I’ve never been the spiritual type. I don’t believe in ghosts, the supernatural. Or at least, I didn't’ until recently. Something strange has been happening in my house, and it’s making me question everything I thought I knew.

I lost my girlfriend in a tragic accident last November. She was on her way to a friend’s traditional wedding when it happened. I’m not seeing anyone currently, but I have hookup girls visit on the weekends.

Two months ago, I was in the sitting room watching a premier league match when I heard a strange sound coming from the bathroom down the corridor. It sounded like someone moving buckets and rushing tap, almost like someone was washing clothes. That was odd, considering I was home alone.

I got up and walked toward the bathroom. As I approached, the sound abruptly stopped. When I entered, everything seemed normal, except for the dripping tap. It was as if someone had just turned it off a second before I walked in. I assumed it was a plumbing issue and brushed it off. But it kept happening. Not once or twic, more than six times now. And always when I’m home alone.

What haunts me most is that this was the bathroom my ex girlfriend used to wash cloths. She once told me washing clothes helped her relax and helped clear her mind.

But it doesn’t stop there. Sometimes, I come home from work to find my bed made and my clothes folded neatly. At times, the entire house is spotless, like someone had just cleaned it from top to bottom. It got so crazy I installed security cameras to figure out what was going on. Strangely enough, once the cameras were in place, the activity stopped. I left them running for a month. Nothing.

A week after I removed them, everything started up again. My girlfriend was always the type to clean my house and make sure everything is spotless. That's why I think she is the one. I know I sound crazy but that's the only possible explanation.
At night, I hear footsteps in the corridor and living room. Once, while I was on a Zoom call, someone knocked on my bedroom door. I immediately exited the call out of fear . There was no one else in the house.

I’ve considered moving out, but it’s not so simple. I just renewed my rent in January, and with how crazy housing prices have gotten in Lagos, finding another place close to work feels impossible right now.

I don’t know what’s happening. I don’t know if I’m losing it or if something or someone is really still here with me. I never believed in ghosts. But now? I’m not so sure.
If you have any advice, I’d genuinely appreciate it. I just want some peace of mind one way or another.

I will suggest you visit her grave site with flowers and appeal to her that death have separated both of you and you want her to take this flower and stop frightening you as you have moved on that if it was possible, you could have prevented her death, but it happened far away from you.

If you don't know where her burial ground is, you can contact her parents and inform them of your experience, so that you can separate yourself from her

Op, I am afraid the problem is not linked to your galfriend but to you; your mind merely uses the hallucinations to help you better cope with that which you probably aren't ready to deal with or accept. Please make an appointment immediately to see a professional mental health psychologist or psychiatrist. And work with the therapist to ensure you get past this trauma that seems to have taken control of you life this while.
