The Ezu River runs from Ugwuoba through Amansea, near the border between Enugu and Anambra States, and empties into the River Niger. On January 19th, 2013, the people of Amansea woke up to a gory sight. Over 30 young men, stripped down their shorts, had been executed and dumped into the River As soon as the news broke, virtually everyone in Anambra had a rough idea who the men were, and who killed them. There are only two groups in Igbo land that would kill that much people, the herdsmen or the armed forces. The leader of MASSOB, Ralph Uwazuruike, raised the alarm that the men were members of his group that had been rounded up by special anti-robbery squad(SARS), and murdered by them. He even released their names The then Governor of Anambra, Peter Obi, cut short a foreign trip and rushed back to Anambra where he ordered that the bodies be recovered, and full scale investigation be done. He also offered a 5 million Naira reward for anyone who had information leading to the arrest of the killers. Naturally, the Nigerian Police did nothing. Asking someone to investigate a crime they commited, will lead no where. The Senate sent a committee to investigate the killings but they came back with nothing other than the autopsy report that said the men had been shot elsewhere, transported to the River, and dumped there. Obi finished his term the following year, left office, and the matter was swept under the carpet without anyone being brought to book for the Ezu River killings. However, Nigerians got tired of SARS, which had turned into a notorious terror group involved in extra-judicial killings, extortion, enforced disappearances and torture. In 2020, ENDSARS protest led to the group being disbanded The Ezu River killings resurfaced again in 2023, not because some people were questioning this horrible incident, but because they wanted to use it to bring down Obi, who was running for president. The same people have started using it again for 2027. Obi is not responsible for Ezu River incident same as no Governor can be held accountable for the atrocities of SARS in their State. Obi has no control over the Nigerian Police Force Rather than be very concerned that your own Police force engages in the killing of people yet to be charged for any crime. Rather than be concerned that your own Police is actively engaged in extra-judicial killings. Rather than be alarmed that your law enforcement agents are involved in such criminality, you people are more interested in blaming Obi for what he knows nothing about? Terrible! Ezu River killings should be something of a national shame. It's not something people should use for political profit. |

Who was the state chief security officer? Who called the police on the youth? Why didn't Obi make the type of noise is making all over the internet now then? Benue massacre for the past 2 weeks yet refused to say anything about the killing in Enugu Shouldn't charity begin at home? |

A well known group of people in Nigeria led by a drug baron who are known by this symbol 🌽 🌽🌽🌽🌽 will use anything for propaganda. As backstabbers and treacherous individuals, deflecting attention while doing evil is a way of life and a survival strategy for them. |

Warrior99:The president was called out because he didn’t immediately show seriousness and concern like other serious leaders of the world do. If he had been to the state same day and ordered arrest of the criminals or resignation of the IGP and police commissioner for failure of intelligence and protection of the people, that would’ve been good leadership. But of course we know you’re his ardent follower so anything he does is good for you. |

Sharpsharp00123:Is it your age that is always making u say rubbish We did not point finger to him.We accused apc led federal government which SW president was part of it.The governor can not order CP of a state even if he is chief security officer of the state. The CP is only answerable to IG.The IG is answerable to the president alone. Therefore obi or lagos governor could not order any shooting. The shooting was arranged by SW president who was part of apc led federal government. He did it to protect his business interest and lagos as his family property This why seyi will be the next governor of lagos. He is currently the VP |

Let's be objective in whatever we do here. As much as I may have supported Peter Obi previously, the fact remains that those killings happened under him as the Chief Security officer of his state. Even more so, James Nwafor the notorious killer in charge of Awkwuzu SARS was reportedly Peter Obi's CSO at some point. He led an operation to demolish a hotel belonging to supposed kidnappers. Obi couldn't say he wasn't aware of that. Obi can't say that everything Nwafor was doing, he Peter Obi wasn't aware. That will be a massive lie. Under whose government did Nwafor disappear and go into hiding? Why as CSO of his state Obi never called for an independent high-powered panel of inquiry to find out exactly what was going on in Awkwuzu SARS? Even when allegations of organ trafficking were rife? Was James Nwafor acting on the instructions of Peter Obi? Where is James Nwafor anyways? https://www.nairaland.com/6186765/how-obiano-facilitated-transfer-james https://www.nairaland.com/6182404/armageddon-called-awkuzu-sars-under The more you read about Nwafor the more you ask yourself what kind of person Peter Obi is to have maintained a working relationship with this man. Mind you, Obi facilitated his transfer from Anambra state so that he will not have to answer for his atrocities. Because he can't answer without implicating Obi. Read for yourself.

Why shouldn't Nigerians blame Obi for the Ezu river killings that happened during his tenure as Governor in Anambra State?. Weren't you guys all over the internet blaming Asiwaju Tinubu (now PBAT), a private citizen residing in Lagos at the time for a massacre at Lekki tollgate that never happened, no proof, no evidence till date.. Hypocrites.. a massacre that happend in Anambra with dead bodies of over 40 Igbo youths floating in Ezu river should not be queried but an alleged massacre at Lekki that never occured could be amplified by haters of development. Only God knows how.many more they've butchered in secret in same Anambra that didn't make the news. |
