I want to share something painful from my past, something that affected my life forever. So, I got married in the year 2000, and not long after, I gave birth to my son, Raymond. From the moment he was born, our lives became full of hospital visits, sleepless nights, and endless medical expenses.

The sickness didn’t just affect my son, it affected my marriage too. My husband and I were always stressed. We argued constantly. We blamed each other for everything. Love slowly disappeared from our home. We went from lovers to strangers who only talked about hospital bills.

In 2006, the marriage couldn’t survive anymore. We went our separate ways, and I was left to raise Raymond alone. It was hard, so hard that I had to leave my acting career behind. I just couldn’t focus. I was broken. Then came the biggest blow of all, Raymond passed away at the age of 17. That pain is something I carry with me every day.

Please, know this before you fall in love, know your genotype. Love is truly a beautiful thing, but it is not strong enough to carry the weight of this sickness called sickle cell. Know your genotype before love blinds you. I lost everything because I didn’t.

Sorry about your ordeal. Technology has created a little bit of succour to AS intending couples. For instance, the genotype of the fetus can always be ascertained before birth and if not likely******. Also, just the couples can opt for In Vitro Fertilization with Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis.

Husband ran away since 2006, unfortunately with a sickler child. I'm a practical person and have faced life challenges in life. Remarrying should have been her option, maybe she listened to people like you. Nothing unusual. I'm sure the Man had gone ahead to raise a new family and a happy person today

I'm not being callous. I'm saying this because of those who might be in such situation. If they are still married, that marriage is not valid and should be dissolved immediately. Let both parties go separate ways and raised new family.
Like she said nobody can marry in my family without proof of Genotype compatibility.

We tried all possible options as well and there was a particular herbal medicine one man from Ilorin used to supply us back then which worked quite well in stopping the frequent crisis. We lost contact with him at some point.

We also tried other means too including decompresssion surgery. We were saving for a marrow transplant when he died. My close cousin actually had a marrow transplant (very horrible scars) but he died less than a year later even with the herbs, treatment in the Uk etc Just a random crisis like any other and all the painkillers could not stop the pain until he gave up on the bed right there.

For how long? When was the last time you laid your eyes on her, and how long has she been symptom-free?

May you encounter respite. @Laivwire. I'm sorry for the actress too. I wish she find happiness again going forward. I wish she remarried, though, as opined by Lifestone (unfortunately, emotions is nothing in face of reality).

May we be safe but it's of extreme importance to always listen to our doctors too. They know better, I bet. Self-therapy or unorthodox herbal medicine man or the likes will only compound things in the long run.

You just assumed that your defence mechanism and plans for marriage are the same. Don't, please. That ordeal alone for a public figure like her is unassummed.
