Super Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi has taken to social media to celebrate his wife Taiye Jesudun, on their wedding anniversary.

The Nottingham Forest forward shared his gratitude on social media, posting heartwarming images of him and his wife alongside a touching message.

Awoniyi posted a photo of himself and his longtime partner on Instagram, accompanied by a caption that read:

"Proverbs 18:22. Happy Anniversary Wife me. Thank you @mrs_taiyeawoniyi... Ani melo melo, melo melo la fe wi? Melo melo, melo melo la fe so?” translating roughly to a playful expression of love and joy in their native tongue.

What made this moment even more special was the emotional and physical journey Awoniyi has endured in the last year.

While celebrating a personal victory, he was also commemorating his miraculous recovery after a harrowing health scare earlier in the season.

A season of struggle, faith, and recovery

The 2024/2025 Premier League season was one that Awoniyi—and many of his fans—will never forget.

During a match against Leicester City, Awoniyi sustained a life-threatening injury: a ruptured intestine that placed him in a medically induced coma.

For days, the football world feared the worst, as reports of his condition circulated.

However, the 27-year-old Nigeria international defied all odds, battling back from the brink of death with incredible resilience.

His wife Taiye, was a constant source of strength, standing by him through the darkest of hours.

Yes he actually got married rather early because his professional career kicked off pretty early- when he signed for Liverpool in 2015, well owing to the fact that the money entered very early, he was probably advised to have his wife early & settle, so that errrm temptation doesn't arise and catch him off guard.

Yes we talk of football age all the time but I can tell you ,Taiwo marrying at 20 isn't so far off. He is someone I know personally and I can tell you he isn't that far off even if the age is doctored. His Twin sister just got married last year . That's to tell you footballer's life is always different as they tend to have everything earlier than regular jobbers.

Points about african players noted, but Ronaldo is not a good example to use.

Ronaldo has an extreme, even by footballer standards, exercise and diet regimen. That's why he is as active as he is. Most of his contemporaries, (eg Rooney, who is a few months younger) have long since retired.

Ronaldo was influenced partially by Giggs, who was teetotal, also had extreme diet and exercise regimen...including the practice of yoga.(I recall one British Nigerian player swearing to follow Giggs in doing yoga when he was 32. He too retired at 40...and very nearly got his club into the Championship in his final year self. Lost playoffs. Players from the winning side specially came to congratulate him).

It is understandable that we question the age of our footballers due to several known issues but those who passed through the FIFA U17 level in about the past 13 years are real age or not far off due to MRI checks.

However, when talking about getting married at 20 or below, are we ignoring the numerous mechanics, vulcanizers, carpenters, drivers, farmers etc in our communities and extended families who already had one or two wives or kids before age 20. Some of us are totally ignorant about happenings within our system.

Many kids that dropped out of primary school, that your own parents effortlessly paid for, already became family breadwinners by the time you entered university at 17 or 18

A 27 year old in a 7-year marriage. It's possible though because back in the 1950s, 1960s right into the oil boom era of the 1970s through to the mid-1980s, etc, a lot of young men (educated Uni and non-Uni attendees) married in their early 20s to early 30s due to a sustainable personal income. Most of the young men married in their 20s back then.


The reality is that the advanced MRI technology is widely available in Europe and America for detecting the real ages of people, so it isn't difficult to know the real ages of these boys playing professional soccer. Age falsifications in order to get a job or whatever is a pure sign of dishonesty. If you don't have your real (or official birth records), you cannot work in any of my firms. All updated birth and death records must be maintained for everyone in any country for security reasons and for population planning and development. Period.

Taiye Taiwo had a twin sister and not a twin brother.

It's possible he married earlier than expected but won't be surprised if he have some football deductions. It's traditional here.

I tell people that historically, our parents and their parents married early. Western education and influence delayed marriage age unlike before. This is why though I don't support underage marriage, I always question people who say some people are too young to marry. Ask them to talk to their parents and trace the age they got married. Who also defines the age? People are shocked that others get married early because they don't know they're still living in the brainwashed order of life.

They also married, divorced and remarried, so time has shown that even if you wait till 40, you won't be full proof from making mistakes 20s will make. Marriage is an important institution and it's cherished in Africa. This useless fear mongering annoys me about young people.

Taiwo Awoniyi that we know wrote WAEC same year he played U17 in 2013. Taiwo married early, that's it.

If I were most of Nigeria players, the last thing I will be letting anyone know is talking about the years when you were struggling, when you marry, when you have your first child and so on and so forth. Cus most of this things are exposing their age cheat.
