Good day all. Apologies if this has been asked already, the thread is so long. I know someone who recently got a UK visit visa denial. I helped in his process because I myself had gotten the visa before. This is his first UK visa but he has travelled to 2 African countries in the past. He was denied on some grounds that I will mention later, but first a background. He was selected to go for a training in June. Flights and accommodation are fully covered by the organising body. (He attached the selection letter that detailed this point). The only costs he anticipated was feeding/miscellaneous which he earmarked 400 gbp for. For this, he attached his personal statement. Now, he is employed and earns about 400k from his 9 - 5, but he has other income from side hustles/freelance which he stated as he needed to explain deposits of large sums of money (usually larger than his monthly income by 2x or 3x sometimes, but it is sporadic) apart from the monthly salary into his account. He wrote an explanation of finances letter, detailing every transaction above 100k in his account statement. His wife also sent him the sum of 500k as travel support. This was clearly indicated in the transfer as travel support. I also asked her to write a letter where she mentioned she is his spouse and had also sent him 500k for the trip. He also explained all these in his personal statement. He added his employment letter, payslips, letter of acknowledgement from his employer (where they mentioned they were aware of his trip and his return date), letter from his bank. His wife didn't attach her statement because she sent him the money already and sent a letter to that effect. He was denied on the following grounds: "You have indicated that your sponsor (your spouse) will pay 500000.00 NGN (£232.68) towards the cost of your trip. Whilst you have submitted various documents in regards to your own financial circumstances, the documents you have provided do not demonstrate your sponsor’s personal or financial circumstances. I am therefore not satisfied that your sponsor can and will provide you with support for the intended duration of your stay. Furthermore, you have also declared on your VAF that you are in receipt of xNGN a year (£x) in additional income (I redacted the amount) . However, there are no references to the additional income in the transaction history of your bank account or information provided by you that demonstrates how the additional income is derived and therefore without further information I have been unable to determine if you are in receipt of this additional income. Therefore, I’m not satisfied that your financial circumstances are as you have declared on your VAF. I have made careful consideration of your family ties to both the UK and your home country. In making my consideration, I note the statements made by you in your visa application form regarding the presence of your spouse. However, I note that the information provided with your application does not support your statements, the presence of your dependants in your home country or elsewhere, nor their dependency upon you. This, in conjunction with the concerns relating to your economic ties stated above, gives me reason to further doubt that you will depart the UK at the end of the period stay" Mistakes I think we made: When asked who was paying towards his trip in the form, he wrote his wife, that's why I believe she was looked at as sponsor. They expected her bank statement too. I don't understand the additional income statement as he clearly stated where the extra monies came from in his explanation of finances. I also don't understand the family ties part because he attached his marriage certificate and mentioned he has his extended family in Nigeria as reasons why he will return. Next steps: He needs to reapply as the training is in June and he has to attend. This time around I'm thinking of advising him to use his employer as a sponsor (employer is willing according to him) for any miscellaneous costs and not include anything about his personal finances like bank statement. The flights and accommodation are already covered by the body organising the training. Should he state he has Dependents this time around? He did the last time and see what the ECO said above. Please, I need advice from the house as he's disappointed. I submitted similar documents to his in the past and got my visa, that's why I am surprised at this denial. I'll be following to answer questions as well. Thank you. |

deevah:Sorry about the denial. The whole "packaging" was too complicated in my opinion. First, why did he ask his wife to deposit money in his account? That was very unnecessary. If he is being sponsored for a conference or training, then he really doesn't need his wife to give him any money. His wife was viewed as his sponsor - hence the need for her own statement of account. Extended family don't count as adequate ties to Nigeria. Your spouse, children, aged parents and good job/business are ties that they usually accept. The transactions in his account probably confused the visa officer and he/she just couldn't make sense of them - despite the attempt to explain them. If he applies again, he is most likely to get another denial. If his company now decides to sponsor him, it might look suspicious. Why did his company not sponsor him in the first instance? In my humble opinion, he is unlikely to get the visa if he reapplies before June. He needs to clean up his account and save over 6 to 12 months and then maybe apply as a tourist sometime later this year or next year. |

All these I explained, we explained the extra amounts in cover letters are very very ridiculous. If you have unexplained deposits every day every week every month which are exceeding your income- it is money lodgement until proven otherwise. Proven otherwise means you bring documentary proof beyond reasonable doubts to verify the authenticity of these additional incomes and not to write a letter saying you are explaining. Explaining is not evidence and can not count. You over packaged the application and they saw it. If I were an ECO I can not give this profile you have explained a visa.. this person will be a huge gamble to take for any visa officer . Money lodgement can not get anyone a visa. If you have a side hustle + no travel history to UK, Schenghen, USA, Canada, Australia - clean up the account you want to submit to the embassy. Leave the account for the visa application alone. Run all your transactions elsewhere. |

This whole process reeks of despiration. If you did your research well enough to know unexplanied deposits need to be explained, you should have also known that the best option based on his messy finances is to keep a clean account especially for a first timer with no strong travel history. The possible reason you did not excersie patience to build your account for at least 6months shows despiration. The finances was just too messy. An invitation was offered to him but he wasnt ripe to take advantage of the oppournity based on the nature of his finances, now he has to scale more hurdles on his next application. Even if he has a sponsor and you submit the spoonsor's bank statement, he still has to submit his own bank statement as well deevah: |

