The Mistake That Made Me Better

Ladies and gentlemen,

We all make mistakes. It's part of being human. But what if I told you that one of the biggest mistakes I made in my life turned out to be one of my greatest blessings?

Years ago, early in my career, I made a costly mistake. I undervalued my friendship with someone who was literally my best friend after he offered me a job in his start up website .

I believed that I deserved more and got less, While in reality I was terrible at the job and wasn't giving my best.

I felt he should have automatically understand how I was feeling at that time and keep paying me doing nothing .

I didn’t ask questions. I didn’t check in. I didn’t listen deeply. And because of that, I created confusion, frustration, and distance—not just in my workplace, but in my relationships as well. Under two months, I got sacked and my friendship became sour.

Years later, that guy became a big deal working in a fintech top bracket in Uk At first, I was ashamed. I replayed the scenarios over and over in my head, wondering how I could have been so blind. But over time, I did something important—I stopped running from the mistake and started learning from it. I called Out apologized, and I also forgave myself as well. I know my relationship didn't automatically fall in place, we are more like dbanj and don jazzy and I am cool with it. It's been years since we talked.

I realized that communication isn’t just about speaking. It’s about connecting. It’s about making sure the message you intend is the message that’s received. It’s about listening with empathy, clarifying with care, and speaking with intention.

That one mistake? It forced me to grow. Today, I’m a stronger leader. A better partner. A more effective communicator. And that never would have happened if I hadn’t made that mistake. I work as an administrator and do HRM side by side, ut helps me to value employees, see them as people before I see them as employees.

Friends, hear me: your mistakes are not the end of your story. They might just be the beginning of your breakthrough. Mistakes reveal blind spots. They challenge your ego. They demand humility. And if you let them, they will shape you into a wiser, more resilient, more powerful version of yourself.

So the next time you stumble, don’t beat yourself up. Don’t run from it. Embrace it. Ask yourself: What is this here to teach me? Because that’s the secret. Mistakes don’t define you—how you respond to them does.

Let your failures become fuel. Let your regrets become revelations. And let your past mistakes become stepping stones to a brighter, bolder future.

Thank you.

So What is that one mistake, that turned out to push you to be better? Please share, you may just be setting the path for someone else

this is madly inspiring, connecting is different from communicating. you can be communicating without connecting.

Buying cars with the first money I made instead of investing in properties, trying to impress gf and her family members. Deciding to go into marriage and not pursuing my real career after my master's. Trying to please my parents instead of moving out to my own place.

All the above are summaries of mistakes made so far that I would not repeat. No matter the mistake in the past, your biggest mistake today would be living in regrets, the past is past, and I am taking direct steps to remedy the past.

But you are.

Do you know that, given the chance to go back in time without remembering what already happened, you're likely to make the same decisions you've made? cheesy
So, let it go.

my mistake is being too invested in people who don't give a Bleep about me. It's happened several times. Be it in relationship or friendship. You're right I am too emotional. This is something I would have to work on one way or another. I am that type of person that goes out of his way to please a person, I always keep my own needs on the back burner. I feel better knowing people I care about are okay. I seldom think about me first. And this has always hurt me repeatedly. Yet I keep sailing on...it's a terrible habit.

Being too forgiving, being too eager to let backstabbing and betrayal slide. Being too nice...being a good person. Not being able to control my emotions. Being in a haste to trust people, so much that I give them too many opportunities to mess me up.

I feel like shiiit rn.

You need to remember them in order not to commit a simmilar mistake. Trust me, I have learnt a little and would never repeat same mistakes as I am investing in myself heavily now.

Don't feel like shit, life happens. Imagine you are married to your ex gf, have kids together before showing herself, you would be in way more difficult position than you are today. Life usually teaches us lessons one way or the other, learn your lessons and move on with determinations never to repeat past mistakes.

Learn to invest heavily in yourself and do not be tempted to carry other people's problems, you are only responsible for yourself and never be tempted to buy love or respect. Be true to yourself at all time.

Exactly. That's why we need not dwell on regrets.

I mean, it's not even like good things didn't come out of the so-called regrets.

You might even be making a decision you're so sure of now that you might regret later, who knows? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Mistake that made me better

Giving cash in big transactions, receiver denied.

Now I do only transfers for my business dealings, the receipt helps to show proof and help me track my cash flow.

Humans can not be trusted with face value especially when big money is involved.

Agree.

The key for me is each time I realize I am making a mistake, I learn fast and move in the opposite direction as fast as possible without dwelling in regrets.
