Hello all,

Pls I need help from anyone who can provide solid advice on this.

A relative is seeking to process her study visa for masters, she reached out to me saying that she had a former school mate in the same school she intends to go to who said she can help put her through and these are the list of items she told her were needed:

Visa application fee
Biometric fee
Medical fee
Medical express fee
And immigration lawyer charge

Total $3000

Pls can anyone help verify these requirements and help out with the actual charges. Thanks a lot. I really do appreciate. 🙏

Hello,

Please what is the outcome of this application because I have the situation. Final Decision section is updated dated as 02/05/2025 but no decision is made. Also, my portal is updated with biometric validity letter (BVL) and there's an indication that they have started reviewing my eligibility.

Please what does this meanhuh

DTravel:
Hello All. I got email from IRCC this morning and checked the portal. It was updated with biometric validity letter. No other update. I got this letter with my denial in my last application. A decision has been made on your application. You can register on the IRCC tracker , you will find a visa number and visa expiry date there if you are approved or alternatively wait for the decision mail .

Greetings my people, old time Nairalander here based in CA.

I just thought it wise to come seek the counsel of experienced members here as student visa applications is not my forte as compared to PR and TRV visa applications.

Basically, my 15 year old brother in law who is currently in secondary school in Nigeria and finishing this August, just got admission to study Software Development as a 2 year Diploma course in Bows Valley College Calgary with proposed start date in September. We applied to 3 schools including Uni of Calgary who are yet to give a final verdict.

He has a five year visiting visa and was here in CA last year for holidays. Bow valley has sent a document to enable him apply for his study visa. I however know that study visas from Nigeria now is tough hence my enquires/questions below. Please feel free to engage or provide any valuable advice/suggestions and answers.

1. Is the fact that he is applying for Diploma from secondary school okay? Is it a regular and popular study route or will it throw red flags. Otherwise, over here Diploma is quite popular.

2. His Dad (My Father in law) would be sponsoring him for his education in Canada. WHat is the minimum amount that should be in the bank statement.

3. He initially wanted to send the fees to his daughter in Canada so she would be the one to sponsor, but I temporarily advised against it. I feel if the appliocant shows too much ties to his sister or Canada, it may be a red flag. I feel his Dad should be his sponsor. Abi how ona see am? And btw, FIL is a Business General contractor and I worry about what documents he needs to show? (Is Cert of incorporation, Tax cert necessary or should he keep it simple)?

4. Can FIL use his personal bank statement as proof of sponsorship? Or does it have to be his business account where the money is coming from?

5. If I remember correctly, Statement of purpose/intent are usually required during study permit applications. Is this still a cardinal part of the application. Does any one have a draft / example we can read and use as a guide only.

6. I saw someone post that he added an affidavit of return. Please what is this document? Also, how can a 16 year old boy show ties to Nigeria and demonstrate that he would return. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your anticipated response, Looking forward to them.

1. Is the fact that he is applying for Diploma from secondary school okay? Is it a regular and popular study route or will it throw red flags. Otherwise, over here Diploma is quite popular. It is not a problem since the school has evaluated him to be acceptable, but confirm is the course is PGWP eligible.

2. His Dad (My Father in law) would be sponsoring him for his education in Canada. What is the minimum amount that should be in the bank statement. Tuition + at least 1 year living expenses $20,700 and miscellaneous like $4000, pls note the sponsor needs to show how subsequent fees and exp will be paid, to strengthen the application, the living expenses should be sent to the student's account.

Dad as sponsor is better, but he needs to show his source of income with documentary proofs

4. Can FIL use his personal bank statement as proof of sponsorship? Or does it have to be his business account where the money is coming from? Using the personal account is better, but same principle still applies, as he needs to show how the funds in the account were raised and if there are lumps sum deposits, they will be explained.

5. If I remember correctly, Statement of purpose/intent are usually required during study permit applications. Is this still a cardinal part of the application. Does any one have a draft / example we can read and use as a guide only. SOP is still needed, you can check online for samples or search here for a draft

6. I saw someone post that he added an affidavit of return. Please what is this document? Also, how can a 16 year old boy show ties to Nigeria and demonstrate that he would return. Any suggestions? Not needed, it is document that can work against the student during the immigration journey, a mad VO might flag it and question why the student did not return home after studies. his home ties will be work prospects in Nigeria, his family he will return to.

Thanks for your anticipated response, Looking forward to them.

School gave generic reason? That is strange, any way it is to look for other schools, use google or chat gpt to search then go to the sch website to check the requirements.

Thanks Bobomaigida for responding.

Yeah, I will discuss with FIL to be sponsor. Just to be clear, how will the living expenses thingy work out since he doesn't have a bank account in Canada yet. He is barely sixteen.

And yes the course is PGWP eligible.

BTw, I started the study permit application yesterday, just to be clear on what the process entails, and because he is a minor, I have chosen his sister in Canada to be custodian. Has anyone here applied for a minor before?

