Beans porridge & fried yams chips 🍟

In the final analysis, the cutlery🍴🥄 were
abandoned and the yam chips got used as
'edible' cutlery.. 😋😋😋

Since there are a lot of food enthusiasts here I thought to share this here and see how people react to it over opening an entire thread.
I guess we all know this food critic Opeyemi.

Somewhere in my head I am often wondering what qualifies him as a food critic.
You must be a master of an art before you qualify to critic it.
I assume you must have gone to a culinary school, worked or owned a restaurant.
Cooked specific dishes over a million times before you can qualify to be a critic.

How can someone who can't cook afang soup for example critic the soup. How do you even know what to look out forhuh

Can I just wake up someday and declare that i am a doctor. Even if u had gone to medical school, you'd still have to do housemanship etc before you are qualified.

But in this generation anything goes, especially on the social media space.

To critic food is a little different. You don't have to be able to cook food to appreciate it or have a refined pallet. It might actually be better if your don't know how to make the dish so biases about level of difficulty don't influence opinion of the actual dish.

That being said, I have no idea who that Opeyemi person is, but there are way too many food critics online who just try leverage their followings to extort for good reviews.

If you don't know how to cook the food you critic, how do u know how to judge d level of ingredients and spices. Some soups are best with plenty oil, some without oil vice-versa sweet or savory.
I watch beat booby flay alot, and one thing I have come to realize is that even though they tell us viewers that the judges do a blind tasting and Bobby doesn't have anything to do with selecting the judges, they always have on hand experience with the kind of signatory dish the contestant selects.
For example can you bring Bobby flay to be a judge over an amala contesthuh

Your tongue is where much of that judging takes place, so it does not matter whether or not you can make the dish itself. undecided

Maybe it will be like fried minced yam ?.

But try it and let us know.

I don't want to try and trash the outcome. Yam is too dear to throw away cuz of ojojo wink
Ojojo is worth it, trust me. cheesy
Feedback coming up.

For ojojo, I enjoyed it when my mom made it. Same with the one (water yam) you grate and then cook in boiling base of ingredients.
That is Ikokore.

If he was in the category of Gordon Ramsay, I can understand. He’s just a glutton with an exaggerated sense of self.

It is the people that attach importance to him that I blame. I rather pick Brian Nwanna or Hotperidot over that McFatty.

If you watch chopped, those judges are the true examples of food critics.

When the contestants are given mystery ingredients, these judges in the background can say sth in the lines of “Mussels and clams are best cooked in white wine for extra richness and flavor”. That’s because they know the ingredient and what goes best per cooking.

Your purported food critic is the type that will question why you are using white wine to cook clams and mussels.

People grow up with particular tastes for particular cuisines. When you prepare that cuisine differently, their palate might rebel. A food critic is one who knows such cuisine may be prepared using many methods and diff ingredients, timing and marinates if need be.
A food critic isn't biased and traditional.
Eg, at one time here, somebody wrote she prepared akara with bullion cube, onions, pepper and egg. We all came after her but a food critic will not do that. Curiosity made me try it one day, I even added ginger and loved the outcome.

Food critic can welcome making egwusi soup with groundnut oil.

A core igbo person will never agree to eating ewedu soup with stew if she is a food critic. So it is beyond the palate. You got to know everything about what you are judging. Must have tried them. Have seen people's reactions on eating such.

If you make fried rice for a Chinese food critic without wok and soy sauce. A spoon and they will know. So you gotta know everything about food and must have spent time in the kitchen

I don't cook. It'll be derailing to the thread if I post pictures of food I didn't cook. Moreover, I don't have a kitchen.

What's the title of the thread again?
