That's not true, some habits are customary. It has nothing to do with your financial status.


Like where I come from we were raised to save the best for the last. It has been like that for generation and my parents also brought us up like that but that doesn't mean me and my tribespeople all came from poor homes.

There're some things I find difficult to do at my age but my friends do them with ease, it all depends on your upbringing.

If I start mentioning some you may not believe me......My friends tease me whenever I do them.

Poverty is a hidden battle most people it afflicts wants to hide.

It's a plaque and when you see someone constantly aggressive and with hidden battles it's most times battling Poverty, affliction or a disease.

You are wrong with this. My parents were not rich but we had food roster when growing up,we rarely repeat same food twice in a week but I love drinking gari.Until like 10-12 years ago that I stopped keeping gari in the office, I drink it before any meal of the day

What you described up their, isn't poverty or rich mindset, "but complete extravagance mindset", many of you full streets. So many teenagers who come from poor home and have no job, but would be boasting as you are doing now, to acquire latest iPhone pro max....."fagidijaye" (trying hard at all cost be like rich guy, wen they are struggling even to feed)

If you eat the meat at the beginning of a meal then what will you eat at the end if the meal?🤷‍♂️

In reality been rich or poor could be another ambiguous assertion, the so call rich could be proud and lousy while the so call poor could be so reserved or they both could swap places in their behaviors. You can see someone as RICH while the person see himself/herself as poor.

Some come from poor families and they have learned not to be influenced by luxury and some rich folks still get wowed by other people's bigger luxuries. its all about Mindset. For me, I view all these things as what they are…vanities. I also believe in destiny so I don't long after what I don't have or get jealous about what others have.

Anybody in Nigeria over 30 years old who eats the meat first was not taught proper African table manners by his parents, you can quote me anywhere on this!

Some people might act like they’re poor, but trust me, they’re not. I once talked to a girl I didn’t even know was rich. I was surprised she hadn’t even brushed her teeth but then I noticed she was using a Samsung phone, and that’s when I realized she was actually wealthy.

While I wouldn't say we were exceptionally wealthy, I firmly identify as middle class. Growing up, we were taught that the first signs of greed often appear in our eating habits. To cultivate patience and keep greed at bay, we learned to savor our meals, with meat as the last item on our plates. Our cousins, who came from less fortunate backgrounds, often rushed to devour their meat, visibly envious of ours.

This mindset has significantly shaped my life. I approach the successes of others with neither anger nor jealousy. Instead, I confidently wait for my turn, ready to seize opportunities as they come and enjoy every moment with a calm and appreciative heart.

Nobody has defined what being poor as a Nigerian actually means in 2025.

Inflation has virtually wiped out the middle class segments of society.

9ja has a high level of poor people going by GDP and living standard indices.

But by training in the family, there are things that are culturally frowned upon.

Growing up, we were not super wealthy but you dare not go and eat in public anyhow.

Certainly not showing gluttonous behaviour. Cultural norms were strong.

On the other hand, hunger was no issue back then.

These days, the poor feel very entitled.

As for the girls, they want to escape poor living conditions at the speed of light. They believe excessive materialism, paid for by a rich guy, is their surest bet. Quite nauseating really.