I need advice from experienced people before I continue with my application, please. I want to attend a one-week conference in the first week of July. I am a student member of the society, and I have received a travel grant from them, which will cover my accommodation, meals, and round-trip airfare. I am applying as a student because I am currently pursuing my PhD in Nigeria. Although I also work, my office will not give me a letter, even though I plan to officially apply for leave. Do I still need to show my bank statement? I don’t have major savings there. I really need guidance. I thought this would be a simple process, but now I’m feeling scared because of the things I’m reading here. Make una guide me abeg. |
| Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by crackcrack: 5:11pm On Apr 24, 2025 |
donfelix4sure:I’ve responded a few times to people who were in similar situations as you. Since you are going to be fully sponsored, you’ll need to explain your relationship with the sponsor and why attending the conference is important to both of you. Why is the Society sending you? What’s the benefit to them? Why you and not somebody else in the Society? Even though you are being fully sponsored, your own circumstances in Nigeria must be fully and accurately painted. Submit evidence of your PhD studies. This shouldn’t be too hard for you to figure out. Submit evidence of your employment. Why won’t your office give you an introduction letter? That sounds weird to me. But if they remain hesitant, submit your original employment letter and leave letter. Submit any promotion letters you have, as well as salary increase letters, if applicable. Submit your bank statement, and let it be clean. This is probably the most important thing. Let the only credits to your account be your salary from your employer, and let your monthly expenses match what you put on the visa application form. Hope your Employer’s status on CAC’s website is Active? If not, try to get that sorted, if you can, before submitting your application. |

Visa Refusal Overturned! If you feel that the Home Office adjudicated your visa application wrongly, sometimes it is important to go the hard way and hitting back can potentially bring about a positive outcome. My lawyer advised me to do just that when my mother’s application was refused a second time with another flimsy excuse. The first refusal was due to unexplained funds in her account. We waited for a while and put in a second application for her to visit for Christmas. Everything seemed perfect. More than 20 documents submitted with sufficient funds in her account, employment and property ownership documents. I submitted everything necessary and opted to be her sponsor. Her application for entry clearance was refused. The Home Office refused her application on two grounds: (a) unexplained increase in salary from her previous application, which we explained with evidence - very laughable!!!! (b) that they were unsure if her sponsor would still have a valid leave by the time of her visit (a stupid move, because my ILR had been approved the previous month and the ECO probably didn’t check the BRP submitted). The lawyer laughed when he saw this and told me to lock horns with the Home Office. We sent a Pre-Action Protocol (PAP) Letter on 30th December 2024 asking the Home Office to reconsider its decision or we proceed to judicial review. They replied on 8th January asking for 3 months to review the case. We sent a reminder mail on 9th April, and the Home Office decided to overturn its decision yesterday. They apologised and asked for the passport to be submitted to VFS. Imagine if we took the high road and accepted such nasty fate, when in fact we had a strong case! If you feel an injustice against you has been done by the Home Office, take it legal sometimes. This does not apply to most visa refusal cases of course, but if you feel a reconsideration is warranted then go for it by sending a message to the complaint office or getting a lawyer to send a PAP. Yes, it cost me more than £1200 in legal fees, but I got the right outcome! If we had accepted it and reapplied, they would’ve found another excuse to refuse her again and her record would’ve remained tarnished. |

Would a letter from school and her(my) parents who reside in Nigeria be enough for home ties ? please anyone that has done a similar application kindly share Thank you |

Good morning here, please i will like to ask a question can I use my savings account as salary account and at the same time to use it for my day to day activities for my personal business, can this account be use to present it as my bank statement when applying for UK visiting visa. Also is it necessary or mandatory to state it on cover letter in case of any salary increasement and can I submit a joint account with spouse as support document. |
| Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Cashmadam: 12:30pm On Apr 25, 2025 |
Trust2021:Too much going on. You are going to confuse the visa officer. Have a salary account seperate from your personal business. Yes, you can use a joint account if you have full access to the funds. You don't need a cover letter. Submit evidence of the salary increment from your office - e.g a letter from the HR department. |

Adunnishugar:I'm not sure a minor can travel alone. In those days, a minor must travel with an adult - the adult's passport number would be endorsed on the minors UK visa. I'm not sure how it works these days as my children are now adults. Perharps others can help. And yes, her parents and school can serve as ties to Nigeria. |

1st Application Applied with my two children – Visa refused. 2nd Application Again, applied with my two children – Visa refused. 3rd Application Applied alone – Visa refused. 4th Application Applied alone – Visa refused. 5th Application Applied with my two children. UKVI contacted me to provide an additional document, which I submitted. My visa and my daughter’s visa were approved, but my son’s remained pending. I kept calling UKVI until the issue was escalated. Eventually, they reached out and apologized, explaining it was a technical issue and not my fault. The following week, I received the approval email and call from UK asking me to go to Vfs without pick up mail which I did. Just picked up the passport. VISA APPROVED for three of us. Bottom line: All our visas were finally approved. I learned a lot from this platform, which gave me the confidence to handle the application process on my own. I also backed it up with heartfelt prayers and praise to GOD! Sometimes, when you've done everything right and things still don’t work out, it may be spiritual. That’s why I turned to prayer. To anyone going through this journey—don’t give up, no matter what. They may say no, but GOD has the final say. PERIOD! Wishing you all the very best! |

Cashmadam:There is something called “accompanying minor” i hope i got the spelling. Qatar offers it. I dont know if other airline offers it. Its like paying extra for the airline to assign a staff to watch your kid until ur kid reaches his destination and they hand over the kid to you. |
| Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Oggg: 3:38pm On Apr 25, 2025 |
eniola1010:Unaccompanied minor service. It’s not paid for. All the major airlines offer it, the difference is in the ages. Some take from above 5, some above 8 years etc. It is a very common service. No extra payment needed. |
