Ashleigh unfortunately hasn’t registered an assist
Ajibade’s output is more than Ashleigh’s
No disrespect to Ashleigh though
Objective analysis no bias
They usually give the more offensive player that records goals or assists
Remember Ekong scored 3 important goals for Nigeria that’s why he got it last year
Chebbak is also a contender
Football is always at worse case when player's tangibility is measured on goals and assists. No wonder the progress of football is stunted in Nigeria in particular and Africa in general. Most of players from the African continent always dwell on " I scored". Anybody who knows football must I agree Ashleigh brought unequal technicality to Super Falcons. She is one of the few players on S. Falcons worthy of watching.

The only thing South Africa has over Nigeria is their National Anthem. grin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lDZP-ZbtJ8

Their Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika anthem is easily top 5 in the world and even me wey no be S.African dey feel am wella.

Arise O' Compatriots wasn't bad too. It was a very good call to war and battle anthem but PBAT go get brain touch change am.

Now nothing to ginger and boost our gals morale tomorrow.
The SA anthem is simply mind-blowing, downloaded the lyrics some months ago. cheesy

As for the bolded, changing our anthem was very needless in my opinion. Even worse, going by our recent games, NONE of our girls could recite a line of the new anthem. It's a shame.

If we use this line up, we would close them down in midfield big time giving Echiejini freedom to join the attack all the time. Although the coach may retain Ijamulusi due to the fact that she covers lots of distance easily on the pitch and moves the ball faster especially on the wings.

Asisat don retire from the Super Falcons. This AFCON is her last appearance for the team. She listened to her body and read the room so I applaud her decision and wish her well in her future endeavours.

Go well our GOAT of African football.

https://www.thisdaylive.com/2025/07/21/oshoala-retires-from-super-falcons-at-30/

Six-time African Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, 30, has called time on her illustrious career with the Super Falcons.

The former Barcelona Femeni forward announced her retirement from international duties for Nigeria on Facebook on Monday, stressing that it was a necessary step to pave the way for emerging talents to shine on the global stage.

“At 30, with six African Women’s Best Player awards, I will bow out to start a new chapter after WAFCON 2024/25,” she wrote on Facebook.

She continued: “Thank you for your unwavering support. I’m forever grateful for the love and sacrifices shared with me through this journey.”

Oshoala’s illustrious career is adorned with a record six CAF Women’s Player of the Year titles (2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023), making her the most decorated player in the history of African women’s football.

Her relentless drive, goal-scoring prowess, and global impact have made her a role model for countless young athletes across the continent.

Wow. I had been thinking she would retire from the Super Falcons, maybe, next year. I thank her for her valuable contributions to our national teams. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors, and I wouldn’t mind if she gets a coaching license and becomes part of the coaching crew of any of our national teams.
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by emeka123123: 6:02am On Jul 22, 2025
Asisat Oshoala’s retirement post appears to be a direct consequence of her reaction during the second game, where she stormed off the field after being substituted. This speaks volumes, especially considering Coach Justin Madugu’s clear stance at the recent press conference—he emphasized his intention not to build the team around any one superstar.

There had already been noticeable tension regarding Oshoala’s inclusion in the starting lineup even before the tournament began, and that tension only intensified after two underwhelming performances. Madugu, to his credit, chose not to entertain the kind of behind-the-scenes drama we saw in the past involving Onome Ebi, Rita Chikwelu, Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie, and Amaju Pinnick. I applaud him for standing firm in his decisions—those moves likely helped prevent an early exit.

Also worthy of note is that Oshoala seems to have come to terms with the fact that she’s no longer at her peak, either for club or country. With Amaju Pinnick no longer in the picture to force certain selections, the team is clearly entering a new, merit-based era. I wish Asisat all the best in her future endeavors.
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by naptu2: 6:08am On Jul 22, 2025
Asisat has been thinking of retiring before this tournament.

She made an Instagram story sometime ago when something happened. She said that the stress was making her consider whether she should do what was on her mind immediately. She indicated that she was thinking of retiring and she was wondering whether she should just do it immediately.

In fact, at that time I got the impression that she was thinking of retiring from football completely, not just the national team.

Asisat's retirement news is FAKE NEWS.

I didn't even know the story was in circulation till I saw Colin Udoh's video yesterday debunking it late yesterday.

I didn't see the news to post it here since the story of her alleged retirement hadn't made it here. So surprised to see it this morning.

Modified:

Here's the link to Colin's twitter post. He spoke to Oshoala directly. It also didn't make sense to him that a professional like Oshoala will release such disturbing news that has the potential to unsettle the dressing room a day to a crucial semifinal game. Thankfully it was false.

I've also personally seen a snippet video of Oshoala reacting to this too.

I just read the story from the source and this is journalistic incompetence. I am not a journalist and I know the vast majority of Facebook pages posturing as official pages of these players are fake. I've had to warn many of us here that stories from Facebook particularly without a credible source are most likely fake.

How does a reputable media platform like This day quote a "Facebook post" without even cross-checking her other social media platform to start or reaching out directly to the player?

Just yesterday, I posted what I felt appeared to be an apparent retirement post by Onome Ebi, and like naptu pointed out, I had earlier seen her Twitter post (which I know to be personally controlled by her) but didn't think it was good enough to make conclusions. It wasn't until I saw her Instagram post which was more exhaustive that I decided to post about it and even then, I wasn't definitive with my conclusions since se didn't expressly use the word. How a journalist could be so incompetent is concerning.

There was also a similar issue with Ashleigh Plumptre just before the tournament began. She had to issue a disclaimer and point out that those Facebook and Instagram pages do not belong to her.
