9jaLaw:
Dear Nairalanders,

I sincerely thank you for the invaluable insights and guidance you continue to provide on this platform.

I recently submitted an application for a UK visitor visa to attend a two-day professional course. I have completed my biometrics and submitted all relevant documentation earlier this week.

However, upon reviewing my application form, I noticed a few inadvertent errors which I would like to clarify:

1. Typographical Error in Child’s Name:
I mistakenly listed the name of my third son (my last child) as the same as that of my second son, although their dates of birth were correctly stated and differ.

2. Errors in Visa Refusal Timeline:
I correctly disclosed in the visa declaration section that I had previously been refused visas to Canada, the UK, and the US between 2018 and 2019. I also included the correct reference numbers for each application. However, I made two date-related errors:
o I stated the date of my Canadian visa refusal as July 2019 instead of the correct date, July 2018.
o I also misstated the date I was selected for a fellowship programme (which necessitated those visa applications) as September 2019 instead of September 2018.

To provide further context, following the initial visa refusal by Canada, I reapplied, was granted a visa, and travelled to Canada and returned to Nigeria. Since then, I have travelled for professional engagements to several countries, majority of these trips sponsored by my employer:
• Europe: Belgium (2019), Italy (2022), Netherlands (2023), and France (2024/I slept overnight from Morocco to catch a connecting flight to Nigeria).
• Africa: Kenya and Morocco (both in 2024) and South Africa (February 2025).
(While returning from Morocco, I had an overnight layover in Paris as my Schengen visa was still valid.)

4 of these trips were for short professional programmes on the same subject matter as the one I intend to attend in the UK, and they were fully sponsored by my employer.

My Questions Are As Follows:
1. Are these errors considered material and likely to adversely affect the outcome of my current visa application?
2. Given that the substantive facts (including the correct visa refusal reference numbers and the nature of the programmes) were accurately disclosed, is it reasonable to hope that the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) would view the date errors as genuine and non-material?
3. Alternatively, would it be advisable for me to notify the UK visa authorities about these errors? If so, what is the appropriate channel or procedure for submitting such a correction or clarification?

I would greatly appreciate your kind advice on this matter, as well as any follow-up questions or suggestions from members of this community that could be helpful.

Thank you once again for your time and support.
I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

Your previous trips to Europe will help your case. Travel history to other African Countries don't usually add much value.

My guess is that case workers don't always double check the facts of your previous refusals - especially if the refusal is not from the UK (in your case, the refusal was from Canada). That is my guess and I am not saying this is a fact.

If you included copies of your children's birth certificates, then the innocent error will be obvious. If you didn't, let's hope the case worker will quickly understand that it was an innocent mistake.

Don't worry. Just hope for the best and pray. Keep us informed. Good luck!

Submitted a complaint letter last month on behalf of my mum explained all the details and decision has been overturned. She has been asked to submit her passport. Thank you for your advice.

giselle237:
Marriage is a substantial tie. You need to also be submitting more than a consent letter. Prove that the marriage is genuine and subsisting and for this cause she must return to her marriage.
Did you submit a bank statement for her?? They said they are unaware of her circumstances
Send a PAP. No need to get more refusals.

When booking your flight, you can pay in Naira on Nigerian platforms like Travelstart or Wakanow. Alternatively, you can use your card, but be aware that most banks like GTBank for example limits transactions in USD to $4,000 per quarter.

Make sure to bring essential documents, such as proof of admission and proof of funds, as you may be asked for these at the point of entry.

Also, you don't need to take any vaccinations; you're good to go!
Thank you and God bless you 🙏

In that case, you have to start counting 28 days all over again. Starting from the day after you credited your account

Hi everyone, please i need your help regarding this question. I am about to invite my mum to the Uk to come and visit me but I don’t know how to package this application because
1) my mum was self employed but because of health conditions. She stopped working years ago and now depend on her children for her monthly up keep. I often send money to her monthly as well.

So should I write retired or unemployed?
If I write that she is unemployed, will it affect the outcome of her application?

Also, she owns a shop but it’s not CAC registered, so should I include pictures of the shop in her application as home ties.

Send an email to complaints@homeoffice.gov.uk addressing all reasons for rejection interms of why you don’t think HO has enough reasons to deny or some documents were not considered.

Second way is to apply via the link below https://www.gov.uk/complain-uk-visas-immigration

If you are doing any of ththe above on behalf of someone you’ll need a letter of authorization from that person.

She doesn’t have any pension, she depends on myself and siblings for her upkeep. Though I send her money monthly.

My worry is that the ECO might refuse her because of her unemployment status since she doesn’t have any job to bring her back home.

Hi everyone, mother-in-law got refused visit visa to visit us in the UK. It is a year now and I want to apply for her again.
In her previous application we picked retired but now I want to pick self employed. Will this have a negative effect on her application.

I am just anxious and haven’t been able to focus. I live in Port Harcourt and also did my biometric in Port Harcourt.

I know a lot of UK visas get refused, but there are some basic rules you need to abide by. Give me a shout and maybe I can advise you. I've been involved in UK immigration for some time and know a lot of tricks to get round the crazy rules.

1st August is still far. Why did you pick the courier option when you also live in same city?

Anyways, you should get the passport before end of July.

Looks like an approval.

Thanks.
VFS only offers premium service in Port Harcourt, I had no option than to go for it cos I didn’t have the time to travel to Abj or Lagos.

I would have preferred to pick my passport but they said I must opt for courier as the charge is already included in the premium charge.

I pray I get approved. I will love to move from London to Paris, then Belgium to some other Schengen countries before returning to London then to Lagos.

Hello everyone, please I have a worry.

Have completed biometrics and submitted passport to VFS, then later realised I did not add a scan of all the pages of my passport as it was a new one and all pages are blank, only added the data page to my self uploaded documents.

Please should I be worried about this? Any responses will help, thanks
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Africankel(m): 4:46am On Jul 21, 2025
You are not required to scan and upload all the pages of your passport, except those with visas and stamp.
