I don't believe in African traditions let alone the traditions of my own culture. Don't go around assuming every African does. It's disrespectful to do so. undecided
Are you an African man?

Contracts can be updated every anniversary and so on. It does not have to be static, but it is better than nothing at all. Communications and agreements are better when backed by written agreements. That much we have learnt, and this model works even in family and romantic relationships. undecided
Honestly, you don make me dey laugh for this my break🤣😂. You sound like a hedge fund manager with marriage, I mean no disrespect 🙏🏿. It's just that it's not often you see some Nigerians speak with so much 'logic' about life issues. We are human beings, some certain parts of life is to be experienced and not because you signed an agreement that forces you to experience it.

No big deal, people divorce every day. Better have a divorce than an unhappy marriage.

Your statement immediately reminds me of the many people out there who lend money to friends and family members without written proof of such a transaction. They claim that the trust, or is it a bond between them, should be enough to carry the agreement. But, after some time has passed, many of these same people come back wondering why their debtors would not pay them back the money owed. Some treat them like beggars when they go asking to be paid the money borrowed. When such people complain, I can't help but see them as fools who deserve the treatment they keep getting.😐

Sigh! You are free to continue experiencing your unsigned realities with others. It's just that...don't complain about it later on, abeg! 😐😐

Again, I disavowed African traditions from when I began realizing how insane many of them are. Plus, I didn't get a vote on any of the ideas, and I don't see the logic in living by standards that do not benefit me or my future in any way. undecided

Your personal beliefs doesn't negate the efficacy of the African heritage.

. Pay attention! 🙄🙄

The key here is that not all Africans believe in your African traditions, so do not go around imposing your traditions on others in relationships and marriage. The assumed efficacy of ideas you hold is your personal belief. Make certain that you clearly draw out the details of your expectations and roles in every situation when dealing with others. undecided

A relationship between two human beings is an agreement. Yes, that relationship you have with your parents, your siblings, your beau, your friends... all agreements with contract/agreement details explicitly or implicitly stated. undecided

So if we are not having sex before marriage... I am not supposed to expect sex in marriage??

there some basics that should be in marriage without signing an affidavit and police report about it during courtship...... I mean..... why would someone not cook and clean in their own home...?? Y'all just like making marriage look harder than it is
This argument is totally irrational in this issue.
When courting, you're supposed to know if your girlfriend can be your wife.
You dated a person that cannot cook as a girlfriend and your expect her to cook as a wife.
If she can't do those basic things and you went ahead to marry her only to divorce her, then you are the phool.

He deserved to be blocked . That is not the time to be a smarty pant. Someone opened up about his divorce and you are quick to judge him . That's stupid!

The moment you accept that not all people are built or conditioned like you , the easier life becomes .

I have never believed that people are built and conditioned the same as I, though. I have instead realized that when dealing with people, it is best to do so wisely rather than not to. undecided

It's irrational to u because u don't get the context off my comment...
The context is "basic expectation" in marriage

.. I don't think I have to sign an agreement or first ask a girlfriend I want to marry if she will let me fvck or if she likes to sleep in dirty places?? These are basics......even if they are not basic to a person a little compromise is expected in marriage, especially when what is expected is not a big deal...

See the problem is not cooking and cleaning or any other type of sh!t......pple are just unkind, unloving towards their partners, and that's the part they pretend about during courtship....and later make them start to say I can't do this or that inside the marriage, because their heart isn't really there

... because there's no how you will be kind and loving towards someone and you won't be willing to even try to do things for them even if you are not good at it...

I wondered what they were doing while courting not to have discussed roles and expectations in the home. Should he choose to remarry, he should remember what courtship is for.
lol. There's no standard formula for these things bro; as a good girlfriend can become a bad wife.

Who washes a sneaker in a washing machine...

It takes days to dry that way

A dumbo
But normally a man should be able to wash his sneakers by himself.

Marriage is something else, courtship can be deceiving. Most time both parties rushes into marriage ignoring all the red flags hoping marriage will correct them.

When I see couples celebrating 20yrs anniversary I know one of them must be very tolerant. It's not that easy for man and woman from different backgrounds to blend without issues coz everything about the are "words and opposites"

[quote author=DaGC post=135624058]Despite religious teachings, courtship usually is how to know if partners are compatible. He learnt the hard way. 18 months is kinda short for a marriage though, hopefully they didn't bring a kid into a now broken home during that period.

Better luck to them in their future

Forget religious teachings for a moment—courtship is incredibly important. It's the period where you truly get to know each other: your likes and dislikes, whether you can live together peacefully, and how well you can handle each other's flaws. During courtship, disagreements are bound to happen, and it's through these moments that you learn if your partner is forgiving, kind, or has habits you can’t tolerate. Simply spending weekends together isn’t enough to understand one another deeply. Marriage is a mix of sweetness and challenges.

This is true however, if basic expectations like cooking and cleaning wasn't properly addressed, then what were they discussing? There is a possibility that she could have hinted him or he had noticed it but thought when they get married she will do it. If it is a scenario like this, it is his fault. You don't assume when making such decision.

That shows you how unreasonable he is and that made to ignore the cooking and washing stuffs during the courtship
