orriyomi33:Yope. She is usually very quiet and not imposing in games which is her weak point but very dangerous when she’s given the space and time to fashion out a chance or shoot. |

How many accurate crosses did Alozie float in yesterday If I’m the coach I’d advice she gets shorter braids like that of Demehin, Echegini, Okoronkwo & Ohale I think she’s sometimes a step behind offensively |

yinkeys:So that happens because of her hair? |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by yinkeys(m): 8:08am On Jul 11, 2025 |
dodobytes:I think she should get shorter braids That long hair is getting in the way of her game to be honest |

naptu2:Saw a video yesterday that highlighted how they removed anything Morocco from their branding and displays. Morocco and Algeria have terrible diplomatic relations going on years now. You'll remember just last year, Algeria seized the kits of a Moroccan club during a CAF champions's league game and refused to allow them wear it because it contained Moroccan displays. CAF had to award 3 points to the Moroccan club after investigation. In 2023, Morocco pulled out of an u-20 competition they had qualified for because Algeria refused to approve landing for a direct flight from Morocco. |

Samueltemi337:Ashleigh was literally our best player on the pitch yesterday. What are you even talking about? Yes, she had a few missteps to start the game but was by for our heat player. |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Samueltemi337(m): 8:47am On Jul 11, 2025 |
lovewins:Yeah compared to other players she was better because most of our players were off yesterday She was good in the first half But in the second half she lost possession too many times There was sometimes when she gets the ball she tried to beat her maker with pace but it didn't really work out And some misplace passes here and there Compare her performance against Tunisia and you will know she wasn't in her best yesterday |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by yinkeys(m): 8:56am On Jul 11, 2025 |
lovewins:Babajide & Okoronkwo have come alive in this tournament too Okoronkwo usually bursts with so much pace & energy when she comes on in the second half Plumptre is our best offensive defender, she delivers threatening passes upfront better than the other crossers I can see why Monday was left out of the team, Babajide is more threatening upfront I think Echegini should be bossing that midfield with the talent she’s got, but she’s not dominant/imposing enough Leave that guy yarning dust, he wants to compare female football standards to that of the male |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 9:27am On Jul 11, 2025 |
yinkeys:I'm trying not to give my overall assessment of the games so it doesn't appear I am being overly critical of the coach. Also, he's winning the games (even though they aren't games we should lose in the first place) so it's only fair to give him time to make the needed adjustment. I also think the players, particularly those who start the first half aren't totally responsible for the bad outings, they are simply victims of the system they are forced to play. Everyone is shiting on Oshoala for instance but she literally couldn't get the ball yesterday so the criticisms she's received are largely unfair (I still think she should start from the bench but that's besides the point). If you remove Toni Payne from the starting lineup and replace her with Okoronkwo for instance you'll see how useless she'll also become. Rinsola didn't take Gift's place though. There are many other players you can take off that team to give Gift a spot. |

Samueltemi337:Please go watch the match again if you can. No way you'll reach the same conclusion. |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by BascoVanVeli(m): 9:52am On Jul 11, 2025 |
lovewins:Okay I was wrong about the SA game. I mixed it up with Ivory Coast 1st leg. Now as for mexico she was definitely playing CB when we conceded. Then why would she need to guard the post with the ball out wide and her player in front of her? That was clearly her mistake |

Samueltemi337:See talk oh ![]() |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 10:27am On Jul 11, 2025 |
BascoVanVeli:I explained what are role was na in the Mexico game. She had a dual role in that game depending on the formation the team switched to. She was either a LWB when we switched to 5 at the back or a DM when we played 4 at the back. That game had both Ohale and Demehin in it and at no point were they substituted. Are you saying one of them didn't play as CB? If yes, what role did said person okay? Or are you saying we had 3 CBs? As DM it's obviously plausible she'll have to drop back sometimes to cover for the CB which is what I believed happened. We overcompensated to the right and left a free man to take a shot. She was in no way responsible for that. |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by BascoVanVeli(m): 11:00am On Jul 11, 2025 |
lovewins:We had Rofiat Imuran start that game and when she went out Glory Ogbonna took her spot. So no Ashleigh was not a LWB. There is no such thing as overcompensating, she should have stayed on her man.
|
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 11:15am On Jul 11, 2025 |
BascoVanVeli:Imuran and Toni played as wing backs. That's literally what happened. Let's even go by your no-factual assumption, if Ashleigh was CB, what role did Demehin play? |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by BankyGee(m): 11:44am On Jul 11, 2025 |
Samueltemi337:Okay. |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by BascoVanVeli(m): 11:45am On Jul 11, 2025 |
lovewins:U said Ashleigh was a wingback though. That's what my comment was about. U were right about Ashleigh starting the game in the midfield but in the 2nd half Ashleigh dropped to CB. JOE came in for Ordega and paired with Ucheibe until she was subbed off injured. U already said we switched to 5 at the back My point remains that Ashleigh lost that spot to the better player in the position. I already made this exact case before the World cup. |

At least Madugu finally moved Ajibade to the wing in the 2nd half but there is no reason she must always play 90 minutes either. |

