Dear Nairalanders,

In an effort to address persistent complaints about toxicity on the forum, we extended the mandate of the anti-spam bot to try and tackle insults, tribalism, obvious scams, etc.

While this move dealt a heavy blow to bad actors, the bot also made many mistakes which led to innocent people getting banned from time to time for no good reason. I understand how you feel about this. It is simply not acceptable.

We have reduced the length of the bot bans from up to 3 days to no more than 30 minutes. We are also working to massively improve the accuracy of the bot. Meanwhile, if you are mistakenly blocked, please don' take it personally. We will fix it as soon as we can.

My old main account was banned for years for what I didn’t know or do.

I think 30 minutes might be quite short for the bad actors. Make it one day at the least. Also, if you are using AI, have it calculate the weight of toxicity for each comment and only issue bans when a threshold is passed.

The bot is selective, i noticed comments with insults from some accounts remain visible while others are hidden.
Also, too many hidden comments on a thread makes it dry and the conversation dull.
The bot is overreaching—sanity is good, but not at the expense of silencing people.

While three days of 72 hours is too long, the current duration of 30 minutes is also too short for the appropriate lessons to be learned.

Two or three hours would be appropriate.

So, what's the job of Moderators if bots are now assigned to ban comments for insults and tribalism?. Then sack your Mods, AI has taken their jobs, AI can also push threads to FP.
I was already tired of sending numerous mails to the Mods, I was already thinking about abandoning my account until this shenanigans is corrected.

I was also blocked 2ce for no reason but I believe this update should help. Thanks for continuously updating us on improvements.

Little wonder I commented on a post yesterday and in less than 3 seconds I got banned for an harmless comment lol..
