Our immune system is the only thing saving us from that hands of wicked Nigerians in the food sector. When I have money, I will start a small farm and poultry for me and my family.
Is it really saving us or it's gradually destroying it. The food sector has killed alot of people before their time, if not immediately the effect is seen after several years.
Re: Stones In Garri by Bahamas95(m): 6:17pm On Apr 24, 2025
Most Nigerians are wicked in nature, they can do anything to make money without minding the safety of others.

I stopped eating that stupîd meat called tinko many years ago because of two reasons.

1. The last time I ate it I was just chewing sand alongside the meat.

2. I don't wanna eat a human or strange meat someday thinking it's beef.

The Bible God's word has already prophecied about our time
In Hosea chapter 12:7 " But in the hand of the tradesman or woman are deceptive scale. He loves to defraud."
The Almighty God strongly detest such dishonest practices.

As somebody with plenty of years of experience in cassava planting and garri processing, I can explain why some garri have sand/stones.
In my village then, we wouldn't process the garri meant for consumption and the one for market the same way.
The one for consumption is processed this way:
Harvest theccassava -> leave it for a day -> peal the cassava -> wash -> grate -> leave for two to three days -> press to remove the water -> fry. You may add water or not while frying.
The one for market?
Harvest cassava - peal the same day -> wash -> press to remove water the same day if possible -> fry semi dry and then sun dry.
Why the difference in the methods of processing?
You want the garri for sale to be white and more in quantity. We were told that the buyers preferred whiter garri than the full looking one.
The garri actually comes in contact with sand in the process of sun drying...
I hope with this few points of mine, you now understand
Thank you.
Re: Stones In Garri by wunmi590(m): 7:06pm On Apr 24, 2025
huh

The environment they make it from is what is making it sandy, I could remember when I served in Akwa ibom, the processing environment is outside, so dust and alot of things might occur and enter into it....
Re: Stones In Garri by mu2sa2: 7:19pm On Apr 24, 2025
Never buy garri sold in uncovered containers. Those garri are exposed to dust, sand, dirt and other contaminants. These days there are factory-packed garri of good quality which are hygienic for consumption - the price may be higher but you know you're buying quality.

sand and silt since the time of Mungo Park... 😃 😀 😄

A bag of Garri weigh 50KG.

Breakdown analysis:
Pure Garri: 49kg
Pure Sand: 1kg.

Tell me your location, I want to check something first. A bit common in communities where they hardly consume Garri but buy for few customers who need it. In that case they go for lesser quality Garri to sell.

this is actually true. I hope to have finances to start processing beams without chaff.
Re: Stones In Garri by Nobody: 8:30pm On Apr 24, 2025
OP your concern is valid but calling government into this might be out of place . These garri we eat are made in villages and towns with little supervision from anyone apart from the very people making it. Maybe government through Ministry of Health, Orientation or maybe NAFDAC would do something about it but I doubt.

Best option, do it yourself
Second best option buy from good store that sell well made garri

Ever since I saw how the make garri, I've avoided that ish. It was Al-majiri children that they employed to be spreading in on sacks laid out on the floor. Those dirty kids with their barefoot were walking all over the garri. And I'm supposed to eat that?

I don't care how they make garri in any other part of Nigeria. I don't want. Imagine that as they are frying the garri they are sweating into it and I'm not making this up.
I don't know when Hausa people began making Gari?
A big Tribal bigot.

Re: Stones In Garri by Evolutionism:
I have complained about this issue since time immemorial.

If one sees where and how most of our Local Foods are processed, It's kinda an eyesore. This manually processed garri is always being packaged on bare cemented floor.

There was a time i drank the garri, Even after serious seiving process, I still saw sand beneath the garri when i was almost through drinking🤢

I had to ditched it and opted for the well processed products. Quite costly but No sand beneath or single cassava particles in it.

Most Nigerians are very unhygienic people.
Re: Stones In Garri by GravityDefier: 9:57pm On Apr 24, 2025
From roadside sellers. It may be as a result of dust particles flying around. Most of them don't cover the garri.

There is a reason I asked for location. cheesy grin grin.

In that state and some areas or regions in that state, Garri na foreign food. Don't expect them to get you premium garri knowing fully well they hardly have buyers or costumers. Manage am like that. I can see you are going for the yellow product. The white one is even more terrible than the yellow ones. cheesy grin cheesy grin
Re: Stones In Garri by Abemy(m): 10:01pm On Apr 24, 2025
Fufu, Akpu to be precise, smells because the cassava was soaked without pelling it, not because of adding detergent. If you peel the casava before soaking, the oudour is minimized.

But seriously, this topic is really important. Omo through out this year all the garri I have been buying, have been filled up with multitude of sand in it. And I'm the type of person that like drinking garri sometimes..

If you see sand wey dey full underneath my garri now if I dey drink...I go just shout Jesus..

The issue now is, pls what are the health implications of this, because this is not really funny any more. What about those of us that use it for Eba...Will it cause any hazard...abeg I need to know oo 🤦‍♂️😭😭

What about appendix pls
You have to stop now, or else you are joking with impending kidney stones.

Visit big Malls near you and get the processed ones, It's Costly but won't cost you your health.
