How I Rejected N120m House Gift – Peter Obi by Islie(op): 2:19pm On Jul 21, 2025
By Seun Adeuyi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has revealed how he turned down an offer of a multimillion-naira house, requesting that the funds be used for the public good.

In a statement on Sunday marking his 64th birthday, Obi said he turned down the N120 million house gift during his 50th birthday when he was governor of Anambra state.

While lamenting the scale of suffering and deprivation confronting Nigerians, he called for the redirection of resources to support the country’s health and educational institutions.

Obi noted that while he does not personally celebrate birthdays, he prefers that resources meant for him be redirected to projects that benefit the public.

I recall vividly when I turned 50 during my time as governor. One institution offered to build me a house in the village. When I asked for the cost, they said ₦120 million. I requested that the funds be used instead to build classrooms in three institutions across Agulu, Ekwulobia and Abatete. They obliged—and the impact was far-reaching.

“Another group had budgeted ₦20 million for a lavish party. I graciously asked them to consider using the funds to purchase desktop computers for schools. Their eventual donation of 200 desktops was distributed to schools across the state, enhancing learning for many students,” the statement said

He added, “In a similar spirit of redirection, another organisation—whose intention had originally been to celebrate me—ended up donating buses, which we distributed to institutions in need, including one that went to the legendary Old Rangers Association.”

He stressed the need to strive for a more just, compassionate, and equitable society.

“I especially prayed for our beloved country, Nigeria, that God may touch the hearts of our leaders, and awaken in them the realisation that public funds are meant for the public good. May we all find strength and grace to keep striving for a more just, compassionate, and equitable society,” he said.

Tinubu was the first governor in Nigeria to sign a law for huge benefits/pension to be payed to exgovernors. Tinubu signed it in 2007, weeks before he completed his two-term tenure.

Peter obi has receipts for all the good deeds he has been doing as a normal human being to uplift and advance the betterment of all citizens under his leadership 🤗

You can never find another politician in Nigeria with such a heart as obi. Even if he fails in some places, his zeal to see others succeed will more than make up for his shortcomings no matter what angle you view of from.

Only a hateful person can ever not like him as a human being talk more of as a political leader in this current Nigerian dispensation cool

I'm obidient TO THE CORE kiss

Obi and lamentations are inseparable.

Instead of focusing on planning of how he would rescue us from APC for a new Nigeria, he chooses to focus on telling us super storytongue.

This man and the ease at which he lies.

I remember his one wrist watch saga.

The claim, voiced while tapping at his wristwatch during a question and answer session that followed his speech proper, is: “This is the only watch I have; I have owned it for seventeen years.”

Yet they caught you with NGN 250 million in Lagos.

You left your indigenes to rot in Anambra after ruling them for 8 years.

You left them and ran to Lagos.

Yeye.

Peter Obi is a rare breed of political element in Nigeria.
A rare breed that tells believable lies to his ethnoreligious followers.

[quote author=NLCreator post=126854133]Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has defended the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for members of the national assembly.

There have been reports that the leadership of the 10th national assembly has bought SUVs for all lawmakers.

Each SUV is said to be valued at N160 million.

The LP had asked members of the party in the national assembly to kick against “wastage”.

While responding to questions during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra said the SUVs are not personal cars of the lawmakers, noting that they are for official use.

“Let me start with the issue of Labour Party members in the house. I have actually discussed this issue with them,” Obi said.

“Surprisingly, I can tell you I heard that these vehicles are official cars. They have to use it. It is meant for office.

“So it is not as if it is their vehicle. They said it is official cars and you are meant to use it while you are in the senate.”

Obi also hinted at contesting for the country’s number one position in 2027, adding that Nigeria deserves dedicated and visionary leaders who will lead the country towards a brighter future.

God bless you abundantly my man, my mentor.

God will not allow Nigerians make the second mistake of allowing power-hungry political jobbers whose only job and investments are playing politics in Lagos to rig you out again.

Nigeria will enter the pathway to becoming truly a prosperous nation the very day Peter Obi and other honest Nigerians like him are supported to become President of this country.

Re: How I Rejected N120m House Gift – Peter Obi by casualobserver:
after using govt money to buy house in your company/brother's name while governor. abeg nobody is falling for this pretentious nonsense. People like him represent the worst type of humans. At least Wike with full chest said yes he bought the rolls royce himself, as oppossed to some other "i dont like money messiah" who collected rolls royce from a contractor who didnt execute the contract. He doesnt pretend to be what he is not. When they asked him if he is corrupt, he didnt insult our intelligence by saying he isnt, he said everybody needs money and nobody has convicted him.

this man collected local government council funds with no accountability for 7years and 9 months and now he is trying to play saint because he "rejected" a house? Local government FAAC allocation is 75% of what the state gets, if a state gets N10b, the LG will get N7.5B. This is why Governors dont want LG autonomy. Nobody beams their torch on LG funds so now imagine one man collecting 75% of a state's FAAC allocation for 7yrs 9 months without any accountability...and you think he cares about a house? you can steal up to $100m in one term as a governor just by diverting security vote and LG allocation and nobody will point a finger at you...its the easiest money to steal! have you ever heard anybody be it governor, or Lg chairman or councillor charged talk less convicted for stealing LG funds?...exactly! Nobody focusses on LG funds, its the easiest money to steal and it is almost as much as the state's FAAC! I am sure you all heard about the N250m cash every month.
