Lol see you. Even most Europeans still drive manual. They are probably doing better than most of us. Most fast cars are manual. Their customers are probably doing better than most of us. All formula one drivers drive manual. Most of them are doing better than most of us.

I own both Manual and Auto. But I'd say am more at home with Manual.
Yes" ... Power and control is what Manual gives you that Auto doesn't.
You "drive" Manual cars, you "move" Auto cars.
You ain't a driver if you learnt with the Auto (cos you can't drive a manual)...go back and learn to drive.
There are lots of advantages with the Manual.
You are on speed and brake fails, Manual is better in managing the situation.
Gear problems is another advantage of Manual to Autos.
In case of trouble with car on the road (not starting), easier to resolve with Manual than Auto.
Aside the ease of "moving" the car without have to change gears, Autos does not have any advantage over manual.
For those that can change gears and drive with eyes closed, why would one throw away the advantages of Manual for an Auto?

Sir, leave all this story. I didn't just drive manual in a driving school, I drove it for years even for interstate trips. There is not one advantage a non-commercial driver has for manual that he/she cannot get in automatic. It is just superiority complex. Simple!

Poco, I rather think your preference of Auto over manual is more of convenience for you as you don't want the stress of having to change gears in Manual cars.
However, the advantages of Manual over Autos are undebatable and undeniable.
Everyone has their preferences, it is understandable. Those that prefer Auto have their simple reason of convenience. Those that prefer Manual have their many reasons.
Different strokes for different folks.
Let's leave it at that.

Is it on the 15mins drive to your office you "being in control"? Una just wan flex on auto drivers. I was once like that, so I understand.

I love manual die but I don't like cars that they're Manual pedals become stiff when one is on traffic. It's frustrating

Formula 1 cars are not manual and they utilise paddle shifters which has been adopted by other car manufacturers.

I keep hearing this being “in control of the car” bollocks with manual enthusiasts.

An automatic car these days have safety features such as collision sensors, lane departure and automatic braking. They are also faster and fuel efficient. They are becoming more intelligent.

Even law enforcement are adopting automatic vehicles for emergency response driving.


This argument of manual vs Auto is so childish and keeps coming up on Nairaland. Drive whatever you want and leave others who have a different preference or taste.

Driving is about safety, competence, comfort and reliability. Not just “ to dey march am”

Manual is mostly for car enthusiast's, Auto is good for city driving.

If you want to feel in full control of the car, especially when overtaking or while assessing situations, The gear feeling like a 3rd arm and the clutch a 3rd leg. The car basically becoming an extension of you. Make e come be V6 or V8. Go for a manual. That feeling is unmatched.

Those who drive auto can never relate. Most see the car as an object to transport them which is not surprising anyway. And should not be taken seriously in topics like this. How many nigerians care about drifting or testing a car limits. They drive boring big cars and are cool with it.

At least buy a high powered automatic if you want to feel something.

Manual cars don't even fit Lagos roads with all the traffic. Imagine changing gear every 30 seconds until you reach your destination. That's punishment.

Manual cars are for free roads. I do prefer automatic as well. And till date I don't see anything special about manual cars that makes those who drive it feel ontop of the world.

Serious punishment. That is why I said only commercial drivers can give it preference and I will agree. It is something I drove for years, nothing special about it.

Commercial bus drivers (danfo) na suffer head dem be normally. When you enter their bus and see how crazy the interior, dashboard area and gear is, you'd understand.

Yea there's nothing really special about it. I'll pick automatic transmission any day any time.

You correct small! When washing machine first come out I no gbadun am. However, me I don play finish and now na my turn to shoit for my children back make dem go wash their clothes.

But washing machine is winning because children no dey play again and field no dey, so dem turn oyibo and dem no get "house" cloth again. So like automatic, the children no strong

But we wey use hand wash clothes for 23 yrs dash you slap, you go no say God is Real!

Anyway read my post, you would see that I said I have automatic cars. But as a traveler I must nearly "must" change to manual. And that is where I won buy the manual Prado. And after that e go be 80% must Manual for Travel. Make me and those Hiaces dey change gear dey fire engine!
