In Nigerian today, its common among Married couples sleeping in separate bedrooms. It’s mainly a function of having enough room in the house/apartment, but I think it is a more normal/acceptable thing to do in higher social classes who don’t feel the need to demonstrate their love/commitment by sharing a bed every night.

Looking at issue in another direction, I don’t know if there are any couples who sleep in separate beds other than they were not in a good state of marriage. But, I do know some couples who sleep with their kids for years. I do know some couples who sleep all together with their kids in one bedroom, or the husband goes to living room simply because they only have one bedroom. As far I know, they also have s@x, not regularly, but mostly it is enough to keep them sane. Of course the intimacy, the s@x, and the friendahip get better when they sleep together, just to of them.

If you have the space, it makes a lot of sense not being disturbed by your bed partner who may snore, get up at a different time, prefer a different temperature etc., and having your own things in the room. Couples do choose to sleep apart, and this practice can be attributed to various factors.

Reason why couple sleep in separate rooms

Many wealthy individuals have large homes with multiple bedrooms, allowing them to have separate sleeping quarters for personal space and privacy.

Couples with demanding careers or differing schedules may find it more practical to sleep separately to accommodate their routines.

Some people simply prefer to sleep alone due to personal comfort or sleep habits, such as snoring or restlessness.
Cultural Factors: In some cultures or social circles, sleeping apart can be a common practice and may not carry any negative connotations.

For some couples, sleeping apart can help maintain a sense of independence and reduce conflicts, contributing positively to their relationship.

The reason is that wealthy people are more prone to marry for social status, rather than actual love and commitment.

This kind of marriage can go sour quickly, while the couple feels compelled to stay together for appearances. What usually happens is that they soon get sick of each other, and quietly have their affairs on the side.

Couples who truly love each other don’t like to sleep apart. They want to be next to each other regularly.

Couples supposed to have separate Tv. But that's very uncommon even within the rich people.

Space, privacy is really important in relationships/marriage.

Would you even be always be around, not to talk of room sharing..

I sleep in a separate room from my wife. My work schedule makes me return home late most times. So instead of waking her up I'll rather sleep in the guest bedroom. It hasn't affected our relationship in anyway.

The intimacy gets better, not necessarily the friendship. We all should know of at least one couple who slept in the same bed pretty much every day of their marriage only for one of them getting up to eventually end the life of the other. If not from the real world, then at least from the papers or here on the Crime Section on Nairaland. We also know of couples who sleep in the same bed all while committing adultery in others. Sleeping in the same bed is majorly for intimacy reasons.
