DISMANTLING THE DECADE LONG FALSEHOOD ABOUT "THE IGBO COUP"
The untold truth about the coup that was blamed on Igbos.
Prior to 1966. There were 3 major parties. Nnnamdi Azikiwe belonged to the NCNC. Awolowo and Akintola belonged to the Action Group. Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello etc belonged to the NPC. Elections were conducted and to the chagrin of people in the southwest the results were perceived to be manipulated. They felt the northerners were manipulating to dominate southwest. There was unrest in the southwest.

The Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa installed Akintola as premier of southwest and Awolowo felt Akintola betrayed him. They fell out. Awolowo was thrown to jail. Southwest was boiling. A group of young officers from all ethnic group took it upon themselves to execute top politicians with the intent to install Awolowo (I feel that was the mistake they made, they shouldn't have intervened).

So how is it an Igbo coup? So, when Veterans like IBB tells you that there is nothing like an Igbo coup, you understand the context?

We have passed this level. We already know it's Igbo Coup.
Aside your introductory paragraph was wrong. Ladoke Akintola was already the Leader of Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP) by the general election of 1965. Correct yourself.

Believe what you want. The age long lie has been unmask. I am aware there is a propaganda to blame it on the Igbos and hide contrary facts. The contrary facts are what veterans like IBB who was a soldier at the time is uncovering through his book. That there is nothing like an Igbo coup and that the intentions of the coupists was to free Awolowo and make him president

IIGB0S will continue to pay for the brutal and evil ethnic cleansing they carried out in the name of coup in January 1966.

I feel sorry for you lots because no matter how much u twist and turn, that stigma of treachery and betrayal in that 1966 IIGB0 coup (ethnic cleansing) will forever hang on your necks so long as Nigeria exists.

Not again
Because the majority of coup leaders were Igbo doesn’t mean it was an Igbo coup . In reality Yorubas and others were complicity.
That said , why are we revisiting this narrative.
We are one Nation - Nigeria. If a section of igbos want to secede have this motion /referendum on the ballot boxes and not through shedding of blood.

To a large extent, the OP is correct!

For a long time I have always thought that it was an Igbo coup. In fact, most storytellers and most books pointed toward the fact that it was an igbo coup! But it was never an Igbo coup!

Major Kaduna Nzeogwu himself was more of a northerner than an easterner; he was very close to Sir Ammadou Bello (who he later killed himself). These young officers were fighting against the major political power of that time in the persons of Tafawa Balewa, Akintola, Sir Ammadou Bello, etc., as they accused them of corruption by throwing Awolowo/b] in prison at the time.

Aguiyi ironsi was also marked for execution but was lucky enough not to be at home but at an event. In the takeover speech by Kaduna Nzeogwu at the time was that 'They were going to free awolowo and give him military backing for 6 months.'

They were fighting to free Awolowo and support him, but the escape of Aguiyi Ironsi from execution during that coup gave it the nickname 'Igbo Coup'. However, Aguiyi ironsi was later executed in a countercoup by northern soldiers 6 months after the January 1966 coup.
