Despite religious teachings, courtship usually is how to know if partners are compatible. He learnt the hard way. 18 months is kinda short for a marriage though, hopefully they didn't bring a kid into a now broken home during that period.

Of course it's advisable to know your would-be partner's strengths and weaknesses. Afterall, it's not everyone you are meant to marry. Marrying some people will make life tiresome for you. Having said that, the concept of courtship in this age is rife with immorality. People that want free unfettered sex sometimes use courtship as a camouflage. Also, being a church goer, pastor or bishop doesn't necessarily mean total obedience to biblical teachings.

But for marriage to work, both party must learn to always improve on everything especially when your partner calls your attebtion to it.. Be ready for corrections and learn to communicate freely with respect for each other...

Many people hate corrections..I call them inferiority complex mindset sets of people...

This is the only way to hold a marriage in a loving else una go become roommates or divorce like your friend... Marriage will be extremely hard if these are not in place...And if both started off with quarreling and fights the marriage needs a lot of work to become sweet because the quarrel will stay in their psyche

Marriage is an agreement. If you both communicate the roles you will each occupy in marriage, sign a contract to that end, and ensure you work towards keeping your end of the bargain, then fine. Never place your bet on what you think or have seen at one time or heard alone. Why? Because individuals have a right to change... we are humans... and we don't necessarily do it the way others expect us to.
