Prior to the email, did you ever send email to sow concern about low parsonage and offer any advice on what they can do better. Not justifying your sack but ...you may want to approach things differently next time
Most Nigerians don’t think like this , it’s rare for you to find a staff that will, ‘how do we increase revenue here?’

All they know is salary this and salary that.

With such an amazing talent you have, you suppose to look for jobs that pay well outside the shores of Nigeria, Nigeria no follow for top payers that is what you should understand.... Nigeria treats there employees like slave ..
Re: My Wrongful Termination by fineboynl(m): 10:27am On Jun 21, 2025
You admitted there were no sales and still asking why you were not paid. Just pack pack your bag and go.

2 weeks is enough to know if the place you are working s making enough sales to cover expenses like salary and others.

Your management is looking for people that will help build the place and not people that come for salary.

Unfortunately you are the wrong person for the job

Sorry for quoting you but don't encourage him.
To the op, I know it's not easy working without pay but you already understand/know that the company is struggling to get gigs which affected their revenue and you refused to make sacrifices just for 2 months.
And you are now looking for another job, and if they have issues you will bolt also.
The economy is not easy for everyone especially entrepreneurs but employees can also make little sacrifices.
N/B: I am not supporting withholding staff wages but......
But what?

If you're supporting nonsense, please own it with your full chest instead of deflecting. Piss in one corner.

Now to why I quoted you.

Can you Mr. Jerry survive on your own for 2months without being paid?

Sacrifices? Did you put yourself in his shoes? How's he going to eat, transport himself to work without being paid?

Just open mouth waaaaaaaa.

I worked as a photographer for a studio in Lagos. I started the job in January, and the studio was newly launched, so we weren't getting much traction. However, during the interview stage, the CEO didn't mention that there were no clients. He spoke as though there were already clients, and it was just a matter of me coming to work. It wasn't until I resumed that I found out this wasn't the case, but he assured us that we shouldn't worry, our salaries wouldn't be affected, and he was hiring a marketer. The marketer joined us in February, but nothing changed. Although we were working, most of the jobs were promotional, and only a few were paid.

Fast-forward to June, after the end of May, we were all expecting our salaries. However, the first week passed, and then the second week, so I wrote an email asking why our salaries were delayed. I also informed management that I was running out of money to cover my transportation and daily expenses, which might later stop me from working. I asked if there was a good reason for the delay, it would be kind of management to inform us. I sent the email on Monday last week.

On Friday, I informed the secretary that I didn't have any money, and I might not be able to come to work if I wasn't paid. She didn't respond. The following day, Saturday, I stayed home and didn't go to work, unaware that some staff members had also decided to stay home. That evening, I received an email stating that I had been terminated with immediate effect and that I was to return all company properties by Tuesday, which was just my ID card. I replied that I wouldn't return anything until my salary was paid. Note that I had worked for two weeks in June.

On Monday, I received my pay, but it was only for May. I went to the studio on Tuesday to return my ID card. The secretary informed me that I might be paid for June's salary by the end of the month. And that's how my unemployment journey started.
I can get you a little Job for now if you are living within Oshodi, Ikeja, Isolo, Mushin, Ejigbo. The job is at International Airport Road, Ajao Estate side, Gross salary is 80k, net salary after pension and tax deduction is 70k, there's feeding at work too, HMO, Leave and leave allowance after a year in service and more.

Minimum of school certificate.

Im fixing the interview on Monday or Tuesday next week.

Re: My Wrongful Termination by travelwaka: 10:34am On Jun 21, 2025
I will respond as an employer.

Things to note
1. Every employee deserves to be paid on time.
2. There are better ways to ask for your pay without begging for it. Because you don't have to beg for services you rendered
3. There is no law that states that you should have customers before employing the services of people.
4. The economy is hard on both employers and employees. Employers need to do better in terms of staff welfare and employees also need to do their best.

But here is where you made a mistake
1. From what you said. Salaries has never been owed before, the best thing you could have done was to show empathy.
2. You sent a mail to state that you won't be coming because you've not been paid.
3. The reason why you got fired was because you were influencing others to go against management. How come all of a sudden it's the day you choose not to come that others decided not to come?
4. What does your contract state? Did you miss work during these period? Did you come late at any point and are there penalties for coming late. Because sometimes staff wants benefits and does not want to give employer benefits. So have you been coming late to the office and are there penalties for that?
5. Also not coming to work violates the code of conduct.
6. Lastly from the title it shows you really need this job, what does your contract state in terms of termination? Always refer back to your contract.

I do not like when staff are not being treated fairly and also employees should also learn to do their job diligently and treat the employers well too.

Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have until we lose it.

Dear poster,
Your tone was rude and unprofessional. As someone that has managed people for many years, here are a few tips
Dont slam the door when leaving any employment- rather than send an email with that tone, you could have requested for a meeting amd spoken with the person in charge first before an email.
Secondly, you shouldn't have stopped coming to work , from all indication, you instigated others not to show up. Always secure approval before you absent yourself from work.
Thirdly, you were asked to return company property, you refused saying that unless you are paid. All you should have done was resign professionally and send their ID back.
The court will not support you because o your unprofessional behaviour and unprofessional exit.

Finally you made it clear that there were no clients. This is a new and struggling business. You had the option of opting out when you discovered this or to exercise patience with your boss knowing the condition if things.
The 20k deduction may be for the ID card that you refused to return.

My advice to you and all young professionals is to be humble, learn how to communicate clearly and professionally. Yoh must also learn that the workplace is not uni where aluta continually Victoria asata abi how una dey phrase am.
Never ever bash your employrt on social media unless where clearly established that you wer harassed, badly treated etc. Even a that, a court is the best option. Nobody will read this writeup and hire you.

Finally change your attitude. From the writeup alone, I can defuce that you are a hot headed young man. To move ahead, yoh must be calming down.

Always think of starting something small while u are still working for somebody because anything can happen.

I've actually returned the ID. Also, before the day I didn't go, I wrote a mail; note that the CEO of the company is not based in Nigeria and the company is run by his secretary, but I didn't get any response. Additionally, before that day, I physically informed the secretary of the company that I had no money, which was indeed the truth. I need to take transportation to work; it's not walking distance.

The best advice ever. His tone in the mail was obviously rude. Some employers will rather pay double of that salary to an employee with good attitude than pay half to his type.

He forgets that he'll need that same company as referee for his future endeavors. Most employers are always eager to know why you left the last job

Nigerian employers will start a business without clients and won't think about planning salaries for employees for 1 year until clients start coming.

It is good that you left or you would have been worse off.

And during interviews, employees make all yeye talks of working as a team, being initiative , bringing fresh ideas bla bla but once employed, they bring nothing to the table. The moment you work like a machine (garbage in garbage out) in any establishment, then you are easily dispensable. What makes you stand out in any organization is your ability to bring in new ideas and innovations outside what the employer never ever thought which the op lacked
