omoadeleye:Can you show evidence the family say what you're accusing them of? I don't think you know oil production was stopped throughout Ogoni land after the death of Saro Wiwa |

immortalcrown:Pls was Tnubu the one that ordered the killings of Ken and 8 others? Was Tinubu the president at that time? Was Tinubu himself not a victim of Abacha brute regime? Is Gej not from same region with Ken but never honoured him? Now Tinubu did what no president was willing to do yet you guys talks anyhow. |

Exoneration typically comes from a court based on a finding of innocence, while a pardon is usually granted by an executive authority, such as a president or governor, as an act of clemency. The President can ask the court to do that part. |

The Saro Wiwa family and their sympathizers must tread carefully in other not to lose public empathy. No amount of protestations would bring the dead persons back to life. That they were honoured with national awards is a testament of their innocence. Insisting on holding the current FG to ransom is a no-no. Let bygones be bygones in the spirit of true forgiveness and oneness of purpose. @hotseat |

WizardOfNG:Instead of state pardon it should be state apology and restitution. How can you pardon the innocent? Pardon for what crime exactly? You pardon the guilty not the innocent. So tinubu is banking on emotions for political gain. But zombies with no option will always dance to the gallery sheepishly. |

immortalcrown:Nigerian Goverment did not kill Saro-Wiwa. An unlected military dictator did. If you do not understand this basic difference, to insist the Abacha military junta is same as a democratically elected Government, who then do you think you can con pretending you genuinely care about the Ogoni 9? The reality of your talk, where you wish to insist a coup-installed military head of State and an elected President are "Nigerian governments", show you are another person prejudiced against PBAT snd determined to never see good in anything he does to he extent of deploying deperate lies to demonize him. Though not perfect, we have been in an elective democracy since 1999. The President is in office to acts on behalf of Nigeria always. Grow up. He has done the right thing in the spirit of reconciliation and atonement. Mr.President has done what is correct and fitting, as would be done in any nation of the World, over events that happened before his time. With executive power, he has now moved to show his decency on behalf of all well-meaning Nigerians. Cry forever if you wish.

WizardOfNG:You wrote all this without attempting to answer the question I ask you. This clearly shows that you have realised how stupid you sound in your first response. If Ken was not killed by the government, what is the forgiveness about? |

yongg:Can you listen to yourself? Resurrect Abacha and hang him then. Miscarriage of justice in the past can only be addressed by acts of exoneration and reparation in future by those not connected with the events. Your talk is oxymoronic because if you punish or harm a man wrongly and then die, you cannot come back to regret or undo your action. It is those who have outlived you that can do the right thing and make that can applogize to that man through acts of exonerating him.publicly. Even a bright kid of ten can tell you this is no act of forgiveness. It is admission that wrong was done to to Ogoni nine who were not guilty of a crime. The honour bestowed on them is then the act of reparation on behalf of Nigeria. Simple. |

immortalcrown:You're irredeemable. What answer can be given to a question underpinned by the ludicrous depiction of a military dictator who seized power, via a coup, to be same as a democratically elected President? Don't you know you exposed yourself as unintelligent and functionally illiterate when you termed the Abacha military Junta as a "Nigerian Govermment" you then say is same as the PBAT Government? Abeg enrol in primary school four evening tuition and come back to nairaland after completing SSS.

MrSly:Which court declared them innocent? Pardon is not about innocence but cleansing of record, a president does not pardon based on guilt or innocence! |
| Re: Saro-Wiwa’s Family Reacts To National Honour, Pardon From Tinubu by WizardOfNG: 7:06pm On Jun 14, 2025 |
MrSly:State apologies can only come from after a competent court sitting to retry the case and then declare the Ogoni 9 not guilty of what Abacha junta court convicted them of. What you are asking Tinubu to do is usurp the power of the judiciary and be judge over a past case. Even if such a case was openly flawed, only a retrial can declare it so not an announcement from Tinubu, a politicoan, that amount to abuse of power. Have you not wondered why Femi Falani, who is one of Nigeria's most distinguished lawyers and legal representative of Ken Saro-Wiwa and others back then, not protested this development or ask of the FG what tou are demanding? Coukd it be that it is clear to Falana that Tinubu has done what is in his power, as head of the executive arm , to do? |

abbey621:Same point I made above. Only a Court retrial can overturn past conviction to declare the Ogoni 9 innocent. Not Mr.President. Tinubu has done what is in his power to do. We are adult here and sad to see some making senseless argument because of one bias or the other. |
| Re: Saro-Wiwa’s Family Reacts To National Honour, Pardon From Tinubu by Pacesetter123(m): 7:17pm On Jun 14, 2025 |
In as much as I commend PBAT for the conferment of national honours on the Ogoni 9,I want him to take the recommendation of that Mr Bassey and Ken Saro Wiwa Foundation. The right thing to do is to exonerate them of any false accusations the military dictator leveled against them. Granting them pardon is an attempt to side with the dictator in that their jungle justice. I know the president has good intention for doing what he did,but he should hit the advice of those calling for exoneration instead of pardon. |

WizardOfNG:Easy tiger! we are saying the same, how could you not have seen that perspective in what I wrote though? I do not see forgiveness and exoneration as the same. This is where exoneration applies not forgiveness. |
