jedisco:LOL!!!! Who is the us?? It's only YOU who is obsessed with this point - I think you're desperate to hear that I + my family hustled for a visa/British kpali 😂 Okay let me put you out of your misery lol. Once upon a time, many years ago, most members of the commonwealth, including my family, were automatically British subjects and could freely live and work in the UK as citizens. Then they changed the laws, mainly because they felt that too many people from certain continents were coming in. (Immigration has been a dicey issue for decades). If your family had moved to the UK before the laws changed, you + your family would likely have been automatically British as well and you wouldn't have needed to "stumble upon" /apply/ hustle for a visa + passport. However I doubt you would have wanted to come here back then as Britain post WW2 (and even as recently as the 80s) was very different to the nice and pleasant land you moved to a few years ago. |

A very poor night for Labour, losing an extremely safe seat less than 1 year after the GE. In contrast, the former Labour govt enjoyed 6 years before their first byelection defeat. Likewise David Cameron had a decent honeymoon period before the Tory party started to decline. It highlights how unpopular Labour currently is and if Starmer doesn't set about delivering further, faster and positive change, or at least get better at communicating the improvements they are making, then they will be the first government in recent times to do only 1 term. People want a dynamic leader and have little patience now for a steady, but slow/ overly cautious, civil servant type. If the current trajectory continues, Labour is likely to have a different leader taking them into the next GE. My prediction is: 2029 GE: Labour leader - Wes Streeting Tory leader - Robert Jenrick Reform leader - Nigel Farage 🤐 |

justwise:True... it's one we should confront but it's not that straightforward. Have you noticed all projects done by Chinese companies which are funded by Chinese loans are of decent quality and most importantly end up being completed? I hate to ask but would you say with reasonable certainty that if we freely borrowed (without terms) say $ 2B for the Kaduna rail, it would have been completed? I hate to say it- some of the terms of the Chinese are infantalising but they also get the goods delivered. This is in contrast wo what we lend from the IMF e.t.c some at higher rates which disappear into thin air. The Chinese companies know they can't take money from their government and not deliver. Also, the host nation manytimes needs to provide some counterpart funding beforehand to demonstrate their interest. The fact that the hands of certain politicians are somewhat tied means they can't inflate the cost by several multiples while asking for the loan to be wired to their individual accounts. We as a nation could address that issue through several means- one could be by local content rules mandating even the Chinese companies to use a majority of Nigerians e.t.c. afterall we issue the visas. We could also negotiate a split of construction companies with local and Chinese companies handling big projects concomitanly but that means we also have to hold local contractors to a high standard and the understanding that the money wouldn't be used to settle boys. |

Zahra29:Easy with the emotion. By 'they' u mean the landlords? So your family were part of the windrush crew who took advantage of British benevolence before that 'loophole' was closed. I gather most of them who claimed to have 'built' Britain started crying foul when the government asked them to go back and build their own country. Hehe.. We stood with them as brothers afterall. Quite comical now seeing some of their descendants say 'we don't want dem migrants in our country'. We all have our 'ojuelegba' afterall. |

jedisco:Lol, my emotion is sunny and blessed ☺️ I'm struggling to make sense of your post. "They" means the British government. It wasn't a loophole; it was the default position from the creation of the CW that allowed most people from the CW to move freely to the UK. Similar to EU freedom of movement, but with automatic citizenship. They then changed the law, similar to Brexit, to make it more difficult to acquire British citizenship. Not everyone who came to the UK was part of the Windrush - many moved to the UK long before the Windrush ship landed, some moved as citizens in later years. You should try to read up a bit on British history - you seem to think that everyone who was here before 1980 was either Windrush or an "anchor baby" 🙄😂 |

Lexusgs430:She ruined herself, except the story is false. People that have had to pause or delay their careers because of childcare don't have sense, is she that have sense that went to bring maid. I keep saying it, whoever likes the African lifestyle too much should just remain there, you shouldn't come here and want to live like you're still there. |

Lexusgs430:Preach low taxes then still have to provide services - that circle can't be squared. Councils as currently structured and funded are designed to remain always in the red, tending towards bankruptcy. The only costs savings available is to lay people off, and when you start laying off the people who are your voters, especially in the rural counties they've won where there are few to no other employment opportunities - well we'll see how that goes. I see they've won KCC, so at least you should be looking forward to council tax so low that you won't mind the amount of money spent on fixing coil springs and shock absorbers. |

Zahra29:The knives are already out for Starmer, and he knows it. But I doubt Streeting will take over - he's currently making heavy weather of his health brief. If Starmer goes, it'll likely be the proper left back again - Grangela is my bet. Labour is leaking away supporters to the left. (Lib Dems and Greens). They won't get far cosplaying Reform-lite (other than by being nasty to immigrants), and trying to face two ways at once isn't making them any headway. |

Lexusgs430:You think this woman got 6yrs behind bars without any collaborating evidence of her crime? Considering her position and her work achievements in legal field i don't think that the British legal system will throw a high profile woman behind bars because of an unsubstantial evidence. |
