yet Africans keep bragging that their natural "healthy" food is making them strong not knowing that we are fooling ourselves.
Maybe you're the one fooling yourself by agreeing with them. My mum died at age 90yrs last year April. My paternal grand father died over 100yrs in 1996. My maternal grandmother died 89yrs in 1987. My grandpa's had never visited hospital in his entire life, except when he had hernia and got operated. My dad is still alive. He's never visited hospital before. The only time he visited was when he had a surgeries in his leg. .

It's same scenarios in other towns and villages in Nigeria. These western people don't like hearing the truth about what africa is really made up. They ran away during covid-19, thinking Nigerians would be dying like fowl as they told them, due to our poor health system. Some of them couldn't return to Nigeria to work. The death they were running away from, met them in their countries they ran to. Covid took their lives

Baba! How do you know your grand father date of birth, even your mummy of 90years. Most of all 100years, don't really know their age, their children will just give them number.

If you really want to debunk their age (this method I use) ask the age of their 1st born, once difference is more than 20years, I suspect speculated age

Those who reside in villages or small towns also suffer, if we refer to our country.

Life belongs to God. However Medicare is very crucial. In medical emergencies, the difference between life and death can be access to proper medical care. Those countries have it in abundance. For example in the UK, in emergencies, ambulances arrive in 3 minutes with doctors and nurses. In Nigeria, we look for okada/danfo/keke Marwa that take ages to arrive. Get to public hospitals and there are either no beds or Doctors on duty.

Those countries have very advanced medical systems that make life easier for the people.

Social services play a huge role too. With infrastructures that make life easier for people, then expect better lives.

What about availability of food and money in the pockets of citizens? For example, in Nigeria, there’s no rule about the feeding pattern. You can wake up in the morning, eat eba and egusi soup with ogunfe. You eat beans/bread or amala or fufu. You get the stress of jumping from one bus to the other and then no money for lunch. You get back home in the evening to the same morning combination, with filled up belly to bed. You begin to develop Esophagitis, Duodenitis and Pangastritis without knowing. The day you eat Sharwama, you feel like an acting big man. Two meals a day, maybe a bottle of coke and gala. In those countries, there are rules about what to eat. No one wakes up to eba. Citizens have meals three times a day. They have snacks and fruits in between, with no stress.

What about living in fear at night. What about moving from place to place. Insecurity everywhere. That’s the challenge of West and Central Africans. Poverty and horrible leaders.

They had their certificates of birth still intact(western british Nigeria). If you've been to ekiti, you'd understand what education means to every home. My uncle(my mum's elder brotherr) was the 1st medical Dr in the town. My mum was the flower girl when he was getting married. From there you could tell if they're educated or not. Ekiti used to be the most educated state in Nigeria, mind you. They all had their birth details intact. When my mum died last year. We searched her box and saw her baptismal card, in which her age was written as a young girl. I'm from an educated family.

Just like wole soyinka, my grandpa and dad never believed in orthodox drugs. They take agbo. I recommended a doctor to my dad and he sent him away

Rich people in Nigeria don't live longer either.Nigerians living in those advanced countries have a relatively low life expectancy. While money or country of residence are important, individual efforts remains a vital factor to living healthier and longer.Exercise remains the most potent tool and it is up to everyone to do that regularly,if we want to live longer.

Rich people don’t live in fear? What are the indices to measure safe societies? Surely the indices do not include the rich moving around with too many security men. Those who do that are the fearful. The rich. They have the drive mentality because they are the same persons who make societies insecure.

Take a look around some countries and you’ll find Prime Ministers walking freely on the streets, with no escort, no security aides everywhere. Can even councillors move around alone in our states, not to talk of LGA chairmen and above?

Sure, exercising remains crucial and we must all put it to practice.

I hope you realise that life expectancy is not based solely on your individual experience or that of your paternal and maternal parents. Your grandfather may be 90 years old, but where are his classmates and friends today? I bet 80% of them are gone.

Don't let anyone lie to you. Life expectancy in the 1940s, 1960s, and so on was so low that it barely exceeded 47 years. It is not just about your grandfather in Ekiti, but the numerous deaths in the North and across Nigeria. People were dying like chickens from polio, malaria, measles, and other diseases.

Today, while we have managed some of those viral diseases, we are still struggling with maternal mortality, road crashes, terrorism, etc.

In a country where more youths and children are dying compared to other age groups, what do we expect?

Whenever you're compelled to criticise Nigeria's life expectancy rate, just look around and ask yourself: how many of my neighbours, church members, or classmates have both parents and all siblings alive? Your findings will be shocking. Then go ahead and imagine what people in Benue villages, Plateau, and the North generally are going through. You will see a young guy or girl of 27 and both parents are dead. Many in their 40s have just one parent left. Some families lost a sibling/child at birth, etc. This is the story across board.

Ranked: Top 25 Countries With the Highest Life Expectancy

Life expectancy is one of the clearest indicators of any country’s quality of life and overall well-being.

The world’s average life expectancy, estimated to be around 73 years in 2024, has been increasing steadily, up from 66 years in the year 2000. However, some countries stand out for their exceptional longevity.

This infographic highlights the top 25 countries by average life expectancy at birth, while also breaking it down by gender to show the gaps between female and male populations. The data comes from the UN’s World Population Prospects portal.

Where Do People Live the Longest?
The majority of the top 25 countries by life expectancy, a total of 16 countries, are in Europe. The small, rich country of Monaco tops the list with residents living an average of 86.5 years, and women living more than 88 years.

Many of the countries where people live the longest also have high per-capita healthcare spending as they improve access and quality of their healthcare systems.

Close behind Monaco are San Marino (85.8 years) and Hong Kong (85.6 years), both of which offer high standards of living and healthcare systems. Other high-ranked Asian countries include Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, marking a total of four countries from the continent in the top 10.

Additionally, small European countries are prevalent on the list. High-income nations such as Andorra, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Malta, and the Vatican are renowned for their low crime rates and high quality of life.

Meanwhile, Australia is the only country outside of Europe and Asia to crack the top 10, with a life expectancy of 84.1 years.

Do Women Live Longer than Men?
Women outlive men in every country on the top 25 list.

Across all 25 countries, women live an average of 4 years longer than men. The gender life expectancy gap is especially large in places like France (5.6 years), South Korea (6.0 years), and Japan (6.1 years).

This gender gap is largely due to a mix of biological and behavioral factors—newborn boys and youths have higher mortality rates than girls, and women are also less likely to engage in high-risk behaviors as compared to men.

I agree on some of your points. Natural disaster, war, epidemics, etc, could be great factors hampering life expectancy, especially up north , where people are exposed to harsh climatic condition, terrorism and poor access to portable water. But are you aware that, death rates are low in the same north among the elderly?

My mums age mate are still around. One of them who came for her burial died a few weeks after. Some people even attributed it to mama's shock on her body. There's another one, who was buried last month, also in her 90s. The elderst choke told me that the moment she told her she was coming to ekoti for our mum's burial, her mood changed and she entered her room looking sob. A few months after, she too died. I was even blaming her for informing her mama of her planned trip. Their mum grew up with my mum. They had pictures together sef. In that town, I still know her mates who are alive but only very few. 90 years is a good age. There are several who are in their 70s and 80s who also came for mama's burial. They called her auntie.

Largely, life expectancy is very low in our cities. There's no doubt about this and it's due to many factors as you know. Stress contributes to this significantly. But in towns and villages, the majority of those you'd see are old people. I don't believe in those statistics.
