These figures are related to a V6 car's fuel injection system, specifically the Fuel Trim values. Here's what they mean:

*STFT (Short Term Fuel Trim)*

- Bank 1: -13% ( slightly lean mixture, meaning the engine is using less fuel than expected)
- Bank 2: -20.03% (more significantly lean mixture, indicating the engine is using even less fuel than expected)

*LTFT (Long Term Fuel Trim)*

- Bank 1: -0.8% (almost neutral, indicating the engine is using the expected amount of fuel)
- Bank 2: 52.3% (very rich mixture, meaning the engine is using significantly more fuel than expected)

In summary:

- Bank 1 is running slightly lean (using less fuel) in the short term, but almost neutral in the long term.
- Bank 2 is running significantly lean in the short term and very rich in the long term.

This could indicate issues like:

- Faulty fuel injectors
- Clogged air filters
- Vacuum leaks
- Ignition problems
- Sensor malfunctions

It's essential to have a professional mechanic investigate these discrepancies to determine the root cause and perform the necessary repairs.

Maybe you made a mistake here sir, I think negative fuel trims points to higher fuel consumptions and the Ecu is trying to subtract that

Boss good day, I might be stand corrected but negative fuel Trim mean more air in the system than fuel. This is just normal addition and subtraction of either more fuel or less fuel...

If you need more clarity pls do ask

RX 330 with locked up wheel at start up.

RX 330 with a wheel lock up at initial movement, scanning shows ABS not communicating which makes all the wheel speed sensor not giving any readings.

Solution
Replacing the ABS module and all the wheel speed sensor was all that was needed

Honda Accord 2009 Excessive Oil Shortage

Had a customer complain about his Honda accord 2009 oil shortage and other issues with the driving.

1. Top up oil twice before the next oil change (6000 miles) - using synthetic oil
2. Sluggish in movement

Diagnosis

After running a scan and physical check also driving to recreate the instances - check engine light was complaining of Catalyst below threshold and the sluggish response was like something blocking the exhaust.

Solution

Replacing the piston and rings
Replacing the Catalyst and oxygen sensors

Greetings to all Auto experts here.
My 2AZ Engine is shorting oil and there is sign of oil in the radiator. Looking at the cost of replacing the engine, should I rebuild the engine and if I rebuild, will it last long?

Please advise me.

The rebuilding depend on your mechanic. But my own professional advice will be to change the engine totally. Good day

Camry 2002 Model Persistent Power Steering Issue

Toyota Camry 2002 model also known as big daddy was brought in with complaints from customer of having to apply some pressure to turn the steering at start up or even traffic.

After changing the pump 4 times and pressure hose and the serpentine belt also from different mechanics with no changes, the steering only soften up when on motion.

Diagnosis

I have to lift the car front wheel on an axle stand then start the car and turn the steering which was also hard even when the tyres are off the ground.

Steering rack
Steering pump

Solutions

After replacing the steering rack and pump and all other procedures are taken I personally drove the car it was different and relaxing until I put on the AC while driving and the RPM drops to 400, the steering goes a bit hard anytime I was standstill.

At this point I decided to perform Tuneup service which includes cleaning

The throttle body
Plugs
Noozle
Fuel filter
Air filter
After the tuneup the RPM jumps back to 700 after loading which makes the steering turning more enjoyable.

P107B – Tacoma/Highlander 2017 – 2022 – Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (Low)/ Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor ‘B’ Circuit/Stuck Range Performance

This codes comes for these 2 brands and on diagnostic tools it might show different narration.

Had a Tacoma with high MPG. Scanning shows P107B, which is fuel related issues. After series of test driving I told the customer to opt for full Tune up Service @122k miles. Which includes replacing all these parts;

Spark plugs
Servicing the Noozle
Air Filter
Replacing the Fuel Rail Pressure sensor
Replacing the Fuel Pump and Filter
Draining the Engine oil and filter
Brake Pads
After Tuneup the code was reset and also driven to see if it will come back up, but for close to 45minutes of driving within the possible scenarios it was confirmed to be ok and the MPG is back to normal.

According to Toyota forum, replacing the fuel pump was the right thing to do.

I have never imagined I will see an engine with 4 different spark plug like the one you took out from that Toyota.

Tell the customer never to go back to his old mechanic.

Don’t blame the mechanics, most time when you tell a customer one or two cylinders are misfiring the next solution they give to you is buy just one or two spark plugs

Toyota 2018 Transmission Failure

Toyota Camry 2018 model has been a reputable mid size car with a reliable engine and fuel efficiency is top notch. A comfortable ride and good resale value.

But the transmission has been notoriously embarrassing and pocket draining.

Some of the complains are

1: Car hesitates to speed up from a full stop or while in motion.

2: RPM’s go over 3000 before car reacts (2-3 seconds delay) , dangerous specially when taking curves or merging into traffic.

3: I feel a “hiccup” like movement while in motion (sometimes).

4: Car hesitates to shift or shifts with excessive power.

5: Downshifts and loss of acceleration (it happens erratically)

6: I heard a soft metal-to-metal “knock” sound when I lift my foot from gas pedal while in motion.

And some other software issues like the brake system or TCMC – Toyota Complete Maintenance Care, ICS – Intelligence Clearance Sonar System.

Which has to be replace with an improved parts by Toyota.

Corolla – P2195, P0171, P0420, P0031, P2238

Corolla with fuel efficiency below threshold with all these codes

P2195 – The oxygen sensor (O2 sensor) signal is biased or stuck lean

P0171 – System too lean bank 1

P0420 – Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold

P0031 – The heater for this sensor has a low resistance reading

P2238 – O2 Sensor Positive Current Control Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor 1

These are the codes and simple meaning.

Symptoms

Rough idling
Black smoke at start up and intermittently
Bad fuel efficiency
Spark plug with black soot within a short period of time.

Solutions

Running a comprehensive diagnosis

Here are parts replaced

Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor
Oxygen sensor (the sensor after catalyst)
MAF – Mass Air Flow Sensor
A spacer for the oxygen sensor

After replacing all the part and wiping all the codes, drove the car for an extended period of time. The code never came back neither was the black smoke or rough idling.

Hyundai Elantra 2012 with a knock engine
Had a customer that came for alternator issue, after fixing the alternator noticed a ticking sound from the engine and not getting full power from the engine.

I started troubleshooting by running a full tune up service and few ideas of Likely issue. The customer took it off my hand.

Few days later I got a call from her that I need to check up on her car, getting there the car was in a mechanic workshop with a knocked engine.

Symptoms

Ticking sound/Tappet noise
Bad fuel economy
Engine vibration
It stalls and sputters
Difficulty in accelerating from stop
Diagnosis

At initial diagnosis I told her it was a piston slap that was common with those brands and year and solution is engine swap or we rebuild.

The customer took it to another mechanic where they worked their magic and got a knock engine.

Solution

Replacing the engine
