As Nigerian parents, we work hard to give our children the best education, but is school enough? In today’s world, our children need more than just math and English. They need real-life skills that schools don’t teach.

Here are 10 important lessons your child MUST learn to succeed in the real world:

1️⃣ Financial literacy 💰 (How to budget, save, and invest)

2️⃣ Digital literacy 📱 (How to stay safe online)

3️⃣ Emotional intelligence 🧠 (Managing feelings and relationships)

4️⃣ Critical thinking 🤔 (How to analyze information and make smart decisions)

5️⃣ Entrepreneurship 📈 (How to start and manage a business)

6️⃣ Problem-solving 🛠️ (Handling challenges in real life)

7️⃣ Self-discipline 📆 (Managing time and responsibilities)

8️⃣ Negotiation skills 🤝 (How to get what you deserve)

9️⃣ Coding & technology skills 💻 (The future of work is digital!)

🔟 Self-defense & safety awareness 🛡️ (Protecting oneself in any situation)

💡 If schools won’t teach these, who will? As parents, let’s make sure our children don’t face life unprepared.

What do you wish you had learned earlier? Let’s discuss in this thread.

You have to create a separate thread to discuss it.
Good point though.
I wish I had learned how to be a minimalist - someone that has very few stuff, someone who'd give/throw things away
