With the exception of Benfica,Porto and probably Sporting Lisbon the standard of the remaining clubs in the Portuguese Primeira Liga are very poor. At best majority of those teams are English championship standard. Majority of the managers in the league are average at best.
It was easy for Amorim to ride roughshod over such teams playing his so called system. On the other hand the English Premier league is a different kettle of tea.
Personally I would be pleasantly surprised if Amorim is able to get over Arsenal tomorrow and Real Sociedad on Thursday. He just does not have the capacity.
So we should go for an EPL coach then? Maybe a well tested coach in the EPL like Moyes. Or if we can try to steal Pep. Since other leagues are championship standard. What do you think about Seria A? What do you think about Conte? Good enough for almighty EPL?

Manchester United are 140 years old.
Only three managers have won the league.
1. ERNEST MAGNALL 2. MATT BUSBY 3. ALEX FERGUSON.
This is football heritage according to Jose Mourinho.

I am not under any delusion or forlorn hope that Ruben Amorim can win this tough league even if he loads this team with 22 footballers that can play his system.
I have seen enough football to know in my mind that Ruben Amorim is NOT the one. He lacks the capacity. If INEOS trust him with money this summer I assure you that before December we will be discussing this same issue of a new manager.

@Bolded,
Please watch your language. You don't want to go that route with me. Post your thoughts and leave me alone to post my own.
In all the 140 years of Manchester United's existence only 3 managers have been able to win the Premier league or it's precursor the old first division. Ernest Magnall,Matt Busby and Alex Ferguson. And be informed that Ferguson has 13 out of the total 20 titles. There is reason for this. This is a tough tough league.
If you believe Amorim can win the Premier league in the next ten years you are entitled to your opinion but just keep the insults to yourself.
My last response to you.
If you understand English Language you will know I did not insult you.
I am not saying Amorim will win the league, but you wont know that when he is playing with a depleted squad lacking in quality and confidence. He even admitted he doesn’t have much time, when the time for Amorim to be judged reach we will all know. I am not among people who stupidly back managers, I was among those who first called out ETH, when signs are clearer. Calm down, its not clear yet, if Amorim will succeed or not.
Another of my points was on those bashing Dorgu, its too early, and the boy is really showing signs of working hard, thats the basis.

But we are being promised that all the manager needs is new players for us to see changes nau. The assumption was that they were always gonna hit the ground running, stay fit and avoid suspensions immediately they join

Are you saying we might wait 6 months into the next season again before we expect to see significant impact from the new signings?
Unfortunately, yes. Or at least December this year, when next season is around half way

Slot came from League 2 standard Eredivisie, just for context.
Ranieri came from championship standard Ligue 1 team Monaco
Mourinho came from Championship level Portugal.

Even Kompany came from Championship itself at Burnley to Bayern.

These are the kind of football teams in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

Ruben Amorim can run roughshod over these kind of half baked clubs sans Benfica and Porto. The English Premier league is a different kettle of tea with cerebral coaches from all over the world.
I am laughing out loud at anyone deluded that Amorim can win a single league title at Manchester United in the next 10 years.

That's the worst part. Some of these players think they are better than they actually are in reality. They have been together for over two years and most times they play like they don't know each other
Garnacho is the most guilty of this. He thinks he’s the finished article even though he still has loads of room to grow. The new additions don’t seem to have this problem tho

Just like many fans out there, the "it" I have complained excessively about, clearly pertains to the horrendous football on display...highlighting the lethargic and lacklustre performances we see almost on a weekly basis.

If by any chance the "it" in this context is Amorim ball that you have been waxing lyrical about, wahala dey o grin

You that have watched endless videos of Amorim ball, please educate those of us that don't have enough time to waste on a Portugese league that is obviously planets below the EPL in terms of quality

Thanks for this.

Irelevant to the discussion.

I am still not sure how this addresses the initial concerns raised below

Just describe Amorim ball in a few sentences that are clear and concise - no need for the endless shalayes please or is it a phantom style of play ? grin

You can’t sign a new coach mid-season and blame bad lethargic performances on his “new style “ when the same players have been churning out bad performances with the old styles they have been playing for years.

1 midfielder to share/rotate the midfield with Bruno and Ugarte, 1 WB to put Dalot on the bench, and 2 attackers. If we can loan out Hojlund to go rediscover himself
We have to build on the last window with quality signing that are worth their salt. Anything less would see the squad regress.

I suspect Mount and Shaw will come back strongly later this season and start playing like prime DiBaggio. Both of them should be sold this summer. We can’t rely on them at all. They have proven that they can’t be available when you need them.

I agree that both should be sold. By summer there should be around 6 first team departures.

My worry as well, which I have documented here many times. This guy is not looking like the real deal. If we spend massively under him, we would be wasting funds and stuck with Amorimball (whatever that is) players.

eph12:

Yes, he's less selfish now. But his decision making is still atrocious. Garnacho's best game is as an impact sub. Whenever he starts, he often just plays rubbish. He's not physically or mentally ready.

This is why I just laugh when some people call for the "yoots" to start games. A lot of them are not ready, and starting them prematurely can seriously affect their development.

The mistake we made was not recruiting properly. We spent 200m plus on Hojlund, Antony and Mount alone in 2 TWs. That sum can fetch at least 4 quality additions to the team if we do our homework.

Agreed. Departures PLUS incomings. We can't get rid of Rashford, Mount, Shaw, Antony, Eriksen, Lindelof and a few other players, refuse to replace them with quality options, and expect the team to perform well.

Garnacho's decision making started getting terrible when he transitioned into a starter. THIS WAS UNDER ETH.

Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by main24(m): 2:58pm On Mar 08, 2025
Our biggest problem has always been these miracle wins.

Honestly, I’m glad Amad and Lisandro Martínez are injured. In ETH’s first season, Rashford’s individual brilliance masked the fact that we were playing terrible football as a squad.

Amad was trying to pull off the same thing under Amorim. That mistake shouldn't happen twice.

People feel one coach will come and automatically make players good.

I felt that way before. Omo. We don try different managers. E no work.