Finally, I noticed he wouldn't need biometrics as he did it last year but seems he will now require medicals. I remember they stopped upfront medicals for PR applications like a year+ back. How does this work for study permits? Do we upload blank white papers and then later submit medicals via webform or do we arrange for medicals before we can submit the SP application? Thanks.

And yes the course is PGWP eligible. Good

BTw, I started the study permit application yesterday, just to be clear on what the process entails, and because he is a minor, I have chosen his sister in Canada to be custodian. Has anyone here applied for a minor before? That is fine, you would have to fill the custodial details so IRCC can see it

How does this work for study permits? Do we upload blank white papers and then later submit medicals via webform or do we arrange for medicals before we can submit the SP application? Thanks. He does not need another biometric, he can go ahead and do the medicals or leave it till it is requested, not doing it will not stop the application from being submitted, when answering the eligibility questions you will answer medicals have not being done

There is a lot to comb through on the thread. I see no harm if someone knowledgeable or has recently gone through the process can help out. And your question as to why she can't do it herself? Rather irrelevant.

Pls anyone who can help me confirm the requirements below and actual prices for study visa application, ild greatly appreciate. Thanks.

Visa application fee
Biometric fee
Medical fee
Medical express fee

Total - $3000

I really appreciate your insights. I can upload all of these documents as well as pay the complete tuition fee. My investment account reference letter which was attached says i have "unrestricted access to the funds".
Scott99tish:
embarassedI’m Hi,
I saw your other posts that you reapplied and also didn’t request GCMS note, but this is a mistake not advisable.
I understand the pressure and pain from refusal (I was refused once too in early 2021 but, took my time to get it right same year after GCMS note and back to board) Mostly, GCMS note is required to tackle the exact reason for refusal in your next application, even though new reasons could still come up if care is not taken.

In most cases, it’s easy to tackle if you know your mistake with comprehensive LOE and justice in your documentation.
If you haven’t heard from them still, maybe I can still review your previous submission to point out your possible errors:

(1) You are a family man, (wife and son). Even though you’re the only one traveling, IRCC always look at plan of survival for your family in your absence. If you’re traveling alone and having 12m in account ? It’s not even sufficient for 1 year cost of living, and you only paid one semester tuition still.

Let’s assume it is, how will your family survive in your absence ? Did you show your wife is capable of take care of the family without depending on you (the same 12m) ? Like her job, paystub and other related stuffs ?
Also saw that the same 12m was received from your wife (deed of gift). It’s so contradicting that you are capable but it’s still your wife that gifted you without her own source of income !
Align your story that you yourself can believe if you’re in IRCC shoe.

(2) I really don’t see much weight the 16m in investment account hold because can they validate the money is accessible to you when needed ? From the term alone (Investment, mostly tied to time) IRCC is only after money that is accessible to you.

(3) You didn’t mention you submitted your paystub, so I won’t assume you submitted. According to your post, work appointment letter and ID is not enough proof. Comprehensive work history and documentation matters a lot. Even in the future when talking about PR. Some people leave out some work experience during study permit and want to claim point for them in express entry for PR. IRCC are too smart that they will point it out that why was that job not mentioned in your study permit application years back ? So be detailed from beginning in your Canada journey.

(4) You receives annual rental of 2.5m. Good, your letter of explanation/SOP will do justice here. Since the generic refusal letter is mostly finance, maybe home tie is also involved since you don’t know what is even in the officers note. Having a signed rental agreement will help in source of funds, and home tie here. I don’t think you addressed justice here too.

(5) In your new mentioned submission, you added 10K GIC to your application but every other thing remains the same according to you, knowing fully well that you paid only first semester tuition fees!
So do you think you addressed the generic reason for refusal reading this post without knowing the officer note in GCMS huh?

That’s the question you need to ask yourself.
If not; it’s not too late if decision is not made yet. You can still do many justice with webform, in as much as you do not contradict your story.

All the best…

I'm sorry for bringing this up but I just need clarifications from experience bosses here. Due to some "very tough family reasons/issues'', my nephew had to change his name. Middle and surname replaced with a new name. You know, changing name for a female is the norm mostly due to marriage/divorce but for male? isn't clear how embassies see it.

His old passport with the old name, (he never used it to travel before though), has now been replaced with the new names after going through the normal but strenuous processes in Nigeria which took over 18 months, maybe probably because he's a man that's why it took so long, I don't know.
Now,
Primary school,
Secondary school,
Higher Institution,
Nysc are all with the old names.

Will there be a problem when applying for admission or anything abroad as certs/transcripts will be showing old names? Will the affidavit for change of name and newspaper publication cover the above or anything needs be done again? Any boss who has got experience on this should advise please. Thanks and God bless.

Good day everyone
Pls i need advice on tuition payment.
I got an offer for MSc Bioinformatics at Northeastern University Toronto, I want to make payment for my PAL, is it advisable that my friend who is in canada can make the payment for me ? My mum who is my sponsor will send the money to her for payment.
Will it have any effect on my visa application?

No, there won't be any complications. All he needs to do is continuously attach the documents for the name change, such as a publication, affidavit, etc.

No, it doesn't have any effect on the visa; how your tuition was paid has no effect. Ensure you attach proof of payment.