Am I the only one who find that chant of "All we are saying, give us one goal! " Irritating ![]() |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 2:00pm On Jul 11, 2025 |
joxxy01:Lack of Intelligence to me cos every about our chants are from an era of football that no longer resonates with the present. They can't even compose new songs. |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by BascoVanVeli(m): 2:46pm On Jul 11, 2025 |
daveP:Naw that song is a classic and the sign of a great Nigerian team is scoring during the song ![]() |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 3:34pm On Jul 11, 2025 |
BascoVanVeli:The new gen need their own nitro song. Days of Babayaro, Aghahowa and Utaka don go. 😂 Its true though, scoring during the chant dey ginger even the weakest player that year. We need new gen z chants. |

daveP:Dr Rafiu Ladipo did a lot for Nigerian football, but he also wrecked our culture of singing and chanting in the stands. Football chants are never politically correct. Football is like peaceful war and chants should reflect the feeling of the fans. In the 1980s the whole stadium used to sing along with the supporters club and there were different songs and chants for each situation. The singing in the stands reflected what was happening on the pitch and the feeling of the fans. When time has gone and the team hasn't scored, then you'll hear, 🎵All we are saying, give us our goal🎶 And 85,000 people would be singing the same song. When the other team has a freekick or penalty you'll hear, 🎵Gba danu, gba danu, gba sigbo🎶 or 🎵Over the bar! Over the bar!🎶 And everybody would chant together. If we wanted to threaten or warn the opposition or their fans, they'd sing, 🎵Won fi iku sere, won fi iku sere (insert name of opponent), won fi iku sere🎶 Before the match starts everybody would sing 🎵Baba wa ba wa se, Baba wa ba wa se o! Iwo lo wa da wa laiya, Baba wa ba wa se🎶 85,000 people would sing together. Famous musicians like Sam Akpabot would go and join the supporters club. But Dr Rafiu Ladipo became president of the supporters club and then president of the African Supporters Club organisation and he brought political correctness into everything. He said that 🎵All we are saying, give us our goal🎶 put too much pressure on the players. He removed songs and chants that could be considered violent. The result is that what the supporters club plays does not reflect what's happening on the pitch and most times the fans do not sing with them. Their songs do not excite the fans anymore because they cannot relate to them. No new songs are coming up to reflect what's actually happening on the pitch. We hardly have situations when the whole stadium is singing with the supporters club. |

🎙I for one fail to understand what is going on in the head of this Super Falcons coach Justin Madugu: [1] Rinsola Babajide is our most creative attacking player but he keeps yanking her off at half time [2] In the run-up to the tournament, Francesco Ordega was our most potent attacking threat. She was devastating against Portugal but so far has not seen one minute of action [3] Madugu keeps playing Asisat Oshoala as a target woman. She is the most ill-suited forward we have for that role but only he fails to see it [4] When Botswana decided to park the bus, why did he not push Michelle Alozie and Ashleigh Plumtree forward, effectively making them wingers? We needed width badly in that game [5] For me, this man is clearly out of his depth. If we win the tournament it will be in spite of him, not because of him [6] All he ever does is make three substitutions at half time. Is he aware that this limits his ability to respond to any changes later on in the game like injuries or conceding a goal? [7] I for one would bring Randy Waldrum back tomorrow. His team put your mind at rest [8] So far, only individual talent, favourable officiating decisions and good fortune has won us both games. Such good luck will not continue forever [9] If you want to know how limited this coach is, ask yourselves if his team has any set piece variation routine. Have you seen any creativity on corners or free kicks? [10] We actually have the talent to win the World Cup but need a good coach. Maybe the NFF should go for Hope Powell Just me thinking aloud! - ✍️ Ayo Akinfe |

This is what Kenyan/African female football journalist (JW Sports) had to say about the game: "Have watched enough of Botswana deploying a super disciplined 3-4-2-1 that shifts to 3-5-2 (they don't always use it; they did not use it vs Algeria and will most likely not use it vs Tunisia). Largely used it vs South Africa (in that Tokyo qualifiers) and Banyana couldn't find an opening across 180 minutes. Kenya, of course, couldn't either across 180 minutes, despite arriving on the highest of highs after eliminating Cameroon in the Wafcon 2024 qualifiers. Super Falcons are the first to break it with much more ease, missing a sitter here and there And didn't even need two legs to get the job done. So, Nigeria deserved that win and a bonus for showing everyone else how to tame The Mares when they pull that game plan. A service to humanity, of sorts. 😁" |

Impeccable5248:Eloquently said. I wouldn’t mind Mercy Akide or even Austin Eguavoen coaching the team. With regard to Akide, I know people will say you cannot really compare mens with women’s football; but we could borrow a leaf from Barcelona who hired Guardiola despite not having managed a senior side at the time. His only coaching experience was as coach of the Barcelona academy team. Yet, we all saw how he succeeded with Barca. Heck Akide can’t be worse than Madugu |

naptu2:I'll love sports influencers and journos to raise awareness on these chants debacle. Perhaps a new more modern and melodic supporters club is needed, filled with composing songs that will sync with the players on the pitch. That culture needs rejuvenation. it's time to say goodbye to the trumpet and drums that doesn't trigger a mosquito, and most especially, power hungry fellows that choose ambition and insanity over connections between player and fans I pray the sports podcasters also raise this issue. Something needs to be done. Songs alone can make this generation return to football fanfare alone. But na grandparents wan dey stands for grandkids on the pitch. |

joxxy01:Set camera and interview many of the falcons and tell them to chant one fans song they know, na laugh go end am. It's that bad. Even the stands are empty at this wafcon. Omo!! |
