Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. Yes, you heard me right! Prior to the toppling of President Shehu Shagari in 1983, there were reports of armed robbery here and there but there was zero issue of Kidnapping. Buhari started kidnapping and brought it to the consciousness of Nigerians after he outed Shagari from power.

Shehu Shagari brother in-law, Umaru Dikko, who was the Transport Minister and most powerful man in Government at the time after the President, was accused by the new Military Government of Buhari of stealing 6 billion US dollars of Petroleum profits from the treasury. Umaru Dikko fled to London to avoid arrest.

Looking for a way to arrest Dikko from London, in 1984, Buhari contracted the dreaded Israeli Intelligence Agency, Mossad, to kidnap Dikko and bring him back to Nigeria to face justice. Mossad agents flew from Jerusalem to London and successfully kidnapped Dikko. However, the abduction was witnessed by Dikko's secretary, Elizabeth Hayes, who quickly notified the authorities. Dikko was put in a crate or "diplomatic bag" but the kidnap was ultimately foiled at the Airport due to the fact that Elizabeth Hayes already reported to British Securities who searched the "diplomatic bag" that ordinarily was not supposed to be searched and saw Dikko unconscious.

The incidence saw Nigeria severed diplomatic ties with Britain, expelled British Ambassador in a tit-for-tat move. Buhari also arrested two British Engineers in Nigeria, accused them of stealing a Private Jet and sentenced them to 14 years imprisonment in a kangaroo trial.

True. And he also seized a British Airways plane in retaliation for doing same to Nigeria.The plane and crew left after releasing Nigeria Airways plane impounded in UK

The real question behind those questions I asked is:

Is Buhari the first to Kidnap someone in Nigeria?

Or he is the first to have had it reported in the media?

Prime Minister Balewa was kidnapped from his Bedroom during the Jan 1966 Coup

His body was found a week later in a bush along the Lagos to Abeokuta road

It's a fact that Buhari kidnapped Umaru Dikko.
Dikko was the one that said that since Nigerians have not started eating from the dust_bin, hence not hungry.
