I appreciate all the helpful suggestions you've provided for securing funds; I have implemented some of them, and they have been beneficial. However, I still need about $4,500 to reach my goal. If you have any additional ideas or links to quick scholarships I could apply for, I would be very grateful. I'm currently in good academic standing and eager to explore more options. Thank you!
Doesn't MPower work for instances like this?

Ask your university if you can get some kind of exemption due to financial circumstances .like a payment plan.

This is a long shot...maybe set up go fund me?

Ooh there's a Dr Olu Asekun Law office YouTube channel. Holds every Wed at 12pm CST, questions are taken during the podcasts which he responds to on the live podcast.

Please, what visa categories are allowed to do business in America?

I would love to see more Nigerians do business in America. There is so much for the taking here.
H-1b and L-1 visas**

If you hold H-1b or L-1 visa, your spouse is eligible to work or start a business.

H-4s (spouses of H-1b), under certain circumstances, are issued an unrestricted EAD card that allows them to engage in any kind of employment/business.

L-2s (spouses of L-1) are eligible for employment/business by virtue of their status.

All immigrant visas (EBs) also allow the holder and their spouses to work or engage in business.

Hey Guys. I’m currently in the USA on a B1/B2 visa and I just found a way to apply for an ITIN - independent taxpayer identification number. I needed to get this because I cannot get an SSN

--------

Please advise, will this pose me any problems with embassy in future?

Because honestly, I’m doing nothing wrong!
Anyone can buy a house, even from Nigeria. As long as there's a willing seller.

Proper planning...
F2 cannot work.

My story
I came to the States on f2 visa but I started nursing school immediately. As f1 I have been working with my school teaching hospital with CPT and the work pays well at least for a student. I graduate this summer and of course I would get a job by God's grace with my Opt, from there get a hospital to file green card for me and my family.

So, plan your life very well. F1 has benefits
Right now it's so easy to switch to f1 from f2 if you consider that
Sis ,please how can I contact you

1. Research into the EB categories of green cards. There is a thread on this in Nairaland.

2. If you are single, you can find love and marry a permanent resident or a citizen.
For option 2 do they have a Nairaland group or WhatsApp group?

Hello, can we connect? I am also a nursing student here. Though, I will be graduating in May next year. I want to know how you got a job in your University hospital.

I think they have some on social media. You can use keywords like K1 visa, CR1 visa, US marriage visa to search Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, etc. I don't think there is such group in Nairaland.

Also, you can use social media, dating sites to find US based citizens or permanent residents looking for love

This thread is for immigrants who live or will be living in the US.
What you’re asking here is for instructions on how to buy a fraudulent return ticket and a fraudulent travel itinerary so that your mum can go to France. You’re desperate so you’re willing to pay for these items without any discretion and anyone can see this so someone will do it just to take your money—-rejection and 10 year ban for your mum loading. Good luck.
You're not just educated but also highly intelligent.
I love how this truth was expressed blatantly 😁

Is there any long-term implications of filing tax with an attorney for higher returns instead of using SPRINTAX as a student? Please advice...

Your concern should be competency and accuracy of the attorney and Sprintax.

Returns are based on your unique situation as per the tax laws, filing with attorney or an accountant, or other tax filing services irrespective.

Mind you, no attorney or tax services will give you a guarantee against IRS probe in future.
Re: Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 by Faith063: 5:43am On Mar 06, 2025
This is kind of serious then, SPRINTAX review is showing I'm owing as well as entitle to a refund which I'm kind of confuse about. I only upload my w2 and answer some questions truthfully

That means Springtax might not be accurate.

Try use Turbotax or HRBlock.

Heard turbotax is for citizen and could file my tax wrongly

I haven't heard of that before. I doubt it because I have used them before I became a citizen and they were as accurate as HRBlock.

In recent years, I alternate between both Turbotax and HRBlock just due to prices and discounts on their services.

Have you tried any of the IRS free e-filing companies
I've used Free tax and 1040.com

On IRS site you'll see a list and select which you prefer.

I didn't pay for either of them. I tried both of them. I currently use 1040.com because it still doesn't charge for state returns.

I was not asked for citizenship information from either.

As a student you should have ssn which is what was asked for

If springtax said you owe and also said you have a refund then it might be based on what you filed as and if you selected itemized or standard deduction or if you had a jump income from previous year.

Sha don't owe IRS as an employee.

It's employers that can get away with that grin

If you mistaken come back for Naija.. hunger go finish you join. All this pple here nobody go send you shishi sef..

Hold on for dear life.. find your way there. No try come back empty handed.. unless see you see poverty oo..

Do whatever it takes to gather enough before coming back.. you'll thank sooner than later for this..

God is your strength

I dont think so,
it wont affect your OPT and I dont think it would come up during any H1B application or employment visa.

you are in financial straits, you did not expect to be in this position, and you said you have 5 days.

Unless there are other options in your locality where someone can loan you cash

So cute! Living as an immigrant can be challenging, but when you add the pressure of being an immigrant student, it becomes even more intense. I’m speaking from personal experience, and it’s not easy to juggle all the academic demands, especially when you're doing it in a foreign language. It feels like every assignment is a mountain to climb, and you’re constantly trying to catch up while adjusting to a new culture. But honestly, DoMyPaper https://domypaper.com/ saved me. Thanks to their incredible support, I was able to manage my assignments in a language that wasn't my own, and it really made all the difference. They helped me stay on top of things, reduce my stress, and focus on succeeding in my studies without feeling overwhelmed.

Guys, please I need advise

I’m traveling to the US in May, my port of entry will be JFK. I have bought a round trip ticket and plan to return to Nigeria after 27 days. I have 2 conferences in New York and a third conference in California

I have a close relative in New York who I’ll stay with to attend my 2 New York conferences

My California conferences is 2 weeks after my New York conference

My question is this
Do I need to book my domestic flight from New York to California before I travel

Do I need to book my hotel in Carlifornia before I travel ?

NB: I have accommodation in New York already

You can do it before you travel and you can as well do it few days before you travel to California. As a matter of fact you can buy a plane ticket or book a hotel any time.

will the immigration officer at the border ask me why I haven’t booked a hotel/flight for my California trip once I arrive New York

That’s my fear

That's why it's advisable to book it before hand just so the immigration officers won't have any reason to doubt you..

You ought to be able to show them your travel itineraries and hotel receipts to back up your travel plans for them to be convinced..

Short answer NO

Long answer you got a multiple entry visa so the expiration date is not the issue its the i94 The amount of time you are permitted to stay in the US is based on that. When you crossed into America it was set. Go check i94.cbp.dhs.gov for your own.
US embassy in Lagos will see when you entered the US. They will tell you to book for interview.
