Acidosis:
Who says you have to make just one choice? You can have both.
Human brain and understanding is like PC RAM.
It has limited capacity at every moment in time.
You have to learn and discharge it small-small.
Doing both might be too overloaded for OP at the moment.

I.T please. Get job, use the money to pay house rent and get independent fast.
Masters is just unnecessary English.
When your head is very balanced, you will use the I.T skills to download all the books
you would have needed for your Masters and read them at your pleasure.
At the end of your reading, you'll still find out that the Masters books were all useless in the first place.
God bless you.

Making money first is the Koko 😊
U can't have Msc and still stiving to pay rent and to afford basic needs ..

IT skills all d way

Which course you study self?

Is it everyone that can do cybersecurity and also function in it

If the course you study has some iT application to it that's the one you may should venture into

Go find job, abeg

Nothing compares the experience one build from working - study and all these theoretical acquisitions does little to one's knowledge. The work experience, skills and competence I acquired after just one year as a Graduate Management Trainee beats the five years I spent in the Nigerian university
Re: M.sc Or IT Skills by Nobody: 1:24pm On Jun 17, 2025
Go get IT skills please then add project management to it when you solid.

These tech firms don’t give a hoot about degrees again. Once they find you good, you will get the job.

You have all the degrees but no real time experience. How you think all those Indians and Filipinos dominating, it’s because they have hands on real time experiences. They later add degrees when it’s demanded of them for promotion or moving upwards.

Degree is not worth it again in some professions. It’s just a waste of time.

You're probably not useful to them or the society if two Masters isn't.
Re: M.sc Or IT Skills by AK481(m): 1:30pm On Jun 17, 2025
as a fresher , get IT skill but not cybersecurity .

my opinion , cybersecurity training wont get you a job at entry level .

system analyst or system admin/Network analyst or network admin is the better entry level skill .
after which you can deviate to security .

And you used your clear eyes to select both of them!.
I have 1 Masters and it's paining me too.
Most of what I learnt in it can be found on the internet now.
If to say I know, I for just stay here, buy data, download PDF and read in peace.
This is another angle to it... Education is not necessary what you learn academically within the 4 walls of a class room or from an established and recognised academic institution, but of what and how your enlighten your mind with through your 5 sensory organs such that your become better off it through your knowledge, character, morals and wisdom.

Everybody is saying go for IT, go for IT...

How many of you are in IT?

You guys think it IT is where you'd just enroll into one course and within 2 years you'll start cashing out millions, or so these social media IT gurus make it seem.

First first... IT no be beans
You need certifications which come with a very crazy price tag..
Then you need serious referals to get jobs.

IT isn't as rossy as you all think of it.
Re: M.sc Or IT Skills by excelchips(m): 1:50pm On Jun 17, 2025
Masters is good but it is practically useless if intend to use it to secure job but Masters can be fine to build your career as you age.
IT skills, Yes good. IT jobs are increasingly needed nowadays but you have to choose wisely, most especially with the advent of Aritificial Intelligence. If you are considering Cybersecurity, it is good, that means you are planning to study widely and try to specialise as soon as possible after getting the cyber fundamental knowledge and focus on an area as cybersecurity is damn wide. Purse IT skills that will still remain relevant in decades to come as things are fast changing. Using myself as case study, IT skills has been tremendously helpful in my career journey though, I have a master in Nigeria (Master in Informtion Technology) and another in the UK (Masters in Cybersecurity) both have not in any way helped in terms of securing job but they have make my status look good, helped in a lot of way especially scalling hurdles in many ways.
Lastly, I will advise you can purse IT skills now, when you have secured job and comfortable with what you are doing, if you still have passion for study you can get Masters then.

There should be masters degree for the cyber security you are eyeing. Thats like 2 birds gone with slingshot.
This is true if you're not doing the master's in a Nigerian University.
Re: M.sc Or IT Skills by Jerrite(m): 2:26pm On Jun 17, 2025
If you are planning for a career in academics, go for the master's. Except for an academic career, msc does not really give any competitive edge nowadays, especially in Nigeria. Pick an IT niche and develop. If you plan to do msc, don't do it in Nigeria because the time it'll take you to complete one here, you'd have been grounded in several competitive IT skills

As a fresh graduate, why do you want a masters? It's pointless as it adds nothing to your profile. You don't have work experience, so you will be an expensive hire for any company when there are equally available bachelors who are affordable. Ask yourself, apart from a pure water MSc, what differentiates you from the layman bachelor, another pure water degree, out there?

You need work experience and as for cybersecurity, you need GLOBALLY RECOGNISED certifications to get an entry level job. So many young people I see raving about cybersecurity are very ignorant about the employability prospects in that field.

tech goes beyond it. You can become a drine operator and help farms harvest or spray crops. You can train models to identify microbe in labs faster than himan can ever do. Tech is too wide to be ocerrated.

Information Technology in cyber security is an amazing course as I am a (retired) certified ethical hacker's/ penetration tester. I will only advice you if the funds are available, try enrolling for the cyber security courses in India or Pakistan.

Speaking from experience.

The Masters is cheap.. Cyber security isn't.. Don't be fooled you need to spend a million plus in the learning process before you can be able to land a good job... Starting cyber security from scratch until you reach the level of which you have a valid cert to certify your skills... Lol bro that's expensive shit.. It could be cheaper but not less than 900k 1m
